I can pickup signals almost 30 miles away with a signal strength reading in the 70s. I've been very happy with it and like you said, it's cheap.

Good luck!

I got nothing with it. Didn't try all that hard as the Terk HDTVi looks to be identical with the Zenith S.S. and it takes a long time (minutes) to run the scan for HD OTA channels.

I was I admit disappointed. Now thinking of RadioShack 15-1880 or maybe something external or in the attic.

Or maybe exception (or whatever they're called) for stations I can't get on antenna.

I install home theater and automation systems for a living, Most of our big jobs get an HD antenna system. So yeah I'm pretty sure.

Thanks--

Yeah, you probably shouldn't bother. Even on your chimney, you still need a long range directional antenna with a rotor. You then would need a pre-amp just to make up for the long cable run to get from the roof to your TV. You will do all this just to pick up ABC and ABC is actually the only feed you will be able to get from Directv. WLOX has a blanket waiver for Hattiesburg so Directv can give you the distant HD and SD channels. The other three stations will deny any waiver pretty quickly. The waivers are based off of ANALOG reception, which we have no problems with.

Assignment
* yellow - uhf WHLT-DT 58 CBS HATTIESBURG MS TBD 14° 9.9 58
* yellow - uhf WDAM-DT 7.1 NBC LAUREL MS 358° 12.9 28
these are the only digital stations listed from the antennaweb.org site for hattiesburg, ms 39401

your cbs is listed as TBD just like wlbt is here in jackson, so that means who knows.......

usually you need a singal in the 60+ range to lock in a digital station. so as kd pinted out the jackson station are a touch outta reach from hattiesburg area even with high tower and really good antennea/amp equipment.

contact the dtv hd department and request the HD waivers for the NY east coast feeds but good chance you will not get them due to hattiesburg not having O&O stations. maybe abc as kd points out, good luck with it tho.

Yeah I was really hoping Katrina would knock WHLT's tower out and they would decide to go ahead and build an HD one.

Last comment I had from WHLT was 'As soon as the government makes us'

Spoke to WJTV & they had to back off full power to fix some issues on their end. They hope to be back up full strength in about a week

WLBT says they will probably do some more testing this weekend...we will see.

Maybe we could get Frank Melton to to a "Bottom Line" Segment on this problem.

Or would that be a conflict of interest since he is part owner of WLBT.

I wasn't sure if he was still invested. Yeah, let's get the mayor on this problem ASAP.

Enjoy.

Anyone else having issues with dropouts and screen stutters on JTV? Since Wednesday night I have noticed this on my Tivo recordings and I am seeing it again during the Ole Miss/Alabama game. My signal strength is in the high 80s/low 90s and is stable.

CSI/NY on Wednesday and CSI on Thursday were pretty bad. The picture would freeze or pixellate or you would get the digital trash when someone would move.
We've been having pixelation, drop outs and freezes for over a week here with Channel 12. I live in Brandon on the Reservoir right across from Ridgeland. The signal has been steady (at 65%) but we have a Samsung Directv HD box and I don't think the OTA signal strength meter is accurate. I have no problems with channel 16 HD and the signal strength bounces up and down between only 0 and 35% for that channel. It can't be right. Does anyone else notice the same thing with the Samsung box?

hey sf, i've got a hd tivo, recorded then watched CSI:NY from wednesday night and had no problems. recorded then watched Survivor on thursday and no problems in SD. watched some of the Lsu/florida game in HD today and had no problems either. getting 90 on signal out in brandon.

i've got CSI from thrusday recorded but haven't watched it yet. will try and let you know if it has problems as you mentioned.

Interesting -

I Tivo'd the HD feed of Close to Home on WJTV Tuesday night. That recording was perfect. The behavior I am seeing is much like Megamixer. But if dssturbo1 received a problem free recording, it must be an issue on my end. With WJTV going full power I may need to experiment with my antenna position to see if that is my problem.

It's really strange that my signal strength is not fluctuating but my picture is.

Thanks for the feedback...

