Installer for D* just left. Changed out the LNB's on the dish. Using existing wiring. He said that it is more than adequate and in fine shape. All satellites are coming in strong. Initially all I can say is that the picture quality blows Time Warner away. Now I have to learn all about this Cinema deal, etc.

That's good to know. I'll be strongly considering it when their new moca dvr comes out.

Cool. Keep me in mind and I will refer you. We both save $100 that way.

Just fooling around with the Cinema Plus here. Recording a movie as a test right now. I downloaded and installed the DirecTV2PC software onto my laptop here and I am watching the movie on my laptop while it is still downloading and recording on the DVR. Cool stuff.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post to this forum. I am wondering if there are others having the same issue I have. The past couple of weeks Fox has been pretty much unwatchable. The audio is very choppy, cuts in and out, sometimes not working at all. Directv has been no help at all. I have the HR22 DVR running through a Denon AVR 591. My parents also have the same issue at their home. Is anyone else having this issue or have had it in the past and found out what it was? Any info would be great. Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum. I just checked 31 on my new D* install and I can detect some minor audio drop outs. But it is not unwatchable. Just got D* installed Thursday and we have not watched much on WUHF yet. What is Direct telling you when you report this ?
I think that the audio problem originated at WUHF. Either way, it is not happening this morning.

Probably not, otherwise OTA viewers would have been experiencing the same problem, which I have not.

But, kind of a moot point now since it is apparently fixed.

I receive WUHF from TWC & OTA in my bedroom & i havn't had any problems with it so the problems must be at DirecTV end.

Looking at the HTML Channel Lineup, it looks like it's on the Movie Pass, which also includes the Encore channels, Fox Movie Channel, Movie Pass on Demand, and Disney Family Movies on Demand. Looks like you get the On Demand version of FEAR too.

Note that the PDF versions of the channel lineup were updated 6/1, but are already out of date, not showing channels like FEAR, Lifetime HD, Oxygen HD, and the other 6/2 additions.

Directv has me reset the box and change settings and things like that but I know it's not an issue with the box. It does not happen on any other channel other than Fox. It also comes and goes. I watched the whole Nascar race this past Sunday with no issue. Then, later in the day it was cutting in and out during the Simpsons and I had to change the channel. I checked back later and it was still doing it. This evening I tuned to Fox and everything is ok. It seems like it's worse during the evening but I could be wrong as I don't watch as much television in the mornings or afternoons.

You should check the OTA signal (if you can) just to confirm nothing similar is happening during the time you are noticing it on D*. I love how the CSR techs always ask you to re-boot the box to fix all problems....especially one that only happens on one channel. You might also call or email WUHF and tell them about it. It's possible that no one at WUHF (that would actually notice or care about these things) actually has D*. Or, they may know of the problem and are working with D* to fix it.

I've noticed during the latest fund drive that the local pledge breaks are now in true HD. Has WXXI converted to HD for local programming?

They've had 3 hdv cams for a few years now and have doing the fund drives in HD for a while. Not the greatest cams- their HD stuff from out of studio looks pretty flat. But you get what you pay for.

Just a quick comment that so far my DirecTV experience is going great. No issues at all. Even the billing is issue free. Received my referral credit today that will start being applied beginning with the next bill. I was also presented a Samsung 52" LCD by my older son. All he wants is whatever I collect for selling my 4 year old LG and it appears that I have a customer for that. I have mixed feelings about parting with the LG because it has been a great set for us with a very nice looking picture on it.

Congrats on the good service (my experience as well) and your new TV!

I just looked at the TWC legal notices for July & i'm confused on a couple of things that are listed. I'll put them below & i would appreciate any info that would end my confushion.

On or about July 12, 2011, the following channels will be added:
WNYO The CoolTV (Erie, Genesee/Wyoming and Orleans/Niagara CLU's) WUHF The CoolTV
(Monroe/Livingston CLU) Ch 997 (currently also carried on Ch 530).

On or about July 28, 2011, the following channels will be removed:
WNYO The CoolTV (Erie, Genesee/Wyoming and Orleans/Niagara CLU's) WUHF The CoolTV
(Monroe/Livingston CLU) Ch 530 (can be viewed on Ch 997).
WUTV The Country Network (Erie, Genesee/Wyoming and Orleans/Niagara CLU's) Ch 140 (can be viewed on Ch
998).
It's poorly written, but it looks like there will be an overlap period for which Cool TV will appear on both 997 and 530 starting on July 12, and then be phased out from 530 on July 28. Also, that channel will be either fed from WNYO or WUHF, depending on where you live.

Thanks for helping me understand the cool tv move. I just did a channel scan on my den tv because some of the clear qam channels moved & i found Audio from the weather channel on 85-30 but the picture is scrambled so i don't know if it's from the HD channel or the SD channel but i'm guessing it's from the HD channel because the tv says the audio is 5.1.

For the past 2-3 weeks every Friday night starting around 8pm or 9pm when i'm recording travel channel the picture goes to all pixels making the channel not watchable. I've only seen this problem happen on travel channel so does anybody know if tw is not receiving the channel properly during this time or is something else causing the problem.

Any Help would be appreciated.

Update 7/18/2011: I contacted TW & the told me they refreshed the signals going to my box & the recommended i reboot my box.
I noticed last week that some of the TW QAM channels have been changed around a bit. Specifically:

WROC-HD (PSIP 8.1) moved from QAM 93.8 to 86.8
WHAM-HD (PSIP 13.1) moved from QAM 86.2 to 93.2
WHAM-CW (PSIP 13.2) moved from QAM 115.2 to 100.2

There were also some reassignments in some of the other SD channels.

Some sets might have automatically detected these changes (like the changes to WHAM and WROC), and others might not.

Where TW used to have WUHF-HD, WHAM-HD, and WXXI-HD sharing one QAM (not a good thing since they have to do some reduction of bit rate - and it showed {maximum quality is achieved when only 2 HD channels are on one QAM channel) the 3 HD on one QAM is now shared with WUHF-HD, WXXI-HD, and WROC-HD. WHAM-HD gets a quality promotion while WROC gets demoted.

Although it's not the only driver, cost is at least a major one. So when internet providers implement caps (we all know it's gonna happen), the cost advantage may disappear, or at least diminish significantly. It will be interesting to watch.

I think "distressing" would be a better term ("distressing to watch") - particularly when the internet providers also have a vested interest in reducing "cord cutting" (cause, in most cases, it is their cords that are being cut).

Yup. I assume Cable operators with both cable and interenet in their product lineups will protect their vested interest in cable -- or at least make the impact of any cord cutting to be 'choice neutral' for them. For those, such as satellite, without intertnet in their product line, will have no way to make the moves 'choice neutral' and they'll need to have their media delivery product compete on its own.

I concur with that part, but did you get the channels reversed on WROC? It went to 86.8 not from 86.8. Correct?

Even with the WHAM upgrade Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone still looked crappy on my set (though that's been the norm since I've had this Panny 1366*768 plasma: the 720p WHAM and WUHF have, strangely, always looked worse).

And a Q to you: is this 3-channel sharing only the case for QAM users, or will all TWC Rochester users see this? Basically, I'm asking if the std basic cable users use the same channels as QAM users, just with the box doing all the work between?
