What's so amusing??? Is there some reason people in Jamestown can't get Channel 4 on cable/satellite?

Obviously people have different taste in viewing options, but I for one would never go back to OTA unless there was no other option. The channel offerings on the digital sub-channels are, imho, filled mostly with tired re-runs that need to be retired permanently and are an excuse just to run advertisements.

Go watch cable after 2 AM nothing but informericals. Even during prime-time what is on? "Real" Housewives, shows about pawn shops, cup cake competitions, garage sale people, midgets, catching catfish by hand and tons of other stupid stuff. Of course 1/3 of the hour show is actually commericals and you pay for this stuff.

Jamestown is knoxville dma so no, unless you have performed a miracle and cracked nagra 3 you wont see ch 4 on their dish.. onto some more news.....

Digital TV Europe, 22 Sept 2011: "France 24 has expanded its reach in
the US after signing a new distribution agreement with WANN TV. The
deal means the English version of the news channel will be available
throughout Atlanta. France 24 said its penetration in the US increased
by 50% in the first half of 2011. Its French and English channels are
available on DISH World throughout the US. Its English channel is also
available on Time Warner Cable in the New York metropolitan area, on
RCN, Comcast, Cox and FiOS TV in Washington D.C. and on RCN in
Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia and Boston. WANN TV is a DTT
network reaching 2.4 million households in the Atlanta metropolitan
area." See also http://www.wanntv.com

Would be much better than news channel 5+......

Out of curiosity I checked Comcast's cable lineup for Jamestown and it includes WSMV and WTVF in addition to the Knoxville channels.

WKRN’s local newscast is finally in HD.
I live in La Vergne and was picking up RTV and WRTN very well with rabbit ears. I recently went from Comcast to Dish and lost the signal, even though the set up for the otas were the same. I got an ota module for the receiver, and was able to pick up the local otas. However, it hasn't found RTV and WRTN. I've scanned 3 times. The last scan found 27 channels. It jumps from This tv channel 5-03 to channel 8, and doesn't pick up RTV and WRTN, which were on 6.2 and 6.4 when I was getting them before. Don't know why I'm not getting them. Maybe I need a stronger indoor antenna. I miss those channels. I also wish Nashville would get Antenna TV or ME-TV. The old shows beats the crap out of what's on now.
I had a low band small outdoor antenna inside a couple years ago to pick up WRTN. After a while the audio and video started glitching (their fault) and then one day poof no more picking them up. TV fool says im line of sight lol.. I also cannot get WETV murfreesboro or the low power digitals from nashville. I can however get WIIW's colorbars great in analog. There is something amiss in WRTN's transmitter i am guessing. Even with outdoor antenna I cant decode them. Maybe they are less than 300 watts ERP now???

Its very frustrating. We desperately need a WANN-LD like in Atlanta here. I would be happy to watch fishbowl cam if it was a subchannel.. all these people that would rather have super duper HD i just dont understand.. Quantity over quality anyday with me...

i also am in lavergne...

btw-- dish installer was amazed when wife told him only reason we picked up dish was for the earth channel.. you know the live picture of the earth feed from an echostar sat?
yep... thats what we watch pretty much all the time.. that and the ocasional weather from the penguin on WKRN...
Yeah, the Earth channel is cool, and some good tunes. Last Dec. Rick Goetz said he was planning to go to 15,000 watts. Wish he would hurry. I really miss RTN & WRTV, but I'll keep trying. I picked them up ok, except if the weather was bad. I also had to get a signal booster to pick up the locals.
I emailed Dish about the possibility of adding me-tv. They said they will consider whatever is requested the most. Can't hurt to try. I have been trying to see if there are any plans for me-tv, or antenna tv to come to the Nashville area. Haven't found anything, so far. Can't tell Rick Goetz is doing anything about getting a stronger signal for RTV.
Dish wont add those subchannels. Its not unheard of for dish to have low power stations in smaller markets especially if they were -ca but most are univision or other regional mexican formats... they have enough capacity on the spot beams however....

as far as me tv, it would have to be on a subchannel first to even be considered.. since we have no weigel or tribune owned stations around its a longshot the nearsighted cheap low budget big 3 in nashville will do anything creative... Gannett has ruined WBIR in knoxville.. was for years one of the highest rated stations in america.. loss of local programming and personalities has left that station a mess. Sad.. TV as in radio needs to focus on the community and have strong personalities but those days are long gone and will never be back at least in our lifetimes (talking 40 plus years left hopefully)
I agree, and it's a very frustrating situation for those of us who love classic tv shows.
I could see Univision coming to Nashville before I could see another classic TV subchannel.

