FINALLY! Chicago Cubs in HD! WGN-DT 04.12.04

I've been waiting for this for a LONG time. :D

Game is just starting. Looking good. Not as good as the MLB I've seen on INHD though. :( I think it may just be the lighting, it's very cloudy here in Chicago right now.

Welcome home Cubs!!

wish i coulld see it but i have to be at work
this sucks !!

I agree with the Picture Quality. Are you having audio sync issues? Also, don't go to 9.2 unless you want to fry your speakers. Something is wrong there.
I am watching through Comcast and I haven't noticed any audio problems.

I'm watching through Comcast as well. Sounds fine here.

Man there is some kind of problem where the camera exposure is set wrong or something... are you guys noticing the REALLY white spots on their shirts? There are times where the spots get so white that they are completely overwhelming and are "taking over" the blue stripes as well. Don't know if that makes any sense. :)

Also as always the score bug needs some work. It looks like the SD score bug just upconverted and it looks out of place. I wish there was some way they could have higher resolution (and smaller) little bugs. You would still be able to see them perfectly fine in HD, but they would take up much less valuable screen space.

Just my thoughts. :)

The problem is white is never very friendly on TV. It many times will overexpose. Like you said I think it is overexposed.

I agree with the score bug. I believe it was CBS that does it right. They have a separate bug for the HD and SD video. It also helps with the placement if you have two separate bugs.

So far my audio problem is from my HK525 dropping out when switching from DD5.1 to prologic II and back again for commercials. Looks O.K.

Have the broadcasters said anything about it over the air?

They did during the first part of the broadcast.

It would be cool if they included the HD in the score bug on top of the screen...

Pittsburg 5 Cubs 0... Oh the horror in HD!
Thanks to 5.1 you could hear someone in the crowd yelling "go back to Atlanta" to Maddux.

Seriously why is it already 5 to 0. Seriously.

Go White Sox.

5-2 now, with lots of time to catch up.

I gotta tell you guys though, there are a few things about this picture that are really disturbing me. The insanely bright whites being the main problem for me.
I don't have a problem with whites. One camera was a little overexposed when they switched to it, but they toned it down right away. Which camera view in particular is giving you a problem. I am watching sosa right now hitting from behind the pitcher and I can clearly see blue stripes.

Wrong thread buddy.

But seriously, it does suck that most of the HD games (both Cubs and Sox) are day games during the week when most people work. Looking forward to checking it out this weekend.

The DD feed is gone now, now the sound is messed.

Just relocated to Mobile, Al. Called WGN, Direct TV and Dish working on sending out Cubs, Sox and WGN in HD, no time table.

How large of an antenna do I need to receive the broadcasts 1,025 miles away?

Go Cubs abd Sox!

Wow this is quite a sloppy game. Many many errors and we're only at the bottom of the 4th.
Mostly sloppy because the Pirates have made 4 errors. I think they tried a suicide squeeze with the bases loaded and one out. And, well, they committed suicide. I can't tell if it actually was a steal of home try or a bungled bunt as I'm following by epsn site while enjoying this forum (I'm also nominally working, but....)

I always wanted WGN even living in Batlimore because of its large numbers of sports broadcases but Comcast never offered even the SD version. Enjoy.

Go Bucs! (Hope don't get flamed too much).

13-2 what a terrible game.
When there's a game on WGN local is it always on WGN national or are there times when Chicagoland only gets the game?

Don't take this as gospel, but I believe if a game's on WGN in Chicagoland, it'll be on nationally. But the HD feed is only in Chicago - SD for the rest of us. :( I'm hoping some of the games will be on INHD.

Another great Cubs season! Is it over yet!!!!

I find it very difficult to have much empathy for your Cubs/HDTV problems!

Here's the situation in North Texas...

1) Texas Rangers are "rebuilding" now and fans have very low expectations for reaching the playoffs this year. :(

2) There is no HDTV coverage of Texas Rangers games. :(

3) The local station which televises Rangers games is conserving energy by providing an extremely low-power digital signal. :(

4) The local station which televises Rangers games provides a very low quality picture on their digital channel. This is the only example I have seen where a station's analog picture actually looks better than their digital picture.

Go Cubs! :)

I recorded a clip of the game to analyze the stream, seems the video feed was in the 16Mbit/sec range, with 16.8 being the limit, and 16.33 being the average for the minute I recorded. There was still over 1.2Mbit/sec to give, though, from the null packet stream size. I did see a lot of motion artifacts in the background in some pans, maybe they just need to shoot in a way that won't generate a lot of artifacts. The set cameras looked pretty good, though a couple were a bit shaky.

Yeah yeah......watching on FSN is going to be painful. I do occasionally watch the Cubs, only in HD.
fsn needs to find a way to do cubs and sox in HD even if it means having it only on INHD via comcast until the new sportschannel starts next fall
post #30 of 35
Yes!!!
