I'll answer part of this: The CableCard has NO tuners! It's only purpose is to decode the bit stream (usually) from a tuner. Most CableCards these days are M-cards (Multistream) and can decode up to 6 channels. The older S-cards could only decode 1 channel.
One specific limitation in most (if not all) applications is that you cannot access ON-demand channels, and unless your application can use a "tuning adapter" you cannot access SDV channels (and TW has lots of those). I understand that some PC applications can drive a tuning adapter, but I don't know which ones (as I am not into that). The real issue with On Demand and with SDV is that the device receiving the material (usually a DVR) must signal back to the cable system exactly what program it wants to watch, the cable system then provides that requested bit stream. But if the receiving device cannot transmit that signal back, then the cable system has no way to know what to send. The tuning adapter was originally developed specifically for TiVo to allow the TiVo to record SDV channels. As far as I know, the tuning adapter DOES NOT WORK FOR ON DEMAND.
