Can you do anything to avoid the 16:9 program squished into 4:3? It looks terrible.

I am forwarding your comments to the CW. We will see what can be done. It is not originating at our place.

If you receive the material in 16:9 squished to 4:3, would you be able to broadcast it stretched back to 16:9 ? I could just do on the same thing with my own TV settings, but it would be great if it was broadcast this way from the get go. At least this way we are getting the original picture and not something chopped down (or broadcasted squished)

I have to see this with my own eyes. Can't believe it is being aired that way. I will look into it.

Just to let everyone know, yesterday we made some changes at both the studio end of the link and at the Walnut Grove end of the link. These are changes that have been in the mix for a while, just waiting for the right weather and availability of tower riggers. Frankly, I will be surprised if we see improvement, but consultants have proved me wrong in the past.

As I commented (perhaps on another forum and not this one) we just do not know if a step we make works until we wait and see. It is not an exact science. We have several more options available to us.

I know this does not help the readers of this forum, but remember that we took care of most of our viewers when we bought all of the fiber equipment to get Comcast and Charter off of our off-air feed. It may not sound like it, but that was a major political and financial undertaking on the part of all parties, since there is the matter of a river between our studio and Comcast territory.

Now, the remaining complaints are mostly from DirecTV viewers. With that system, when we take a fade that lasts a few seconds, their receiver locks up, sometimes for hours, until someone notices the problem.

Again, and as hard as it may be for some of you to believe, we are working on, and will fix, the problem.

I see that the "Crystal Darkness" campaign is going to air on most of our local channels this coming Wednesday. My Tivo guide doesn't show any of the local channels as broadcasting this in HD.

As we have engineers from several of our locals in this forum, I thought it would be a good place to ask, "Are we going to see this in HD?" Probably not something that a lot of people want to see in HDTV, but I would greatly appreciate having a copy of it in HD, as it relates to my job.

I'm not even sure if this is available in HD, but would be great to see it that way.

Has anyone else lost the program guide info for KVIE? I have Dish with an OTA and it is now showing Local Digital. Just noticed it today.

Bob,
Can you do anything about the blue line down the left edge of some 4x3 content on 13.1 and 31.1, and why is it even there?
Thanks

I recently replaced my CM 4221 rooftop antenna with a CM 4228 and I finally get full signal strength on all of my channels. Of course now I have a new problem, which I don't think is related to the new antenna...

This just started happening last Thursday:

When I tune to KVIE primary (1061) my Vista Media Center can't tune it in. But if I go to the secondary KVIE channel (1062) it tunes in immediately, and then if I channel-down 1061 tunes in just fine. It does the exact same thing with KXTV (1101 & 1102). It does not do this with KCRA (1031 & 1032) or any of the other channels with secondary channels (I know my terminology is imperfect here...). Just KVIE and KXTV. If I go to the signal meter in Vista Media Center every single channel that I have selected shows with full signal strength (5 bars I think), except KVIE 1 and KXTV 1 both show 1 red bar. If I try to record anything on either of those channels, and I do record several shows on both, I get a message saying it couldn't tune it in.

Has anyone seen this before? I did do the service pack 1 update last week, which fixed a couple things for me, but I'm not sure if that's what created this new problem or not... By the way, I have two HD tuners, and when I run the software for them, I can tune to both channels just fine with no lag. I've tried re-establishing the connection to the tuners, I uninstalled and then reinstalled the drivers for the tuners, I re-setup the guide, I don't know what else to try... Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks!

Eddie

I suddenly have the same VMC problem, except the 1062/1102 thing didn't work for me. It must have something to do with VMC and the stations PSIP info. Manually adding channels 1531 and 1611 won't work either, although they work on my Sony TV set (including 6.1 and 10.1 remapping).

For the time being I will avoid recording those two channels in Vista Media Center. Luckily Comcast dual HD-DVR can carry the extra load.

Cold Case on 13.1 started out ok, but is now unwatchable.

It is extremely bad. Probably some of the worst I've seen yet.

That blue line is caused by a problem with the satellite receivers that are used to distribute material by Global Digital Media Exchange (GDMX). It can be eliminated by changing the video settings in the receiver to 704x480, then back to 720x480. Why that works, I don't know -- but it does!

Which receiver are you talking about. I use the OTA tuners built-in on my TVs. None have resolution settings.

He is talking about a receiver at the station.

Yeah, sorry for the confusion. Like Rory said, I'm talking about the satellite receivers that the stations have for receiving programming from a specific provider -- usually it's "same-day" programming like "Access Hollywood" or "TMZ." In my travels to various cities, I see this blue line all the time, so it does not seem to be well-known that there is a simple fix for it.

For those wondering what we're talking about, check out the image below. I just captured this from KCRA -- I assume this is the same problem you're seeing on some KOVR programs:

Eddie, I am having the same problem on my Vista Media Center with channel 6 and 10. I too just downloaded SP1 so it could be related. I haven't found a fix for it yet.

I followed Trip's advice in this reply and got everything working again last night. I'm still not quite sure how this fixed things, and I did have to change my tuners around a bit (I actually have the two HD internal tuners plus an HDHomeRun with 2 tuners, and I switch between them when things stop working) so I'm not sure what fixed the issue, but it's certainly worth a try... This post in particular seemed to provide the crucial instructions I needed...

KOVR-13 is very bad today with audio/video breakup every few seconds. This is with Directv.

Bob,

Watched 13 from 7:00-8:30 and 9:00-10:00. No problems to report. The test is tonight during the series finale of Jericho.

KOVR back to normal this morning on D*.

Using some of the aforementioned info for OTA Vista Media Center here is an update of my experience.

I noticed this morning that now channel 40, along with 13, and 6 are listed incorrectly. Here is how I fixed error:

1. Vista Media Center is shut down.
2. Navigate to: C:\\ProgramData\\Microsoft\\eHome\\EPG\\prefs\\atscchannels. xml and open the file in your text editor.
3. Delete the following incorrect lines:

4. Save changes
5. Open VMC and navigate to Settings, TV, Guide, Add Missing Channels
6. Add the three channels back as:
6.1 > 53 > KVIE-DT
10.1 > 61 > KXTV-DT
40.1 > 55 > KTXL-DT
Press Done to save
7. That's it. All fixed. A new file, "atscprefs.xml" was created which contains the changes. These changes override future incorrect guide updates for those three channels.

Here's what my atscprefs.xml looks like:

Unfortunately, it would seem unlikely. The copy of this that we received is on Betacam SP (ie: analog SD).
