Did any of you watch Law and Order last night? Did you get that purpleish band (filter, for lack of a better word) across the top of the screen? Due to my TV I have 0% overscan so I was always worried about getting weird stuff on the top or bottom of the picture and last night was the first time it has really happened to me.

Nope, but I caught CSI:NY last night. Came through almost perfect, with just a few pops here and there. Looked beautiful and the DD5.1 was flawless.

CSI:LV on tonight, hope it's the same.

Any of you guys catch lost last night? I downloaded the HDTV rip this morning and was pretty impressed as it was pretty good, I heard the video and sound were really nice, the rip is nice but nowhere near real HD and there was no way I was going to watch this in SD.... its really sad when a HDTV (compressed) rip is better than live SD.

I hope I can find it on the Tivo, otherwise I guess it will just be "lost".

Plus a CSR told one of my friends who just got D* that locals would be up by the end of the month.

That specifically is one of the reasons I've moved back to B/CS - to hopefully guarantee that my distant feeds grandfather in.

If that happens, will you become a Cox salesman??

Looks like locals on D* will not be coming tomorrow (on indefinite hold). Then again, these were never officially announced either. I guess this is why D* doesn't announce stuff until it actually happens...

Correct me if Im wrong but wasnt fox "giving" out the splicers? I may need to shoot off a PM to foxeng on the HDTV board and see if he knows more. I would love to get fox here locally, then we could just work on ABC and NBC

Yup, so far so good here, too, only a couple of minor breakups. I hope reception is this good Wed. night for "Lost".

Won't do us much good if they still aren't passing HD.

Translation: We're screwed. For one thing, if they are just in negotiations, it will probably be a long time to get one from FOX after everyone else is taken care of, and I bet KYLE/KWKT doesn't have the resources to just buy one "off the shelf". Besides, I was told some time back that KYLE would probably get HD before KWKT, and what happened to that?


And who among us will that help? What we need is to pester them to do what is inevitable and bring their station up to speed and quit jerking us around with their light-bulb powered station.


Is that why, even though they are passing HD in Waco/Temple, KWKT is still broadcasting at the same power as KYLE, so nobody can get it unless they have cable?

I sent an e-mail yesterday to KWKT begging (yes, literally, begging) for them to give me a waiver with the promise that I'd drop it once they started broadcasting KYLE-DT at a power level that I could receive.

Not that I expected anything different, but their reply was:


I thought it was pretty interesting that D* has told them they are going up in lil within 30 days. I don't know when they received that notification, but hopefully the postponement of locals here isn't moving past that 30 days.

Yeah I was going to ask him sometime today.... Because we really are in a grey area.

I honestly wouldnt be suprised if KYLE doesnt even know they can possibly get the splicer free.

First off FOX isn't selling the splicers. They are sending them to stations free of charge. The equipment remains property of FOX though. The splicer is a properity based device. The only way you can get one is through FOX.

The only requirement for a station to receive a splicer is to be providing a 720p stream to plug into the splicer, nothing else. The 720p stream doesn't even have to have true HD on it, it can be 480 upconverted to 720 24/7. I do know that FOX is trying to get as many on line as quickly as possible and it will more than likely take until first of the year to make that happen for all of the affiliates who are eligible.

FOX owns several low power stations (mine being one of them) and we received our splicer so power level has nothing to do with it. If the station doesn't have a 720p stream up and running FOX will not ship one. It is that simple.

What I have a hard time understanding is if FOX supplies the splicers, which we already knew they do, why didn't KYLE get one the same time KWKT did, since the installers were already in the area? Unless there is a limit per DMA of some sort for now? I wonder just what is involved with supplying the 720p stream they are talking about.
