wsmv is on my bad side now. get it fixed!
It's time for scrubs and guess what I have, scrubs video but the audio is the soundtrack of Smallville.

What is wrong with WNAB? They have done this almsot every week

Anyone know how to contact them quickly? The email link on their webpage doesn't seem to get answered.

Back when they were on low power they use to keep everyone up to date on what was happening. I guess the staff has changed and they can't or won't check out their signal that's going out

I think WZTV manages them. You could call their office and complain.

This is making me angry, it seems like WSMV doesn't really have getting the HD fixed on the top priorities, I want to watch NBC in HD tonight, but I can not do this because the HD part is busted and DTV(probably) won't let me get WNBC HD or KNBC HD because of legal issues.

Directv just told me no dice on getting the Louisville or Huntsville NBC or DNS NBC affiliate. And my antenna can't pull in the stations either.

About trying for Bowling Green's HD channel. It is WNKY-DT channel 16 (40.1). I think it is still low power, but I thought I would suggest it as another station.

Looks like WSMV fixed the HD problem, watching Friday Night Lights in HD.

This is the Nashville OTA forum, so I not sure this is the correct place to ask.

Both are working fine for me via DTV, however.

I saw Ron Howes one time and I talked to him about the HD upgrade. He says they use Dell monitors, but I'm not sure about the really big screens.

Hey guys! New here and new to OTA HD. Glad to discover some great info.

Has anyone in the Nashville area had problems with WKRN-DT today? I had it for two days and it's gone now. All the other Nashville stations are fine.

I'm in Donelson. It's ok for me.

I am getting it, but lots of freezes. My antenna may have moved a bit on the pole - I had to re-aim it the other day to fix a similar problem. Normally 2 booms in but I have been having problems lately, but figured it was on my end.

I'm watching it fine right now for the New Years Eve show. Unfortunately although listed as HD in my Tivo guide it was SD.
I'm totally new to this. Any suggestions on what I can do to regain wkrn? I mean I haven't changed a thing since installing the antenna.

Hey Guys,
I'm new to this site and live in downtown Nashville. I have direct tv and comcast. I am currently remodeling my house and have access to open walls.

Should i mount an antennae? Why would i need this if i already have Directtv?

I've got no signal issues on WKRN today OTA from Spring Hill.. BUT... it's bandwidth starved and looks like sh!t. Hope the Rose Bowl looks better.

I just recently upgraded to an HDTV but have not upgraded my Direct Tv. I am blown away at the Picture we get with the OTA antenna. However we do not get any signal from WSMV. I know they are the only one that is sent VHF. We receive channel 4 but no signal on 4.1
I live in Donelson and only 11.5 miles from the transmitter.

Is that the reason?

I have almost the same problem, but I can get WSMV only if my 27" Sony SDTV is turned off. How I found out about that is I also have a Sylvania ATSC tuner w/ a signal meter that has a peak feature. I would turn the signal meter on and then turn the tv off, wait awhile, and turn it back on. When I turn it back on, it would have a second of sound from WSMV and then the signal goes out before I see any picture on the tv, and the peak on the signal meter would be in the 40s (the signal comes in without pixelation at about 35). I'm sorry it was kind of lengthy, but I wanted ya'll to know what my problem was. Darrin_s, that might or might not be your problem as well. If anybody can shine some light on this, please let me know.

Thanks,

No, but I could see how some people might have problems with the strong winds we had today. You can get a lot of weird reflections of the signal if its path is partially blocked by tall trees that are swaying back and forth. With an analog signal, it might look like ghosting that comes and goes. Digital receivers simply lose all video for a period of time. And usually, only a couple of stations are affected.

MR2828 I noticed the same thing as well about the New Year's Eve on WKRN being in SD. I think the reasoning for this is because WKRN records the feed from NYC live and then reairs it with their equipment an hour later. I have two ABC HD stations. One is WAAY 31 out of Huntsville and the other of course being WKRN. WAAY airs the live feed and shows the whole show in HD. The countdown is shown in eastern time zone as it is originally intended. I wish WKRN would do this instead of off-setting the show to coincide with midnight central time. If you want to have a big to do at midnight central time, go shoot some fireworks.

What are you using for an antenna? It could be (likely is) UHF only and does not offer enough gain on VHF 10 to pull in 4.1 . You can make a channel 10 dipole out of a $4 Radio Shack UHF single bow tie antenna - I covered this in this thread some time back. When properly cut and bent straight, it is just about a perfect 1/4 wave on 10. I ran that for a while and it worked better than my UHF antenna did. I ended up replacing it with an (outdoor) 5 element channel 10 Yagi made by TACO/DELHI which (of course) works a lot better. Under $50 delivered. You can also try good old fashioned rabbit ears, if you have an old pair laying around.

We still have over a year until the frequency shift, so worth making some investment in getting a better HD picture - but don't spend too much .

I was able to pick up WKRN-DT again today but the picture kept cutting out and freezing. Maybe it'll get better on its own.

Thanks for the explanation of the signal blockade.

I am using a Philips MANT940 that I got from Walmart. The box says its UHF only but surprising I'm able to get WSMV-DT.

I had to rotate my antenna when I got home tonight and 2.1 and 2.2 are once again rock solid. When it is warmer, I need to tighten down some bolts .

I thought you just posted that you had problems with 4.1 (VHF 10) ? It is like the Silver Sensor, make for UHF but under ideal conditions can pick up the VHF channel. Are you using yours inside or out? You can get the little $4 RS UHF bow tie antenna and cut it, and bend it straight and it makes a nice dipole for VHF 10. For $4 (less at places other than RS) it is worth a shot.

WTVF has decided to use VHF channel 5 for it's final digital channel selection. With WSMV on channel 10, that means Nashville will have OTA stations on VHF low, VHF high and UHF. Looks like a combo V/U antenna may be a reasonable investment.
Is the complete and final digital selection list available or is that still an on-going thing? I knew 5 was not going to stay on 56 UHF and assumed they would keep 5, but you never know. 4 could decide to vacate 10 and go digital on 4, couldn't they? I am assuming WNPT will be digital on 8 as well - their UHF temp frequency is nearly as crummy as WTVF's and they have never purchased much power for the temp channel. At one time, WTVF was full power on 56 but someone told me the other day that it was not full power now. Still works fine for me, however.

Thanks,
Dennis
I believe it is final, Dennis. WTVF switches DT to 5, WSMV DT stays on 10 but will probably map to 4, all the other local stations will keep their current digital frequency but also will probably map to their old analog channel designations.
