Amp for Onkyo HT-S760?

I was just wondering, my uncle eluded to the fact yesterday that I should need to by an Amp for my home theater system (since I haven't gotten it yet...it's being shipped now). He said that the receiver can't handle all those watts.

Yet, in all the reviews, no one mentions a word about an amp for this system. I'm wondering if I need one?

The reviews I read at places like Cnet have me believing this powerful system handles itself just fine.

If you have to start buying amps and seperate components, it kind of defeats the purpose of getting an HTIB anyways. You may as well go all the way and finish it.

Yah, they didn't say anything on Onkyo's site, but on another site it says it comes with its own amp in the reciever (100W x 6 speakers + 150W subwoofer).

Yes, it has 100W/channel, and a powered sub. Mine will just about blow me out of my apartment. I can't run it past about "44" on the volume setting before things start rattling around in the store downstairs!

I have the Onkyo 760 as well and I can't imagine needing an amp for it.... I cant even hear myself think around 50 on the dial.... it kicks ass

Hi SubKamran,

The Onkyo set you bought should have come with a receiver which is has an integrated amp.
Depending on your room size, you might want to consider an external amp but you probably do not need one unless your room is quite large (40x40ft)

Your uncle hasn't heard your HTIB yet. Wait til he does. He may change his mind.

i also have the onkyo ht-s760.it si a great set.one negative thing it is not thx certified.
