Hehe... I was closer to dying doing landscaping this weekend than being up in the attic.

I haven't got much with my Samsung 360. It appears to search for the signal but never can lock on. Some of the antenna elements got slightly bent during installation. Aside from being positioned wrong, could that be causing issues?

I don't know about the elements. Some of mine are positioned awkwardly due to the size of the CM3020 also. I do know that attic mounts are tricky - any metal in the attic can also act like part of the antenna. You might want to try tilting the antenna if possible.

ps - Softball and mowing the grass on a Saturday afternoon can kill you also.

Dave, I have noticed that KCEN reception has been kind of spotty lately, so it may not necessarily be entirely something in your setup. For instance, the Houston stations have been coming in pretty solid at night lately, sometimes as in this evening before the sun sets even. If they are coming in that well, it should stand to reason KCEN would come in better. Maybe what's good for UHF isn't so good for VHF, I don't know.

I think I may aim to Houston just to see if I can get anything. I'm going to play around with the antenna more before I decide to return it.

Or if you want to see how an antenna is supposed to be done

I really wish the signal meter was better on the Samsung 360. I can get about 45 for KCEN, but that's also what I get for KBTX. Sometimes it goes higher up to 77 and then down to 0. I'm guessing that if I can get it to lock in then I'll have better luck in the future.

I'd love to build a tower in my backyard, but my wife has veto power on that. If you're married and have those towers, you have a forgiving wife.

Nah, Im a youngin still but labmansid (whos tower owns mine) is married (I think)
Yeah, I was pretty sure you weren't married. About the only way I could put up a tower is if my wife could put vines and flowers up it, hehe.

Yeah, that signal meter sucks big time, not useable at all. Adding an individual channel is a pain, too.

WHOOP!!!!!!!!!

I fiddled with my antenna a bit more thinking the weather would help out. Well, I figured out that my antenna was still positioned about 10-15 degrees off. Once I repositioned it, I was able to get 6 DT stations. I could pickup KXXV (ABC) and KWTX (CBS), but couldn't get KCEN (NBC). KXXV kind of came in, but not very well. KWTX came in great, but I don't need another CBS.

Well, I got pissed and turned this behemoth of an antenna at Houston (140 degrees). On my first scan I picked up 12, yes TWELVE, DT channels. They are all coming in great. Maybe it's the weather, but I'm one happy Aggie!

Channels:
KPRC-HD (NBC) 2-1
KPRC-SD (NBC) 2-2
KPRC-SD (NBC) 2-3
KBTX-DT (CBS) 3-1
KHOU-DT (CBS) 11-1
KTRK-HD (ABC) 13-1
KTRK-SD1 (ABC) 13-2
KTRK-SD2 (ABC) 13-3
KETH-D1 (TBN) 14-1
KAMU-DT (PBS) 15-1
KAMU-DT2 (PBS) 15-2
KTXH-DT (UPN) 19-1
KRIV-DT (FOX) 26-1
KNCT-DT () 46-1
KTMD-DT () 47-1
KAZH-DT () 57-1
KFTH-DT () 67-1
KFTH-DT2 () 67-2

A few others, but that's about it. Now I'm going to watch Leno in HD for the first time. Whoop!
yeah its the weather.... im getting all kinds of stations tonight.
Well, hopefully I can at least get a few when the weather clears up. That or hope for stormy weather until D* adds HD locals.
Congrats on getting it working, Dave!! Leno is one of the best looking HD programs on. Like I said earlier the weather lately has been pretty conducive to the Houston stations. I think Summer is a good time of year for some help from tropo, also. Welcome to the Houston DT club!

Dave - If you actually pull this off and get these clearly in decent weather with that attic antenna - You're going to have a visitor to see exactly how you did it... (I'll bring a six pack as payment for the sharing of your expertise.)
LOL

I checked this morning and FOX and ABC were having problems. NBC and CBS were still working pretty well. Once all this stuff clears up, I'll probably be back to KBTX and KAMU.

I did enjoy watching Leno though. I just have to pray for rain during important events.
I can picture it now. Headlines in the B/CS Eagle:

"Aggie does ritual pagan rain dance at approximately 10:20 every weeknight in his front yard so he can watch Leno in HD!"
Hehe... Anything for HD!

Actually, I don't even watch Leno, but I had to see something in HD to justify the antenna to my wife. I just want to have all the networks in case there's something I want to watch.
So what's the latest on your new toy, Dave?
Sid
I can still get NBC and CBS in really good. ABC and FOX are kind of sketchy. We'll see how things go when there's no rain in the area.
Yeah, those two seem to be the most troublesome of the Houston market. Wouldn't you know, the two networks we really need to pick up from out of "our" market, too!!

Yep ABC and FOX are always troublesome...... fox isnt that big of a deal because theres almost nothing on there I care about but abc has alot of sports and generally the best movies (for the big 4 networks atleast)

Cox's new HD lineup made the front page of The Eagle today, but of course, they didn't mention the flurry of local activity on www.avsforum.com.
Is Cox really offering 8 HD channels for $9.95? I thought some of those were extra or premium channels.

In other news, the rain dance is still working.
They cant offer HBO and other movie packages w/o paying for regular HBO.... part of the agreement.
I figured as much. Must be sloppy Eagle writing.
Ok finally got a few pictures up of the redone theater.... go to my theater website and in the gallery to look.... Many more screen captures to come of games, hdtv and dvd sources.

I actually have some time to take pictures now that summer I is over and Im not taking anything summer II (need money to make up for all my "purchases")
