Nashville, TN - OTA - Page 96

ergh...

on a slightly different topic...

Anyone in Nashville driving around... check out 89.9fm... I heard an ID of what i thought was WVAL or WBAL... anyway, playing nothing but big band.. fades out towards murfreesboro, strongest so far around downtown out to donnelson... this is not the cornersville CP.. had a live DJ.. sounded older... but this is a pirate. Just what Nashville needs a pirate trying to do WAMB better... (which they are) good selection of songs... good audio. Someone knows what they are doing.. from the range looks like <100 watts.

If WTVF gets approval to move to 25 does anyone have an idea how long after that they'll actually start broadcasting on 25?

Speculation on the radio board was sometime next year. Here is a link if the mods don't mind...

Bowling Green has never had a low power station other than one FM that is already off the air. Some places seem to list active stations but they don't exist in real life. The closest is over on 31E between Glasgow & Scottsville but it's not exactly 'low' power.

I'm not seeing in any of that a date where ch 25 will be operational.

Once a CP is issued, the station has 3 years to build it.

Only the station management or engineering staff would be able to give you an estimated time line.

I'm pretty sure they want this change to occur sooner than later. I can't see them taking until 2014 to switch over.
Of course not. The 3 year term is simply what the FCC allows for fulfillment of the permit.
some quick info for those interested, i know a bit off topic, but the 89.9 big band pirate is still on.. have not figured out exactly where its location is.. fades out by harding on 24 south, good signal metroscenter and most of downtown, perhaps around donelson?
Live ID, WBAL.. very large library of big band, and a "seasoned" voice.. this is the frequency the kcat pirate used a few years ago.... rather enjoyable...
Anyone have good DTV skip this morning? Driving to work listening to our favorite big band pirate on 89.9 it was overwhelmed by WMAB Mississippi State Public Radio. First tropo of the year for me on FM.... and first from miss.
Fun Times....

Trops are incredible tonight. Does anyone know of a low power digital station with call letters W18B near Jackson, TN? I was able to rotate and get the main and 3 subs but lost it before I could identify. Huntsville coming in great from my area also.
W18BL? I didn't even know the station was on the air digitally, if that's what you saw.

I just found it on Wikipedia. It used to be W18BL analog and just switched over to W18B-LD a few days ago. Runs at 15.000 kw out of Adamsville, TN and is an affiliate of Unity Broadcasting. I would say they are probably still fiddling with it a little bit to make sure of everything. It covers SE West TN just over the Ky. Lake area from Corinth MS north to almost Decaturville, E to Ky Lake and W to just south of Jackson.

Just received an email from Richard Goetz (RTN). Said he is still working on the funding to go to Ch. 17 and will keep me updated. Wondering now if Daystar has backed out of funding plans?
daystar was having problems with its owner with some scandal recently... would not be surprised. What i want is me tv and antenna.. you would think nashville being a bigger market would pick up these new ones. RTN is sort of passe now.. these others are getting standalone affiliates in major markets.. seattle, San Francisco, etc not on subchannels...
I totally agree. Wonder if we could get information from any of the local stations concerning MeTv, AntennaWeb, etc.? I'm kind of tired of ThisTv too, especially since Ch. 5 sends no viewing data to Dish.

So I just found out Ring of Honor Wrestling is coming to OTA TV. If you don't know what Ring of Honor is, it's the closest thing we'll ever get to ECW nowadays...I've heard a lot of good things about this promotion.

Around these parts, it's speculated that either WUXP or WNAB will carry the series on a subchannel.

I know some of you may have connections in the TV business, so I'd appreciate it if you'd find out who's going to carry Ring of Honor starting in September.

Yeah another subchannel to further deteriorate the main HD signal!

We need all we can get... until WRTN can be received good all over metro, all the major players should be maxing out their bandwidth.. antennaTV etc.. There ought to be at least five subchannels on every station. There's nothing to watch on the networks anyway, i dont give a rats ass about degrading the signal... I want quantity not quality as far as getting a bunch of stations. I dont have cable never will again... I dont have sat, never will again.. Whats left? SUBCHANNELS! Bring em on. I rarely turn the tv on anymore, most of what i watch is available on internet anyway.. aljazeera, france 24 etc.

No offense but that's just stupid. So if you don't care about quality why bother with HD. why not just broadcast in SD? Oh wait people didn't spend hundreds of $$$ on a HDTV to watch SD. If you don't watch TV then why do you care if ther are subchannels or not?

Personally, I agree with you. However, it amazes me at how many people seem to not even notice they are watching crap. I don't think most people have an "eye" for a good picture. As long as it's on a big screen that they can brag about, they are happy.
A "good" HD picture truly is a sight to behold. But, as previously noted, they are very few and far between. I also agree that we should have as many sub-channels as possible. The big four networks (plus CW, MyTV and ION) have been putting on nothing but crap for years. I finally found a show this year which I can truly say is good stuff, and wouldn't you know...it's a remake of the original "Hawaii Five-O." When are the networks going to learn that there is a demographic which needs attention besides the 18-49 group!?
i dont care if it is in hd or not as i do not own a big fancy flat screen, my 36 inch 14 year old does just fine. As i said, I want quantitiy not picture quality. There are times sitting down in front of a tv is better that sitting in a chair in front of a computer screen watching Russia Today... and the new hawaii 5-0 is nothing compared to the old. To hades with HD, bring on the subschannels and put a dent in the cablecos pocketbook.
OTA sub-channels rely on ad sales to pay the bills and it is tougher getting advertisers to buy in if the audience is skewed older. This notion of dozens of sub-channels catering to the "too cheap to purchase cable" crowd is a fairy tale. Try getting advertisers on board if a high percentage of the viewers are unemployed. It will not work. Granted, being older doesn't automatically mean one is tight with a dollar and that is why lots of choices exist on cable for the over 50 demo.

Good for you and your old SDTV. So the 75% of the population that has HDTVs are supposed to be held back because of you?

If you want old shows there are DVD sets and things like Netflix and Hulu. If a channel has nothing but SD like say Channel 44( Jewelry Channel ) then sure go ahead and put 4 subchannels on the thing. They actually have the bandwidth for that. How many subchannels do you need to show old shows anyways? I'm tired of the HD quality degrading because of subchannels. There is CLEAR difference on WTVF between the time when they had ZERO subchannels and the two subchannels they have now.

A bunch of subchannels showing repeats of Leave it to Beaver, Brady Bunch and Good Times is not going to put a dent in the cable companies pocketbook.

I'm not sure what is not being offered in the Nashville area that you're not getting that is REASONABLY likely to be offered.

Nashville stations don't seem to be wanting ANYTHING. WSMV took away 4.2 Telemundo which is fine with me, but now I hear they are going to use it for satellite news relays which do me absolutely no good since we already have way too many news offerings. Channel 2 stubbornly keeps the Wx weather channel which always lags behind real-time weather. To WTVF's credit, they did get THIS tv but we could do without NewsChannel 5+. Channels 30 and 58 have music videos. I can get those on MTV, VH1, CMT, GAC, GMC, etc. Nashville Tv: would you PLEASE wake up and give us something that would make us want to watch your stations, whether in HD or SD????

I believe there are stations that would schedule Christmas music in July or launch a "Watch Paint Dry" channel if they thought it would draw a large enough number and the type of audience that appeals to advertisers. Anyone here watching the old Twilight Zone episodes that channel 4 is running on Sunday nights? One of the best shows ever.

Yes! Twilight Zone is my all time favorite. On July 4 (or Memorial Day, I can't remember), when they run the marathon, my wife doesn't go near the TV. One of the few times I can be in TV heaven.
