IT'S BACK!!! Yay!!! On 16.2 now!!!

...wait.....no....um, make that 16.3.....errr....ummm?????.....ok now it's back on 16.2 but with no sound.....wellllll........um.....ok who the heck knows what's going on.....I feel like there's one of those head-bobbing wooden birds on a spindle as station manager for most of our LP's.

As of now:
16.1 MexicAnal (with no audio)
16.2 Reverts back to 16.1
16.3 RTV

AND LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
ARE YOU READY FOR ATLANTA'S HIGHEST RATED
AND MOST ENTERTAINING/ENLIGHTENING TV CHANNEL
TO COME BACK TO THE A-T-L?

Black By Popular Demand:
CHANNEL 16.4 (blank)

I certainly hope they paln on increasing there power?
Does anyone have a suggestion for improving this weak station?

Buford is right at the edge of the WYGA coverage footprint. The station is an Atlanta low powered broadcaster, with any possible service to Buford as an afterthought.

Thanks for the info

I know that the WYGA transmitter is located in SE.Atlanta, but didn't know the power was that weak. I think RTV has made a mistake in using WYGA to rebroadcast in the Atlanta Market as there are other options like WANN,WTBS and maybe WXIA 11.2?

Does anyone know what happened to TCN on WTBS ch.26.1?

I totally agree....wonder what could be the realistic market penetration for this anemic signal ?

WANN-32 and WTBS-26 are also low powered stations (LPTV). Full powered WPCH-17 (the former WTBS) would be a good candidate for several sub-channels. WXIA is probably waiting to see what NBC Universal can provided their affiliates beyond Universal Sports.

The audience reach of WYGA within the I-285 circle is probably not that bad. Many metro homes have cut the cable/sat, or never had those services. People in offices watch ota signals.

I use my Tivo HD for over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts here in Atlanta. I'm trying to pull in WKTB, and today I realized that the Tivo is trying to get it on the wrong RF channel. It's on RF channel 47, but the Tivo is trying to tune it up on RF channel 38.

Here is what RabbitEars.info says about it:

Display Physical Video Audio Call Sign Network/Programming Nickname
47-1 47.1 480i DD2.0 KTN47-1 Telemundo
47-2 47.2 480i DD2.0 KTN47-2 KBS World
47-3 47.3 480i DD2.0 KTN47-3 Arirang
47-4 47.4 480i DD2.0 KTN47-4 Korean "MC-TV"

The second column shows the physical channel, 47 in this case. Here's what the FCC database says:

http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/tvq?facid=35418
Transmit Channel: 38 614 - 620 MHz Construction Permit
Transmit Channel: 47 668 - 674 MHz Special Temporary Authority
Transmit Channel: 47 668 - 674 MHz Licensed

Can someone more knowledgable than me take a look at this and tell me what RF channel they are transmitting on? If Tivo needs to correct their database I can have them do that. I filed a ticket with them and they confirmed today that they think it's on 38, and they will research that further if I ask them to.

- Chris

P.S. I think several posts in this thread have disappeared. The last one before me is from July 3rd, and I KNOW there were others in here because I posted one of them. I guess AVSforum had a glitch? I found no mention of anything in the general threads.

38 is an analog permit. 47 is digital, and the station should be on 47.

Excellent, thank you Trip!

Can you tell when they moved from analog on 38 to digital on 47? Was there any overlap or did they cut straight over? Just fleshing out the story for my response to Tivo.

And while I'm here ... I recently noticed that a LOT of content (if not most of it) on WPCH is now in full-screen HD, not just the Braves games as I state in the FAQ. Did anyone notice when that happened? I assume it was part of the Meredith transition for them.
The other night while flipping through channels I noticed "We Are Marshall" was in 16:9 on WPCH. That was a pleasant surprise! But after it finished "Vertical Limit" began, and it was in 4:3, much to my disappointment. Baby steps, I guess...

According to this filing, they used the channel 38 transmitter to build 47, meaning the analog and digital could not have been on the air at the same time.

That document was filed in December 2008, so the conversion probably happened in the late November-early December time frame.