Univision has been beating NBC on some nights in the prime time ratings.

WSMV ran a spanish subchannel for a while. Which network was it?
Telemundo.

YAY! Great news.. not for those who want to put a 3000ft antenna up and get WANN up here, but....

"WANN 32 (the Atlanta LP channel with 10 subs+ radio and a pretty good signal) has two in-house sub channels. PRISM plays movies. OLDIE GOLDIE plays movies, and older public domain series. These 2 are now streaming http://www.wanntv.com/index.html along with the local Atlanta program guide."

this from a post in another forum.. not exactly OTA but does beat the 3000ft antenna idea....

now will Mr Goetz stream his non RTV subchannels?? doubt it.. but its an idea for him to consider.. Also.. with AM dead and AM's putting up translators on FM why would Goetz not consider renting out an audio channel to a poor AM? Might get some income that way... Look at WAMB... they have a translator and when WAMB goes off at sunset, look what appears... regional mexican in stereo... hmmmmm

well, its a bad joke, but i have seen Lisa Patton called the penguin on WKRN..
Strange, but I prefer WKRN news over the others.. that set on CH 5 is too much cabin in the smokies... WBIR Knoxville did that 15 years ago... The banter between the anchors after demetria is atrocious. Just my opinion but I like WKRN better...

But i like Snowbird.. WATE in Knoxville had Snowbird i think in the mid eighties but dropped him.. Always liked hearing that music with snow on the ground and no school...

WBBJ in Jackson is adding CBS to its .2 digital channel. Makes me happy because I now have 2 choices for CBS, in case WTVF decides to preempt or delay!

Yeah but is it going to be HD? Actually it says it's adding it to 7.3 not 7.2.

Now the next question I have is Charter going to add that channels to my line-up since it has WBBJ 7.1? And also if they do will they remove WTVF from the HD line-up since they refuse to have WKRN in HD since they offer WBBJ in HD?
I assume they'll do something like ABC-HD 7-1/7-2 and CBS 7-3/7-4, whether or not it will be HD is another story.

Sorry...I got the the info from Broadcast and Cable magazine. Guess they were told incorrectly. The WBBJ article says that they will be on satellite but I too doubt .3 will be HD. But I'm still just happy that I can have a choice of which station to watch when I want it.

Well if it's not HD then it really isn't a choice. Charter only shows WKRN in SD because of WBBJ also being ABC. Hence WKRN never gets watched though I'd actually prefer it to WBBJ. Since you live in McEwen it shoudn't be hard getting in WTVF. So the choice between WTVF at 1080i or WBBJ 7.3 at 480i its a no brainer. It's seems very few of the stations in my area can do anything right.

The thing is, I get about 34 channels OTA with a pretty powerful antenna. If WBBJ were to decide to do HD on .3, I wouldn't have to rely on sat. or cable to receive it. McEwen is on the edge of the western Highland Rim so we are in a "sweet spot" of sorts when it comes to aerial reception. Unlike you, I actually like watching 7 most of the time (except for news), because WKRN has so many local preemptions for various things, and WTVF, while not as bad as it used to be, is still pretty bad about preempting network programming sometimes.

Yeah I've seen that doing various Tvfool reports on areas.

yeah that's kind of the point. News sucks. Very amateurish. But hey at least the finally went widescreen.

Yeah but sometime WKRN has things WBBJ doesn't. For example Titans pre-season football games. Also the late night schedule is different. WBBJ is often behind. fpor example it wasn't until Sept the Live With Regis an Kelly when HD widescreen. When WKRN has had it for awhile. Also late night shows on WBBJ are still 4:3. For example shows like Criminals Minds, CSI: Maimi etc are 4:3 and on other channels widescreen. No excuse for that.

I agree about late night but I usually watch satellite late night anyway...

Just found out...WBBJ is also adding 7.4, which will be Me-TV! I have wanted Nashville to pick this up for months! They may be a small market station but at least they are listening to what viewers want.
I wish Nashville would get ME-TV, and or Antenna TV. Sent emails to stations in the past about it, but never got a reply. Now Jackson is getting ME-TV. C'mon Nashville!
