The dvr has been increasingly flaky over the last year, but they all seem to be. The problems are missing recordings and requiring hard reboots to get recording functionality back.
I'm running a dual ota tuner with dual cc on a w7 media center pc, but it doesn't seem to be ready for prime time. I went a little low on the pc side, using an e-350, I should have gone with an i3/5 for what I want to do. It gets overwhelmed if I watch something on the tv and use an extender or use 2 extenders at once. Other than that, it's dead quiet, dwarfed by they tuning adapter...
We've had the DVR service when it first came out many years ago (we were testers and were given 2-3 free months). Also had HD DVR since October 2005.
I agree that the DVR service is at its worse the past six months. We had one HD DVR box for six years...it worked well (scientific atlanta) but started having issues so I got a new one.The past 8 months, we have gone through 3 scientific atlanta boxes and two samsungs (we now have a 8240HDC) . We have had two tech visits during that time and the lines and signal in the house have checked out ok.
I have to reboot the box 3x a week..most recently it is the audio cuts in and out every 5-6 seconds on recorded shows. Watching a live show is fine. I have switched the hdmi cable 3x and used three different inputs on my 60" Sony. Its definitely the DVR. After a reboot, the same show that had audio problems plays back fine.
The other boxes had issues that it would miss recordings. Also the software has gotten extremely buggy where it would freeze up....turning it on and off did nothing. Have to unplug it to get it to work again. The samsungs seemed to do that more.
Last box change (six weeks ago) they gave me a months free DVR service. I told my wife at this point, I might look at TIVO if the box doesn't work. This is a crap service that used to be reliable.
I need to bring this box back to Mt Hope (good thing is I work downtown right near there). What box should I insist on? The samsungs seemed to be more buggy than the SA.
