Sacramento, CA - OTA - Page 36

No reception.

Soft Repower STB; no reception.

Hard Repower STB w/boot; worked, but soon as channel is changed and tempt to return no reception.

Re-scan OTA; signals validated and confirmed for 10.1 (94/100) and 10.2 (95/100), no reception.

Any ideas?

Soft Repower STB repeat; no reception.

Hard Repower STB w/boot repeat; worked, but soon as channel is changed and tempt to return no reception.

ideas...?

Dave, did you get an antenna in the attic to work? I have purchased a Lst-4200a and have not decided on which antenna, strongly considering a Channel Master 4228, would just fit with a bit of room in attic.

My wife is watching One Life To Live on 10.1 right now, so I can confirm that it is on the air. As for why you're having trouble receiving it, I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that. However, there are several engineering folks from KXTV who frequent this forum, and perhaps they can shed some light on it (I'm sure if you just wait a bit, they'll chime in).

Gamecorps,
We had to switch the install to this Saturday. I have a CM 4221 being delivered on Thursday and I'll let you know if it worked in the attic. She is on one of the hills in Sun City and I am hoping it works in the attic since she doesn't want the problems with the HOA with an antenna outside (even though the FCC says she can have it!). I'll let you know.

Dave

PS I am in Vacaville and am the same distance as Lincoln from the towers in Walnut grove according to antennaweb.org and I use a 4221 mounted outside with no problems at all. I haven't tried in my attic since it was actually easier to mount it on the chimney.

My STB requires a SW upgrade.

Temporary fix required station to reinstate program channel paradigms returning to standard schema.

Motorola VOOM STBs SWv 7.34 may correct the issue. I'm presently operating on SWv 7.33 and not targeted as of yet.

A couple of Sacramento HDTV questions please -

1) Will the Comcast (non-KXTV) HD Kings games be broadcast on DirectTv or OTA?

2) When KOVR messes up the audio, like they have been doing lately, is there a number we can call?

Thanks!

Steve

did anyone else have any audio problems with UPN's Veronica Mars tonight on channel 31. I recently bought a samsung SIR-T451 to replace an older model with audio problems and just want to make sure its the station and not my new STB.

Nope. Comcast is holding the Comcast Sports Net HD games very closely, and isn't going to offer them for quite some time to either sat provider. Not sure if they will provide them to Surewest once their HD offering is up, or Starstream (Rockin) cable systems.
I have Comcast in Vacaville, and the Kings games aren't available here in HD, just in SD on channel 68 (comcast sports net). We also don't have any locals available over Comcast. I have a LG3410-A and am able to get any HD channel that they send over cable that isn't scrambled. In my case, I get ESPN-HD, SHOWTIME HD and HBO-HD (west), as well as NBC-11 out of San Jose. The funny thing is, with a Comcast HD Box (which I had for 1 weekend), you only get ESPN-HD, Show and HBO. To get their INHD channels, you need to pay another $9.95 per month in addition to the $5.00 per month rental of the STB. It wasn't worth it to me. Now once the Kings games are offered in HD here, then maybe it would be worth it.

I don't think that's the case, the real reason is that the sat providers don't have the capacity to accommodate local sports nets yet.

I've noticed 6-2 suffering numerous audio dropouts, coupled with video "stuttering." Is it my reception, or are others having a similar problem?
With all the problems at the transmission tower, more at the digital signal end than analogs, I can honestly say Comcast finally comes through. Not only do we finally get to see a nearly perfect broadcast of HD Kings game last night, I also did not notice any outage of the local HD signals on Comcast. IF only they can put on CBS, UPN and even WB, with the HDDVR capability, I can not imagine why anyone would not consider cable, unless you are not using any pay-TV services right now and refuse to pay for watching TV or can't get cable.

"I can not imagine why anyone would not consider cable"

Two reasons -

1) HD Tivo
2) Blood Feud w/ Comcast (ie moral reasons)

Don't assume that's what's available in your Comcast area is available everywhere. In Tracy, we don't have the HDDVR, and we certainly don't have the full slate of 7 HD networks. (I assume the Comcast HD-DVR won't record OTA ??)

