Is this a normal thing? I've had my Ceton since August 2010 and this is the first time I've had to do this. I actually thought it was my cable signal as I've been battling Comcast to get my backyard outlet changed for almost 3 years now. I get at least 2-3 failed recordings per week via "no signal", sometimes way more, but never had a perfect week dating back to the first week I had the Ceton. I would point the finger at the Ceton, but have seen the Signal Level regularly drop below -2 and Signal to Noise Level in the lower 20s when acting up.
I suggest you read The Green Button Ceton Channel Map Thread. http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=4909
It documents the changes that Comcast made upgrading its Cisco software in Houston and how it is impacting Ceton users. I upgraded to the latest firmware and hardware but I still had to reset the Channel Map when Comcast made wholesale changes on Monday night. They moved a lot of channels around to clear more bandwidth for their internet services.
As far as your low signal levels I suggest you download the “All Ceton Signals” program from the Windows Experts Community. http://experts.windows.com/frms/windows_entertainment_and_connected_home/f/115/p/103442/555788.aspx#555788
It is a good tool to monitor the signal levels that Comcast is providing to you.
Since you will be measuring the signals at your HTPC you need to calculate the losses and gains from any splitters or amplifiers you have in your premises wiring to see exactly what the signal levels are where the Comcast drop enters your house. You will note in the first thread that my signal levels had “gone to pot” and I was able to get Comcast to rebalance the amplifiers on their cable between the fiber interface and my house and now my signal levels are excellent.
You should also check all of the connectors and cables in your premiss wiring, Poor connectors or inferior cable can significantly implact your signal quality.
