Around 13 games per week in the channel range of 705 to 725. The extra channels are used for showing the same games in HD. The 90's channels are never used.

Until last season that's where the HD games were carried, they just started using the 700's last season. Same transponders/sats etc. just using different virtual channel mappings.

They aren't included unless you convince a CSR otherwise.

The hd package is still free for 3 months for first time subscribers.

I think they are talking about the nfl ticket and no the games will not be in high def on the standard nfl ticket - you have to add the superfan package. This is a ridiculous thing directv started last year, but you can always call in and b-tch until they give it up. Otherwise, the only games that will be in HD will be the games you receive from your local carriers or the Sunday and Monday night games.

Kind of absurd that you pay for nfl ticket and you pay monthly for the HD programs and when they finally come out with something you really want to watch in HD...they charge you more. More incredulous is the way they packaged it as in a "superfan" way if you don't pay attention you don't even realize you are losing all those games in HD.

Well my brand new HD-Tivo is screwing itself up. Tonight, in between flashing to a grey screen and the actual satalite image, it was telling me to insert an access card. After rebooting it, I haven't seen that message, but it DOES continue to flash in and out ever 2 seconds. Funny thing is, if I go directly to the Direct TV menu, it stays ok, until I go to watch either a recording or live TV, which suggests it's a Tivo problem. Also when it does this, it delays remote commands, and even presses some i didn't press.

Has anyone experienced this? Do I need a new unit? That would sense as I've had it about a month, and literally 2 days ago I threw the box it came in away! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Please help, if Tivo doesn't work, neither do I.

i would try a "clear and delete", ken.

you'll lose any season passes and wish lists you have but it's certainly worth a try.

good luck. ;)

I have been a Directv customer for more than 10 years, and currently have been using the HR10-250 with a 60" wega. I have been receiving my local HD using an antenna mounted in my attic.
I recently decided to give my local cable company a try, mostly because of the bundled price, and have a question about the HR10-250.

I need a stb for hd, and thought I could use the HR10-250 for local channels only.
To test this, I removed the satellite inputs from the back of the box. I can receive the local HD signals fine, but I have the annoying "serching for satellite..." message that will not go away.

Anyone know how I can watch local channels only, without the message?

Thanks

Well, today the Tivo was acting normal, except when I tried to set something to record, it asked me to activate the DVR service. So I called support, the guy walked me through doing a system test. The first test failed because it said there was no sat signal(yet we had a picture), the second test succeeded for some reason(not sure what the guy did on his end, if anything). So, rebooted the Tivo, and all was back to normal.

He didn't know what happened, his best guess was that at some point for some reason, it lost the sat signal, and therby went 'nuts', and just needed to be set straight. Whatever the hell that was, I hope it never happens again.

Well, I called the Retention Department today and got the deal for the the HD Tivo. I said that I was considering dropping Sunday ticket and that I'd heard that D* was offering a free HD Tivo for people signing up for the ticket.

She checked my account for a couple of minutes and after putting me on hold for a while, she came back and confirmed that I could get the deal. She even credited the 19.99 S&H charge for keeping me on hold. The deal I got was:

Free HD Tivo
Free install (which includes running a second line)
Sunday ticket (7 payments of 29.85 with FREE SUPERFAN included)

I was very happy to get the SF free because I ended up paying for it last year. My install is for this Sunday, so I'm kind of stoked to say the least.

go in to settings and run the "guided setup" i think it's called. anyway, you'll see an option for "OTA only, no satellite", choose that one and finish the setup.

the wording might be different, strickce, but you'll see what i mean.

the way you have it set up now, it's looking for satellites that you don't want.

Quick question concerning an odd issue that has been happening since finally getting both sat tuners up and working on my HD-TIVO. Usually, I have the ability to toggle between channels that each of the two tuners are tuned to by hitting the LIVE button repeatedly. However, right now, when I hit the live button while watching something, the button appears to be acting like I am hitting the GUIDE button. I hit it once the guide comes up. Hit it again, the guide disappears.

We are subject to the occasional power outage here in my neighborhood, so this is the only guess I have as to what causes this odd behavior to crop up.

I THOUGHT that just going through the entire setup for the box would get thing back to normal, but this time, no dice.

Has anyone had this problem before? Is there any known fix for it? I really miss not being able to buffer two different channels and toggle between them with the live button.

Thanks,
Jeff

I hit the down arrow button to toggle between tuners.

You have to go back to live tv. This happened to me a couple of times and I finally figured it out and remembered since it only happens every once in awhile.
Push the DirecTV button at the top of the remote and select "Watch Live TV" and that should put you back in the right mode. Not sure why it does this, but I don't think it is related to power outages (at least not in my case) probably has something to do with recordings...

Dumb question here - anyone know how to make the folders command work on the Tivo - I just got the 250 and can't figure it out.... thanks!
The 250 doesnt have the folders option.

Well, it's doing all the above again. Called customer support, at first we thought the culprit might be the access card, or the card reader. We put another card in, and it said "You have inserted the wrong card", that seemed to satisfy the customer service lady it wasn't the card reader. So, we got a card from an old reciever, and she activated it. No change at first, but then it started acting normal after reseating it.

So, figuring we were done, hung up on tech support, then it started it after an hour. So, how does one go about getting this thing fixed or replaced? Bought it from New Egg, but can Direct TV do it? Naturally I just threw out the box it came in, but that shouldn't matter. Can they send a new unit, and I'll ship this one to them?

This is unbelievably frustrating, as my my old Tivo never pulled any crap like this in 4 years of use.

i hear they're not asking for the old units back anymore, ken, but if they do, just use the box the new one comes in.

why don't you try the "clear and delete everything" option?

you have nothing to lose.
Well after another hour and a half with tech support(they make you just through their presets hoops everytime you call), they are sending me a new unit. Should be here in three buisness days. The clear and delete wouldn't have solved anything, the tech support guy tried to get me to do that as well. So now I have stuff to watch till it gets here in three days(I will miss Army of Darkness in HD), then I'll ship the old one back to them.
Brett,

MANY thanks! That was the key. Very weird that it requires that particular key sequence to get back the "toggle tuners" functionality.

I'll have to try the down arrow thing to see if that toggles as well. Thanks for the tip.

Regs,
Jeff

They are still asking for the old units back. I have been through 3- HR10-250's in the last few weeks and still get the loud crackling static noise when switching from Tivo to Live TV then all the audio drops out and I have to turn the system off and then back on! What a pice of crap this HR10-250 is! D* claims to have NEVER EVER heard of this problem before and said there are no know issues with the HR10-250! HUH!?!?!?!

With all the stated issues with the HR10-250, the new HD DVR just has to be an improvment, plus MPEG4 capability!!!!!

To the best of my recollection, I have never seen this problem reported before. If I had the identical problem with three different units, and no one else was having the same problem, I'd begin to suspect some other part of the system. Can you borrow a different amplifier to try? Maybe there's something about your amp. and the data coming from the DVR that is causing this.

This sounds like a compatibility problem between the HR10-250 and whatever you are using for audio. There have been problems with audio receivers and any kind of device that switches between audio formats - like PCM stereo and Dolby Digital. To see if this is the problem you could try turning off the 5.1 sound on the Tivo.... If the noises and lock ups go away there is a pretty good chance this is the problem.
