*OFFICIAL* Infocus Screeplay 4805 thread - Page 32

Temper and anxiety? Nah ... just expectation exhaustion.

The denver shootout 4805 results haven't been posted yet, but I'm guessing the gist of it will be "not so much a 4800 upgrade than a lower resolution 7205." Yum!

24 hours to go and I'm just now gearing myself up for a visit to the paint store.

Mupi, Why don't you do it the other way? Get the claim-to-be-authorized dealer to contact Infocus to put them on the authorized dealers list. Just tell them that there will be a negative impact on sales if they are not recognized on Infocus official site.

There is more at stake for the dealer than Infocus so IMO it'd be more effective trying to get the dealer to act.

... all the Xfile/tinfoil hat stuff.
Oh yeah! Before these things arrive we should we should at least touch on this.
The dearth of true Tin-Foil makes hat construction difficult. However I've had good luck with some of the aluminum varieties.
My "Reynolds Wrap Beanie" really makes projected colors snap and helps eliminate post-screen-sheen (when used with higher gain screens).
I'll try and post some pics of it this week.
Oops! I suppose this belongs in the DIY forum.

hehe good stuff LARUE.

But seriously, can't wait to hear from the folks who are lucky enough to get theirs this week. I look forward to the insight they can provide.

Its kinda scarry spending money on somthing virtually sight unseen, however, most dealers are very fair and do offer some sort of unconditional guarentee.

Just a quick one, where can I find a ND2 lens for the 4805, and what am I looking for as far as price?!
I use http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...arch&Q=&ci=114
since the local camera stores often lack stock (but I use a lot of filters). I like the Hoya ND2 HMC - but I would wait until someone gets the projector to find out what lens size fits - the lens design changed somewhat from the SP4800 (moving it into case away from exhaust)

I have one customer that is a photography nut - he says these $30 filters are junk and to get the $300 filters....

I just bought one from local camera store for 15 bucks. It is 62 mm and it fits well on X1 but may not on 4805. People suggested using polarizers to eliminate the brightness nonuniformity on x1. I tried but it didnt make a difference. So I bought a ND2 filter which is not very expensive. It cuts a lot of brightness. It is not supposed to change the color. I am not all that picky about color. So I didnt notice a big difference in color. All I care is to cut the brightness and improve contrast.

Here's a good Dalite surface that should hv a low cost.

"High Contrast Da-Mat"
So now I'm confused again :) I'm ordering my 4805 soon and I want to order screen fabric as well. The 4805 will be in my livingroom, which can be darkened, but I want to be able to watch sports as well in a room that's not totally dark. The screen size I want would be between 90" and 100" (probably 90). So, my question is: Should I go for the High Contrast Da-Matte or the High Contrast Cinema Visions?
Somewhat off topic, but would any of the experts here care to comment on this thread I started in the theatre building forum?

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=412177

I'm 99% certain I'll go with the 4805. This will be my first projector, and also first time surround sound installation.

Your suggestions/comments are most welcome. As you can see my room is far from ideal, but hopefully it will work out ok.

Cheers,
Samplehead

That's what I originally thought too but Bob Williams said they just changed the front grill, apparently making it deeper, which is why the lens appears different. But I believe it is the same lens, and therefore the same filter size.

KvB - in your case I would go for some gain - which is the High Contrast CinemaVision. But if you want Plasma TV brightness - go for High Power or Pearlescent.

Phreak.
Spoken words of wisdom, people here swear by it, and how it will blow away this PJ and it will look better than that PJ, etc.
What mods could do is start a new thread called "official 4805 first impressions thread" and evryone can start ignoring this one, even though it would still be very hype based, at least we could start reading from people who have actually seen it.
Yup. Pretty soon the 4805 threads will outnumber the Z2 vertical banding threads. Outrageous.

Wow, this is harder then I thought.

1. Why wouldn't I want Plasma tv brightness? Plasma tv brightness would be just as bright as I'm used to right now with a regular tv right?

2. What's the difference between High Power and Pearlescent? And which one would be the cheapest?

Thanks.

KvB

I would go with the Cinemavision... The non high contrast one... Gain of 1.3 vs the 1.1 on the High Contrast Cinema Vision. Same Viewing Cone..

Best if you can see them yourself and decide..

Hey, I'm a newbie, too, but I can answer this one. The screens don't create more light, they just reflect it. In order to increase the brightness (gain) of the reflected image, they must concentrate it into a narrower viewing angle. if you want a screen that is as bright as possible, you will need to sit right in the center of it to see it. Go to Best Buy and look at some of the LCD rear-projection sets to get an idea of what a reduced viewing angle can look like.

Thanks Mupi, Kras, and Tech for the info. I think I'll try the local camera store for this filter. If they don't have that Hoya one, what should I be asking the clerk for as far as the technical name and specs?!
Here is hoping I hear good news from TV***** about my preorder today. Has anyone else besides C******* shipped any of these babies yet?
Just checked my credit card and no authorizations yet, so it hasn't shipped for me. *sigh*

About screens, this is only somewhat relevent but here we go anyway..

I have asharp Z90u which is rated at 600 video lumens (similar to 4805), I also have a 80X45 high power screen & a 72x40.5 blackout cloth screen. The high power is amazing, I can turn all my lights up full (4x100w downlighters & 4 60w sconces) and it still looks bright like a big plasma, it is great if you are having buddies over to watch sports & don't want to sit in the dark, if I am watching a movie in the dark it is too bright in normal mode, but I have a setting with the brightness dropped down about 20 notches (the sharp has 5 memories for settings so I can switch between easily) and it is great for watching movies. In fact the only time I use the blackout cloth screen anymore is if we have a full house with people sitting a wider angles as with low gain screens (e.g. blackout cloth screens) you can be at a much wider angle & still not suffer to much, I have watched the black out screen from probably 60 deg plus angles & it still looks good. Anything outside of about 30 deg with the high power is too much loss of brighness, everything looks dull.

So basically if you are going to generally watch from with in that 30deg cone I couldn't recommend the high power enough, if not go with a lower gain.

My personal opinion is that the high power is a huge upgrade from the blackout cloth screen.

It's here! I can hardly believe I'm actually holding the box. Looks like I'll be cancelling this evening's dinner plans! I have got some setting up to do!
guess we will start seing reviews soon then if the first batch has come out to people, hope you realize that getting it first means you have to review ;)

So that I don't break any rules. Are we allowed to post links to websites that are selling the 4805?

Thanks,
Dennis

I'd like quick opinions on...

1. Fan Noise
2. SDE
3. Pic Quality (including black levels)

Thanks!

I don't think so.

Good God man, how were you able to pull that off being on the furthest flung outpost of "The Great White North", "The Rock" ? I can't get even a response, even from a dealer, here in the heartland of Canada. Don't tell me you and I are the only Canucks to have even heard of the 4805 !

erikuva,

Well? :)

Looking forward to your observations.

Just got of an e-chat with a TVA**** rep. They said that the owners of the company have a meeting with Infocus today. I would love to hear that conversation. ;)

Certainly not! I'm also on "The Rock" and awaiting the results of the many H30 vs. 4805 shootouts that should be coming soon. It's less painful since I still have some gyprocking and painting to do before my room will be ready :-)