Forgive me as I asked this before a while back but got no response. (it was coupled with another unrelated question) Hope you all don't mind me asking again:

What ANALOG stations are left in Georgia/Metro Atlanta & surrounding areas?
-What content is shown?
-Which stations can you pick up?

I live in Cliftondale (southwest Atlanta between Fairburn & Douglasville) and here's what I have on my list & my reception using a pair of rabbit ears mounted outdoors & a 22db amp+preamp:

4-WUVM-LP (Azteca America)
*-Always audible, sometimes in color, usually b&w static
23-W23DN (Home Shopping Network)
*-Never a good or color pic, infrequently plain audio

Am I imagining things or not? It seems as though I get a faint hint of audio and some visuals from the following:
26-WTBS-LP (?)
28-WDWW-LP (out of Cleveland?!?!)
33-WCAG (out of LaGrange)
45-???
49-WXID-LP (Out of Sweat Mountain-supposed to be silent/off air but it seems I get something every now & then)

I've an external antenna, connected directly to the TV. It's working great so far, but I have suddenly lost audio in two channels - WSB (2-1) and PBS (30-1).

I used the signal meter in the TV and I get about 80% for these channels, which is much more than other channels. So it's not due to poor reception. More over, I have a HTPC connected to the same antenna and that gets the audio. It's a problem only with my TV. But what's so special about these channels? Does any one else have the same issue?
Have you accidentally pressed the SAP button on your remote? If a station has a SAP subcarrier that is not being modulated at the moment you will get silence on that channel.

Cox must be putting most of their financial resources into their broadcast/cable properties these days, as they refuse to deliver the AJC paper outside of metro Atlanta anymore. Despite the fact that it sold very well in the Greenville-Spartanburg area. But they will not allow a regional courier to set up a relay network anymore. Miss the Sunday paper and the Fry's supplement in the Friday paper. And Brandsmart add on Sunday. Don't understand why they won't cooperate with regional couriers. Still get the Charlotte Observer, but do miss the AJC.

I haven't been able to receive Ch 32 in Acworth for the last couple of days. Is it down?
The static image on 11.2 has changed from the move of the weather channel to a blue background with their logo. Could we be getting a new channel?
They need to re-establish the regional courier relay network to get the AJC paper delivered again to Commerce, Ga, Lavonia, and up to Greenville-Spartanburg, SC. There is a demand. Especially on Sunday. It always sold very well. Ledford Dist would like to deliver in GVL SC but mgmt in Ga will no longer set up relay system.

Got this email reply from WXIA today

"We will be restoring the Weather Radar to 36.3 in about two weeks. Bounce Network launched today will remain on 36.2"
It seems insane to me that they've had HOW LONG now to prepare for this change-over and not only did they misinform the public as to what channel Bounce TV would be on by initially stating that it would be on 36.3, but now force the public to wait another 2 weeks before re-instating the weather on that channel.

I'd like to believe that there are many complicated reasons that I don't understand as to why this is the case but I'm thinking more and more that they (or ANY of the OTA broadcasters in this area) just don't give a rat's a$$.

I'd also venture to say that more people tune into the weather radar than will Bounce TV aside from the fact that many people, myself included, DEPEND and RELY on it for critical information....something that will probably NEVER be said about Bounce.

Just read their blurb on "Atlanta's OFFICIAL" (whatever that means :) program guide.

I'm not familiar with the network...but it has to beat infomercials/Spanish/religious channels!

Your thoughts?

Uh huh. My guess is that they only had hardware to support two services on 36 (e.g. video encoders) and so when Bounce launched they had to steal the weather chain. Perhaps the hardware vendor is slow in delivering, or they ordered too late to make the 26-Sep launch, who knows.

And they probably also found (or feared) problems if numbering the services non-sequentially (36.1, 36.3). Not saying that's a valid concern, just my conjecture.

That said, it's just about two weeks later now, so let's hope for that radar returning this week It's been clear skies for over a week, but we've got rain in the forecasts again so a lot more people are going to be tuning into that radar ...

The weather is up on 36.3. Whoopee!
