true ;-)

I'm refering to the Motorola and Scientific Atlanta cable boxes that allow firewire control/streaming.

So, I used PRM based on a suggestion above on one of my files.

I was able to load it up in Videoredoplus but after a few seconds I get the message "Video Thread: Video Dimensions Change" and then videoredoplus crashes!

I think what happened was I started recording before selecting the file for playback (so, it recorded a bit of normal tv). That change point is what is causing a problem. I can't recapture it via firewire because I deleted it off my 6412 already.

The other error code I am getting with another video file is that it is saying "unable to open <<then the file name>> No data found for requested program(s)"
I tried converting it/fixing it with PRM and MPEG2REPAIR but it didn't help.

I also tried converting using HDTV2MPEG but the problem was that the converted file was just a blank, empty mpeg...

Hi, I have been able to get this working with a Motorola DCT-6412. However, I am only getting video - not audio. Any idea what I've done wrong? Thanks!

I have tried all sorts before this, and nothing worked.

I've got a 3250HD with firewire and WinXP, but I'm not seeing a DVHS entry under Panasonic. I'm seeing:

Panasonic Digital Tuner AV/C Device (TU-BHD100)
Panasonic Tuner AV/C Device
Panasonic Tuner AV/C Device (NV-DH1)
Panasonic Tuner AV/C Device (NV-DHE10)
Panasonic Tuner AV/C Device (NV-HDR1000)

Should I use one of them? Any ideas why I'm not seeing DVHS as an option?

have you tried using the installer from

I actually posted the drivers a while back that are included in the install.

I am using Sonic's Video and Audio decoders. Do you know what decoder is being used?

Are you installing the driver on the panel device instead of the tuner becuase I get that error if I select the panel device in capdvhs instead of the tuner device.

Agree. This is a playback issue and likely related to codecs. The Decoder Check utility from Microsoft will at least show what video decoders are installed in your system. I'm using Nvidia PureVideo successfully.

Digital Video Station MVS-500
mitinc

I can't post links yet as I'm very new here. But a search on those key words will show the STB that I'm looking into.

Has anyone successfully used this to get streams from Dishnet or Adelphia HD Digital cable to Windows XP using 1394??

Would it work??

Thanks much,

I'm getting inconsistent results capturing with CapDVHS. I have to run MPEG2Repair before VideoRedo or HDTV2DVD will open the file. Sometimes I can't open it even after repairing. However I can almost always view the file in VLC Media Player or sometimes HDTV2Mpeg will open it. Any suggestions?

I saw someone talking about PRM is that another mpeg repair program?

Also is there a walkthrough anywhere for capturing transport streams using VLC Media player?

I tried to search for the above before asking without luck...

Do you have an AC3 codec installed? How are you testing to see if you have audio or not?

problem solved.

Take the instructions literally. I was using "browse" to find the path to the driver files. I had to *type* the path into the Have Disk dialog, rather than browsing to the path.

Sigh. There's two hours I'll never get back

ok, so do you have the exact name of the driver we should be looking for to manually input it.

it finds the meidvhs driver and installs it fine

its when you get to the "all devices" and then "panasonic" where i can't find the proper one listed.

thanks

hello I just got my 3250HD today and I am very mad at charter because they disabled the DVI on the box, but any way I deiced I should just use firewire so I found this forum and followed the directions and everything looked like it was working until I got to the point were I had to record with capDVHS I will open the program then go to data info and hit record and nothing happens excpet for numbers moving on the bottom of the app but not the size or bit rate or any of the stuff in the app. then i will try to play the .ts it made with VLC and it does nothing. I can not watch HDTV live with VLC either. any help would be great! thanks

Ok, so I tinkered and tinkered, but I can't record a valid stream, even from local channels. I've got Comcast with a Motorola 6412 PVR. I'm in Sunnyvale, CA.

I have everything set up correctly as far as I can tell. I've selected Panasonic D-VHS in the device driver and CapDVHS sees the device correctly. When I try to record, it never updates the Data info tab in CapDVHS with stream properties.

Also, I can't play back the files it generates. The files grow as if it's recording (it saves around 2MB/s), but the file is not playable with any players I tried.

I've got a Motorola 6412 box with platform build version 12.13 (May 3 2005)

Looking at the Diagnostic screen of the PVR (pwr - ok) and under Interface Status (menu d11), I see the 1384 I/O device shows:

Active ports; 1
DataXmission: YES
5C Implementation: 0
Loop Status: No
Root Status: YES
Cycle Master Status: YES

Is it true that if the "5C Implementation" is 0, then the stream is unencrypted?

A friend of mine says what I'm seeing is a symptom of encrypted material. I've only attempted to record my local channels, but no dice. Why would my local channels be encrypted?

Does this mean I'm SOL?

Thanks for any advice.

Regards,

You don't want HDTV to be analog. That is what it used to be

so if HDTV is digital that does not explain why I can capture my local HDTV channels.

Is it true that if the "5C Implementation" is 0, then the stream is unencrypted?

I'm in San Jose CA. I subscribed to Comcast Oct15 and until the end of November I was able to capture INHD1, INHD2, HDHBO and all the locals. Now only the locals work for me.

A 5C Implementation value of 0 on the channel indicates the channel can be copied freely.

I want to be able to transfer the files to a DVD. What is the best way of doing that. I have a 2 hours program and it comes out being 7 gigs of space. I want to be able to burning it to a regular DVD not a DL. Can you tell me what tools to use to do that?
HDTV2DVD is a new freeware tool to simply convert your HDTV material to DVD. HDTV captures are MPEG-2 Transport Streams at either 1280 x 720p or 1920 x 1080i resolution yet DVD is typically MPEG-2 Program Streams at 720 x 480 (for NTSC). This means that to play HD material on a "normal" DVD player you have to convert the source. This is what HDTV2DVD does in a simple, user friendly way.

Load up your HDTV file (.ts or .tp), start the processing and HDTV2DVD will produce a VIDEO_TS DVD folder ready for you to burn!

I purchased a Motorola Dct 6412/2000 my cable provider says it is the wrong frequency and won't activate it... is this true or are they just lying to me cause they want to force me to purchase a new receiver through them at their outragous price? I hooked the receiver all up and I can view about have of the cable channels with out the receiver being activate with my cable provider... so the receiver must work if I get some channels coming through!??.. I purchased another receiver before this through my cable provider and it is a Dct 6412/2000 and they activated it no problem cause its their own receiver.... I purchased this new receiver privately..and is the exact same model Dct 6412/2000 as the one I purchased through my cable provider.. and they say they can't activate it??? Hmm... Is it true their are different frequency with in the same model of receiver Dct 6412/2000 ?? If so.. is their settings or way to change the frequency in a Dct 6412/2000 to make it compatible to the correct frequency of my cable provider??

If your cable provider only has the headend equipment for Sientific Atlanta. they will not be able to communicate with the box to authorize channels, map channels, download guide, etc.
If you read he said he purchased one directly from them, thus unless he lives in Houston, where it supports both SA and Motorola, but TWC doesn't sell their boxes (so obviously he's not there) that isn't the issue.

As he doesn't tell us what market he's in or who his provider is, it hard to tell - but odds are 99% that the frequency excuse is bunk.

Cable Channels are standardized on frequency. Motorola uses the same encryption on their boxes. There is a chart on the Cisco website that has the cable frequencies for each channel (Analog/Digital/QAM) if you are interested.

Now, obviously they would have to to authorize the box to work on their network - changing it from a different network - which is most likely the rub.
