I am glad you finally fixed your damned signal, I'm picking you up loud and clear lately, so I can actually enjoy NBC programming in HD again,

That is, unless you have that big fat valley early warn weather crap up on the screen. I know its important to know when something terrible is bearing down on us, but could you at least do us all a favor and cut the radar view out until you can do that in full HD? It makes it impossible to watch hockey while its cropped down to 4:3 and that radar view covering almost a quarter of the screen.

This is the 21st century. Join the rest of us in it.

Has anyone who has Midcontinent had their DVRs updated recently? I received a flyer in the mail stating they were updating the DVR software, but mine has yet to be updated. I believe the flyer said the wek of June 20th. Just curious.

And mine just updated on Friday (7/29).

Just switched back to Cableone (bye bye DirecTV) and purchased a Ceton tuner for Media Center.

When I pulled down the guide for the first time last week, I noticed that I don't get 412 (hallmark) and 419 (turner classic movies) showing up.

Were these two channels recent adds for CableOne? If so, they just might not have made it through the system. They do show up on Zap2It, though, so I'm a bit concerned...

Edit: Scratch that. It looks like they just showed up in Media Center for me. Cool...

Why the hell cant KVRR get anything right?

Last week when they showed the Vikings game, they showed a 16:9 frame that was squashed down to 4:3 and looked horrible.

This week they're showing a 16:9 frame that's window-boxed completely needlessly.

God I wish Red River Broadcasting would go bankrupt so we could get a competent Fox Affiliate around here.

Oh goodie! They lose the feed for a few seconds and now they're stretching the feed from 16:9 to 4:3 again! Hooray for vertical stretching!

That happened everywhere. Here in Minneapolis, it happened on the KARE-11 broadcast also -- the temporary stretched 4:3 - but then reverted back to the regular HD picture shortly.

Well here it was either windowboxed 16:9 (the picture had thick black borders all around it), or the vertically stretched 4:3.

No window-box here ... just that momentary stretched 4:3.

Won't be able to tell how the broadcast goes this Saturday ... I'll be in section 231, row 3 watching in real high-definition.

And as long as I don't cover either eye ... in 3-D too.

This probably isn't exactly something to be proud of, but the Fargo TV market, ranked #117 for the 2011-2012 TV season, is now the largest in the United States without HD or widescreen SD newscasts. A list of stations with news in HD (call signs in capital letters) or widescreen SD (lowercase) as up-to-date as possible is available here.

I wonder who will be first with HD news ... WDAY or Valley News Live? I can't imagine KVRR doing HD news.

Is Fargo also the largest market to not get local HD broadcasting from DirecTV? Coincidence?

I believe there is one larger market ahead of us that doesnt have DirecTV locals.

And KVRR's newscast looks just plain terrible right now. They cant even afford modern Standard Def cameras, let alone high def.

I think I saw KXJB run an HD scroll during Survivor last night. Did anyone else catch that? I think it was during a commercial, but it was an HD commercial, and it stayed HD while they ran the scroll.

Ha, nope, but please spread the word that it is! The high actually hit 90 on Wednesday, but it was back in the 60's yesterday and today.

Are surround channels being put front? Audience and background music seem to overtake dialog...especially during late night shows.

Saw something interesting last night. There was a commercial on WDAY, and instead of just the normal black pillar bars for non HD, there was grey "WDAY HD" pillars on each side. I only saw it for one commercial, but it definitely caught my attention.

I realize this HD stuff is complex, but it seems like every other market I've visited is already broadcasting local news in HD.

I may be in the minority, but which ever station is first to go HD gets me as a regular viewer.

The Fargo market is the third largest nationally to have no local news in HD, and the largest nationally to still be in 4:3, as the two other markets that don't have any HD local news do have at least one station with local news in widescreen.

Oddly enough WDAY/WDAZ and PPB have been the only ones who have been able to put syndicated programming and commercials on in HD in the Fargo Market. Prairie Public has been the only one to produce in HD, although I've seen some letterboxed (inside sidebars) ads for VNL....I thought kvlyxjb would start HD news after their new set was unveiled, but I guess not....k*rr could become the first HD local news, as their equipment appears to be in worse condition may need replacement first.

So I take it KXJB/KVLY still don't have the ability to air any syndicated programming in HD? I thought that was rather bad in 2009 when I last lived in the market, but that's just about inexcusable at this point for stations that have the rights to most of the highest rated shows in syndication. But, then again, the owners live hundreds of miles away - what do they care what the picture quality of their stations looks like, as long the $$$ keeps flowing in.

Great. Does this mean theyre finally gonna start playing their reruns of two and a half men in HD?
