Fargo, ND - HDTV - Page 48

I saw on the weatherscan channel (ch. 29) that CableOne will be adding Sci Fi HD (415), USA HD will replace Universal HD, and Bravo (345) will be added to the digital pack effective 3/31. Oxygen (346) will be added on 4/30 to the digital pack. Doctor Who in HD will be a nice addition.

CableOne replacing HD channels? Yikes...

Thanks for the update, grovers50!
Good catch grovers50. Nice to see them adding HD, thought outright adding USA HD instead of replacing Universal HD would have been better. Still no news on FSN-HD?? I was really hoping for that one this spring.
I liked Universal HD, but will watch USA HD a lot more, so I guess I like that. SCIFI HD isn't bad either, and I've been waiting for Bravo for a long time. Overall the channel selection is finally bordering on decent, though FSN-HD is still a glaring omission.

Thursday, March 19, 2009:
KXJB and DirecTV have reached a new agreement that will allow Channel 4 and its CBS programming to return to DirecTV's lineup. DirecTV says KX will be available to viewers by 8:00 a.m. Friday, March 20.
Everyone at KXJB and Parker Broadcasting, Inc. is very happy to have this issue resolved, and we apologize to viewers for the inconvenience. Negotiators for both parties worked very hard to get the agreement finished in time for basketball fans to see the NDSU Bison play in their first-ever NCAA Tournament game.
Sincerely,
Charley Johnson, KXJB-TV

Thanks for the update. It's pretty stupid that they could get a deal worked out before they had to take it off the air. Ridiculous, in fact! At least it's back for the big game tomorrow. Chances of the Bison winning? hahaha, not good.
So KXJB must have caved? I don't think DirecTV would have cared as much as KXJB about getting it done in time for the Bison game, so I wonder if KXJB dropped the price enough for DirecTV to accept?

Does DISH Network have locals for Fargo (West Fargo, specifically) yet?
They are supposed to be here today between approximately between noon and 4. All but ABC in HD. Why no ABC I don't know.
Out of curiosity, why would someone pay $5 extra every month to get local channels that are free over the air? Is it just the convenience factor?
One reason, if you're a DisH Network subscriber with a DVR anyway, is that the $5.00 gives you a schedule of local programming so you can program the DVR by program title.

Another advantage for locals and the DVR is that you can record one local channel and watch another local via the satellite. In my case with a dual DVR, I can watch one HD local channel and record two others.

By the way, channels 15, 4 and 11 are HD on the satellite now, but not 13 or 6.

There's a full-page ad in The Forum today for the HD locals on Dish, so they're probably going to try to take advantage of the window where they have them and DirecTV doesn't.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say that my heart goes out to all of you who are dealing with the flooding. Living in Grand Forks, we obviously know how devastating flooding can be. Take care of yourselves, and thanks for giving to the Fargo (and surrounding areas) HDTV community!

I have NBC, CBS and FOX in HD coming in on my dish with DishNetwork. I do not see ABC or PBS though. I have been having really good reception with my antenna but it will allow me now to record two network channels in HD. Well actually 3 if I set one to the antenna. Any new HD addition is a welcome addition.

Is PBS (KFME) off the air? I haven't been getting them for a few days now.
Never mind, I rescanned and found them again.

As an update, USA-HD has now replaced Universal HD on channel 490 and SciFi-HD is available on channel 415 on CableONE.

Good catch. Thanks for the heads up. I was sure hoping that FSN-HD would have been on the list this spring. Looking at the FSN Minnesota web site, I think CableOne must be the only cable op. in the region that doesn't have FSN-HD.
FSN HD is nice. Twins in HD, Wild in HD, Timberwolves (ha!) in HD. I have a buddy who works at FSN and he tells me they are adding more and more games in HD. Pretty soon they will just show everything in high definition. I'm excited. The Twins are going to be great this year! Now if FSN could work out their single-channel audio issues.

Too bad they didn't get it online for the BSG finale. I'm sort of going to miss UHD. The only basic cable station that shows R-rated movies uncut. But, I watch USA-HD more.

Anyone know if USA-HD zooms and stretches 4:3 content or if they show in OAR?

Got a letter this week from Midcontinent. They'll be starting construction in my area "soon" but need everyone to sign easements (give permission) to bury their cable in their backyards.

I don't know if everyone in Moorhead is getting these letters, or if it's only in specific areas where there is no "existing utility easement to utilize." In any event, the letter encouraged me to stop by Midco's offices next week to sign the easement.

The letter had no actual details like when construction would start, when service would launch, or what the official channel lineup would be. Anyone else in Moorhead get the letter?

I got a call from Midco (Grand Forks) saying that they were going to raise my rates. $4 for cable TV and $6 for Internet (increased every month). I will assume that these fees are coming because of their expansion plans in other areas. Although I do like Midco, this justifies the stereotypical "cable companies only raise rates" claim. I really don't understand it...

Well if it's any consolation, DirecTV also recently jacked up rates as well... (as did my barber dammit).

I'm so sick of listening to NBC without surround. Would others please send e-mail to hdtv@kvlytv11.com and ask for a fix?

They're tired of hearing from me.

Thanks,
Brian

Well, they're not going to go down, and they can't stay the same forever. All you can hope for is the rates go up more or less at the same rate as inflation, cost of living, etc.

Rumor is FSN-HD is coming soon on Cable ONE. We'll see...

Oh gosh, I hope so. I've been waiting for three years for them to add FSN-HD.

I feel sorry for you poor bastards who are with CableONE and still don't have Fox Sports North in HD. Some thoughts:

1. Why change the name from FSN to Fox Sports? FSN is so much better.
2. Why can't EVERY game be in HD? They ALWAYS use HD cameras.

My guess is they don't own their own HD-capable truck, so they have to rent it. Either they don't have the budget to rent it for all the games, or it's not available (my guess is the former).

Does anyone know why they re-aired the Survivor finale tonight after the news on KXJB? I recorded it from 7-9 on KXJB-DT and saw the whole thing, was there a problem on the SD feed or something?
