Now what do I do?
I have D*, but have elected to use comcast for HDTV because I want the DVR. I plan on switching to D* when the price of TIVO comes down.
Until the comcast installer comes, how do I hook up an OTA? What input does it go into? How do I tune in the stations?
Some of you have posted the signal strength you receive. Is that an option on the TV? On the antenna?
How will I know if the OTA station is HDTV?
Sorry for all the stupid questions....just beginning to learn.
Sorry, don't know your particular model TV but unless you have a built in HD tuner you will need a separate digital tuner for OTA.
Normally the digital tuner will measure the signal strength for particular stations. You can go to http://www.titantv.com/
and go to the TV Listings/Digital Broadcast Guide (antenna) to see the stations broadcasting in digital in the Atlanta area. This will show you the standard digital channel number for each station.
Some stations multicast which sucks bandwidth from HD broadcasts. Any tuner will have a search function for channel numbers or you can try direct input based on the numbers provided on titantv, which also lists HD broadcasts. Note that most digital stations do not broadcast HD except for most primetime scripted (non news or reality) broadcasts and of course certain sporting events. Go read the programming forum sticky notes for info on which networks broadcast which sporting events and other programming info that will get you started.
You can also check out the Yahoo Groups ahdtv forum for much local information.