The HD-Tivo, coupled with the effortless (at my location) reception of 7 OTA HD networks means I have absolutely no interest in cable at all.

I experienced drops on digital KVIE, KMAX, KXTV. I would like to attributed it to atmospheric particulates since moisture is quite high. There does seem to be a certain amount of flux in the signals.

I have been noticing, on 6.3 and 6.4, popping on L R channels. Fairly annoying.

What kind of audio problems? OK at the studio.

I thought I have mentioned, but may be not emphasized, as a King's fan and with the 6412 HDDVR available at $10/mo. vs. $900 then $5/mo. for the HD Tivo. In addition I get $25 off of Comcast bill each month for 16 months as a previous DBS sub. CBS and UPN will be carried on Comcast soon. I still have my DTC100 and 811 connected to my OTA antenna just in case, but have not used them since I got my 6412 two weeks ago.

I know HD Tivo is great, but I'd rather use the extra $1,000 to upgrade my next HDTV display and live with the 6412.

Hey, jacmyoung, if Comcast works for you, that's great. I was just responding to your comment about why someone would not consider cable. Not everyone has the same availability of cable toys. There are certainly some Comcast areas that are way behind the technology curve, and I live in one of them. That's why someone would not consider moving to cable!!!

If I lived in Sacramento I would probably be a Comcast subscriber, since I am a Giants, Sharks and Kings fan, and Comcast would give me those HD games. But I am stuck with Starstream, which has 8 HD channels: KCRA, KTXL, KQCA, KMAX, ESPN, Discovery, HBO and Showtime. With DirecTv and my attic antenna I get all of those channels and more: KXTV, KOVR, and KVIE - all 3 of which have some great HD content.

So for me, cable isn't really an option at this point.

UPN cancelled Enterprise today. With apologies to Bob Hess, that was the only show I watched on KMAX. Without the Kings and Enterprise, that channel might as well be removed from my menu.
Damn!

Same goes here Bob. Sorry.

What was Enterprise's overall share?
I was wondering why only the front spots were the only ones loaded.
The same promo spots just kept looping.
UPN is going to have to really re-work content to get those numbers up.
The new sampling for viewership has also impacted the numbers as well.
UPN still has me for Veronica Mars - but that's it.
Can anyone confirm that the Super Bowl will be in HD on Fox 40.1?
Enterprise was ranked somewhere around a 2.0 share and was 108th in last weeks ratings out of about 120 shows I believe. I was a big Star Trek fan, but Enterprise lost me in Season 2. I guess this year has been going well (as far as the story lines go), but I think they lost most of their audience before they decided to get serious. I will review the DVD's for The Spot to see if they show got any better.

I'm not sure how to describe it but it seemed like the audio would just stop for less than a second then come right back in sync with the video but with a slight pop right when it came back. It mostly did this during commercial but toward the end of the show it started happening during the show. I will check out the other TV's in the house if it happens again next week.

You were lecturing me not to make assumptions, I was trying to explain I did not but may be I was not clear on my Comcast area, no hard feelings.

I am an OTA user too, after experiencing many outages due to the lack of power backup on the OTA digital broadcast, I begain to rely more on cable. Never thought cable is the more reliable one before.

I'm normally a Comcast HD viewer, but I'm setting up an OTA setup for the superbowl this weekend at a facility with no cable. I built a PC with a USB HD Tuner. Works great! now the question -

Are frequent video pauses normal OTA? I was just testing tonite - not much HD to pick up, but even straight digital was doing it - 55 (Raymond) paused a lot. KVIE was really bad - video froze, audio kept going.

I'm using just a cheezy antenna that comes with the ATI HD Wonder card. The software app says approx 30dB signal strength. I'm in Folsom. If I can find the key to the roof ladder, I can get the antenna up even higher, with almost direct line of site to the towers - would that help?

Is there a way to check the S/N on your PC? I don't know what 30DB strength means, usually the digital signal quality is measure by a signal to noise ratio. Why not buy a box from Walmart and check out the signals, if it does not work you can return it.
