BUMPING

Thread Starter
We have a lot of new people on the HDTV forums and lately I have been noticing that people want to "bump" their thread back to the top.
I find this very annoying. I have no desire to re-read a thread that has no new content.
I can asure the "bumpers" that if the thread is interesting and has merit, people will reply. If not, let the thread die.
It seems that most people have enough courtesy not to post the same subject twice, but the "bump"(I think this was also a dance in the 70's) is almost the same thing.

baimo,
I see what you are saying, but if you do not want to read the same post twice, just don't click on the post. I have bumped two of my threads that did not get a reply in two days. After I bumped it, it now has about 25 posts. Sometimes the post is just posted at the wrong time.

I am, admittedly, guilty of bumping up my request for signers of my petition to the local CBS affiliate. They are not passing the HDTV signal through to us. My bump got a few more people's attention, and we are able to get more momentum for the petition. Sorry for the noise to others. If it says "CBS HDTV in Phoenix" in the subject and you do not live in Phoenix, do not watch CBS, have already read the post, or don't have HDTV, please ignore...

There are times when it is appropriate and there are times when it is not. It just seems to be happening more often.

The point is that I do want to read the thread if it includes new posts. However when a thread gets bumped, the only way to tell if there is a new post available is by opening the thread.

Sorry for the lecture. My daughter is getting to me today. This only HT http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

This is an important issue that I think everyone should see so I'm just bumping this to the top.

I dont necessarily have a problem with bumping but what get me sometimes is how the same questions get asked over and over again. I wish people would learn to use the search function a little more. 90% of all the questions asked have already been answered several times over in previous threads.

I guess it's just "easier" to ask a question for the hundredth time than to go look into the search feature.

Baimo,

You want to know what items bother me? Well I am glad you asked.

1. False names or "Handles" - what's wrong with using your name?

2. No Name at bottom of post - what do we call you? At least sign your post with your first name.

3. No Town and State - ever notice that these people always have a problem with HD OTA.
