should i buy HD200 and return HD300?

i don't like the HD300 so far at all. Here are some reasons.

1) when changing to the guide the audio drops out (so you loose what people say during the program)
2) Pixelation problems badly
3) when going to guide the *current* program's box is only 5 inches big.

the HD200 had

1) kept audio when searching guide
2) no pixelation problems
3) the *current* program when you were in guide was half of the upper screen.

on the other hand.. the Sony HD300 user interface is much better than the HD200's.

Anybody have any feedback about my options? I don't wanna return a newer better model :(

I personally like the current program box to be smaller as to have more room to list more channels per screen on the guide part. I guess it depends on how big your screen is.

The menu audio drop thing is a little annoying - but I can live with it as I don't use the guide that terribly much.

thanks for your feedback, I have a 55" 16:9 display.

Yeah i can see what your saying about it listing more channels.

I bought a HD300 to replace my HD200. I returned it after a week and kept my HD200. IMHO the HD300 went backwards from the HD200.

The 300 has two sizes of channel guides, 480 and 1080, so on a 720, it looks small (I have the same problem). I don't have the other problems (or don't care (audio, etc.).

I answered your other thread, but if you really want a 200, you could try eBay. Being 'obsolete' equipment, I doubt you could find one 'officially' unless someone has real old stock.

what do you mean "the 300 has 2 sizes of channel guides, 480 1080?

I never seen that option, only option close to the subject and what you said is the "banner style" it has small, medium, and large. But that is not the *picture* while looking through the guide.

Tell me more about that option please.

One thing i like about the HD300 is how fast it scrolls to the next program, much faster than the HD200.

I got a good question when it comes to downgrading to the HD200,
Does the HD300's video quality better than the HD200?

Thanks

When the box is outputting 480i/480p it uses a guide that is 480 lines - therefore the guide fills the whole screen.

When the box is outputting 1080i it uses a guide that is 1080 lines (although looks just like the 480 line version) thus filling the whole screen.

However, there is no 720 line resolution guide. If you set the box to output 720p the guide is actually a smaller windowboxed version - as it displays the 480 line resolution guide leaving the rest of the screen area uncovered. It's a little annoying as the writing is much smaller than in the full screen resolutions.

I have never seen the HD200 but the impression I got previously was that some actually prefered the output of the HD200.

weird, my TV's inputs are Component Video and the HD300 is set to Comp-Video 1080i.

I never even touched the 480i/p modes (if this is right)

I would hate the HD300 to have a better video processor than the HD200. I will start a thread on it. I want to have the best image possible.

I guess the HD200 and HD300's image is gonna be the same.

If you set the component video to 1080i you are getting the 1080 line menu - which looks real good. Actually the 480 line guide looks real good too (they look almost identical). It is when you use 720p resolution that you get a small guide because of no 720 line version of the guide. I have my box set to native so that SD broadcasts are sent as 480i, 720p sent as 720p, 1080i sent as 1080i (no scaling in the box).

There will be additional HD-200s available once the HD-TIVO rolls out. I'd be glad to sell mine here or on e-bay.