I'm new to the Board, appreciate all the info. I (like everybody else it appears) been waiting for WLBT to come onboard. I just rescanned my channels and thought WLBT was up...not on channel 9...but on channels 6.1, 6.2, 6.3. (no sound on 6.3). Well, after viewing a few more minutes, this is the ABC feed out of Greenwood...WABG. Pretty crazy! I live across the Rez off of Fannin Landing Cr several miles past Palisades..I'm still receiving the Jackson 16.1 and 16.2 feed. Is Meridian an NBC affiliate station? I seriously doubt I will be able to pick up the Meridian station, but then again, I never thought about receiving the Greenwood station.

Channel 78 on Time Warner is reporting that WLBT will be added to the HD tier as of November 1. I assume that's probably a good sign for the OTA folks, too.
And what about Fox?
Isn't it about time for our monthly "WLBTwill be online soon" informational update?

Don't tell me they're getting too lazy even to LIE to us anymore.

Enjoy.

Time Warner lists WLBT-DT on channel 1002...

Time Warner Channel Lineup

I was originally told last year that the HD feed would be on Time Warner Cable before being broadcast OTA. I guess during testing WLBT saw their power bill spike and decided to scrap the OTA feed.

Hey did anybody watch The Amazing Race??
it's the family edition so it's been mostly in america this time instead of around the world, and has been not quite the same show as regular format. BUT hey they came through MS this time, LOL. went to Hattiesburg from Talladega, AL, then came up 49 to Richland and then down to NO.

They should have made them go to WLBT and ask the station manager if they could help put up the tower to get a clue, LOL. oops, but it's on wjtv......
hey SF,

odd time warner does not show a HD channel for wjtv? but they show wlbt, argh...........

WJTV and Time Warner Cable have not come to an agreement on carrying WJTV-DT. I would assume it is only a matter of time before they work out the finances and offer CBS-HD.

Tried to watch AR on my OTA USDTV box last nite. Picture freezes, etc. Too unstable to watch. Went back to bedroom watched off satellite.

Gas price was around $2 when the show was filmed. Remember the good ole days? Before Bush began ruining EVERYTHING?

Enjoy.
It may just be me, but isn't it odd that all other episodes of AR shows the teams visiting a interesting or historical part of the area. BUT when they get to MS all they could find was a trailer sales lot and a gas station in Richland?
Here is the email response I got from WLBT (regarding Local OTA HD)...WORTHLESS!!

-------------------------------------

We have completed all the necessary installations. We are now waiting on approval from the FCC for our microwave license to be approved. Should be any day.

Would that be any more coincidental than picking a black family named Black? Seriously, you have hit the nail on the head with that. Like they couldn't find someplace in Hattiesburg (or here in Jackson for that matter) better than the examples cited. You think these Hollywood types don't know how to stereotype?

Puleeze.

Enjoy.
yeah, thery should have made them go to the delta and pick enough cotton to make a bale.

really outright corporate sponsorship showing just making them stop at a bp on 49 s in richland to get a clue.

they were in hattiesburg and wound up in NO. it was just stupid to make them come up 49 and then back down 55 when they were only 70 miles from NO to start with.
the scrhoeder family missed the 55 s connect and went all the way to vicksburg, an 80 mile roundtrip screwup then got eliminated in their home town, DUH.
I caught myself trying to come up with ideas that would have been better as well. I do have a happy thought concerning the slanted negative outlook that such 'exposure' brings to mississippi. All in all we've got it pretty good here. Nothing will bastardize a good thing quicker than a little good publicity.

Enjoy.
I live in Vicksburg and I was sure they were going to come here and have to go through the military park or one of the antebellum homes. I figured they would have either gone to Vicksburg or to Natchez. Oh well, I guess a trailer park in Hattiesburg is just as good.

Received this from Dan today @ WLBT:

WLBT is ready to launch HDTV on channel 9. We are waiting on the FCC to approve the final paperwork. Should be any day now.

hey maybe we all need to email the FCC and ask them to ok wlbt dt, and DO IT NOW..........

hey branan that would have been a great roadblcok or detour the national park. they could have them searching for tombs or monuments. much better than a bp station.
