According to ExpressVU program guide, the Washington at Vancouver NHL game tonight at 9pm ET, will be in HD, with experimental testing starting at 8pm. Should be interesting.

Just noticed this meself a few minutes ago. Guess I'll have to give up part
2 of "Haven". Sorry Natasha Richardson hockey in HD takes precedence over even your beautiful self!!! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

It is on ExpressVU channel 285 and is called NHL HDTV Test...so it may be a one time only..but it will be in the clear tonight with no charge.

How are you guys hooked up for expressvu? Are you using a broker like Freeway Support? Do you subscribe to the NHL package?

Yes I use Freeway as my provider and no I do not subscribe to NHL CI
(though I understand one can subscribe through Freeway without necessitating having your phone line hooked up).

Well I don't think the game started until 10:30, maybe it will kick in at that point?!?!?

Nothing on as of 10 Central...but there is some sort of freaky looking
pixelated green screen on channel 285. Maybe they're having technical
problems with the feed.

OK this is weird...they're now showing the game in a 13X7 box with no audio! Video quality is nowhere near HD though...looks upconverted...not worth staying up to watch. Good Night all.....

Guess that's why they were calling it a test....
I checked in on it throughout the night and it looks like the test wasn't very successful. (Or maybe it was, depending on what they were testing for.) At any rate what you saw seemed to vary between black screen, a still photo, highly pixilated and skewed, of the rink, with a nice little ExpressVu logo looking fine in the lower left corner and some other logo in the upper right corner (don't remember what it was, though), and a black screen with a test tone. I didn't stay up late enough to see any of the upconverted video stuff. We can all keep our finger crossed that they were able to get something together with this test and maybe we'll some some more programming in HD on BEV soon!

I had the same reaction, not much to watch but maybe a step towards more sports in HD. I checked again a couple of hours later and I was getting nothing from the satellite, just a blank screen on all channels. When I checked the dish pointing screen, I got the usual signal strength but it said wrong satellite. The dish itself does not seem to have been moved. Anyone else with the same problem?

I've had that problem happen too. In my case I set my dish out only when I'm watching satellite, so I'm always at the satellite locking screen. On rare occasion a signal might respond but say wrong satellite. I found changing to transponder 11 will lock it in. It may be that you simply need to change to any transponder to wake things up.

Has anyone tried to contact expressvu to see if they had any info? I tried to call last night but could not get passed a busy signal. I am going to try today, but wanted to see fi anyone else had heard anything.

Thanks everybody for your advice. I called freewaysupport and they told me how to reset the tuner and it fixed it. To reset it you turn it off at the reciever (not by remote), then unplug it and remove smartcard. You the plug it back in, turn it on and insert the smart card when prompted by an on screen message. Back to the main topic. I remember reading that people in the NHL hoped that HDTV would make the game more popular on TV. Maybe this is a rudimentary start of the NHL in high def.

Roy,

Look at your transponder on the pointing screen. When I got this message, my transponder showed "4" ( no signal, wrong satellite ). I changed to transponder 17 and poof, expressvu locked and picture was fine. I don't know how or why this occured, but it may help you in this case.

For folks that use BEV in the US, in a separate thread under this section, I expressed my concern over the wide spread info exchange regarding BEV in the US. I beleive it is in the best of our interest to keep the info within the community, through some typ of private exchange. Any prospective user may post questions but existing users should try to respond in private.

Like DFAST, BEV can be under pressure from some powerful US institutions to shut down this type of service if everyone is using it.

And here this note turned out to be my 400th post on AVS, I hope this note is worthy of its special place in my AVS book http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Canucks were at home again tonight, anything as far as HDTV testing? Does the expressvu guide go out far enough to look at wed game? I am pretty sure it would have been posted, but am debating getting expressvu so I am really interested in this.
