Greenville, NC - HDTV - Page 275

WNTC 9 is still not showing HD during the 7 PM hour and is zoomed in cutting off the edges of the shows.

Looks like Media General is selling their newspaper business to Warren Buffett, but keeping their TV stations. Interesting article here:

I wonder what happened to WNCT's widescreen news? I guess I was a minority, but I liked it better than this 4:3 mess.

WCTI was voted Outstanding News I see. Looks like Katie Jeffery is gone now, but Dominic is still here.

Maybe now MG will quit squeezing the TV stations dry (since they did so to prop up the papers).

Seen a 1st for me today. WCTI news at noon was anchored by a weatherman.
Dominic Brown anchored the noon news. He did a good job.

This goes on at WWAY and WECT all the time. I don't know why this trend is picking up?

$$$$

You can afford to hire more weathermen/women if they can double as newsreaders.
No, you can save money by reducing the number of people needed. Noon is not a high viewing time period.

Is that not the exact same thing I said?

Not exactly. lol - you said hire more meteorologists, and have them be anchors too.
Yes but that is exactly what CTI has done... They have more meterologists on the payroll but Tori and Dominic end up doing reporting half the time.

I guess maybe they are using him while they can since he is on his way out to WTKR in Norfolk very soon.

And it looks like WEPX has petitioned to relocate from channel 51 to 26. No paperwork yet.

Should be interesting. I don't see how they will gain any ground on that little tower they are on. I wish someone could get a pic of that one. The top looks like it was cut off.

Trip are they being forced off 51? I know the FCC is trying to clear off 51 in some areas.
I honestly don't know if there's something going on behind the scenes or if they just decided to voluntarily clear off of 51.

Looks like some kind of VHF antenna has been added to the WJNC AM tower here in Jacksonville.
More likely than not it appears WEPX ION physical channel 51 will relocate to channel 26, and looks to add to their current broadcast area. This is to allow for more wireless communication. All channels on 51 likely will be shut down and moved.

Big opening this morning... getting all of Wilmington (even WILM!), channel 33 SCETV, WFXB/Florence, WLPS/Lumberton, and WSAV/Savannah.

Atmospheric conditions must have been just right a couple of days ago.

I picked up WITN (virtual channel 7) with just an indoor antenna. I've picked up Greensboro stations before , but never anything from eastern NC.

The computerized voice reading the coastal weather conditions on 7-3 was neat.

By the way, do the cable systems in eastern NC carry MASN with the Orioles games?

In the central part of the state, the cable system doesn't carry MASN.

Suddenlink carries MASN. I don't think Time Warner offers it anywhere

Directv subs that can get over the air thru there HD recievers. Directv finally corrected 14.2, now it can be picked up and Bounce TV can be seen over the air thru the AM21 tuners and a H20 or HR20 reciever.
In most of NC (at least Raleigh - Greensboro - Charlotte and areas in between, as long as you DON'T have Time Warner, you have MASN! Now to see if Directv will ever fix the WGHP 8.2 issue...

I think we should give credit where credit is due, and that is to WNCT and their new HD equipment, because the picture and sound I am receiving is better than any other channel I can pick up at this point. Now if they can just get their act together with their newscasts, and getting it in Hi def, they've got everyone else beat. I hope WITN will be able to improve on their picture and sound soon, because right now, they are in last place as far as my opinion goes.

(about this new design of the forums, not too sure it is better - still needs more emoticons, and I have a hard time getting to the latest posts)
Yes WNCT does look good. With Media General getting out of the newspaper business one can assume that it will be a good thing for WNCT and the other stations in their company.

I wonder what the status is with their application to move from channel 10 to 45?
I checked on the request for 45 recently, still no change that I can tell. I hope they don't get it. Maybe they can increase their signal to 45 kW like WTVD if they stay on 10? Their signal reaches further than WITN's as it is now, and is a bit stronger. The only time I have a hard time getting their signal is inside a well insulated building with rabbit ears. WBTW still hasn't heard either if they will be able to move off of 13.
WITN should apply for a power increase to the 1000 KW limit.

How long ago did WTVD increase its power? That station's signal does seem stronger and more stable than it used to be.

Not too long after the transition to DTV. People were having a terrible time with it at the transition. I think the power level was like 22 kW and did not come close to covering their traditional broadcast area, let alone their market. They used to be on channel 52, and had to of course get on another channel, and chose to stay with their analog 11. A few years ago, they updated their antenna from Horizontal polorization to Circular.
I haven't seen a trace of WTVD since the transition. It was no problem as an analog, and I had their digital UHF without a problem. I miss it... it's the only RDU channel that I lack.
