How to record via IEEE 1394 (Firewire) to Windows XP - Page 92

Anyone here use CapDHVS (or something else) to schedule recordings and record from different channels?

I mean, say you schedule two recordings, one is on channel 300 the other on 301. I need to be able to say at 11:55am change to channel 300 the record until 1:05pm. then at 4:25pm change to channel 301 and record until 5:05pm. etc

Anyone know how to do this?

setup a 'watch timer' on your STB to change the channel.
setup capdvhs timer recording as usual.
there's also a command-line app in the mce tools to change channel. you can try using that inside a windows scheduled task to change channel.

Hi, sorry if this is annoying, but I have the Motorolla DCT6416 III from Cox, and I have the firewire cable connected from the back of the unit to my computer. Now, according to these directions, it should pop up and say "Found New Hardware" and I'm to go from there, but it doesn't say "Found New Hardware". I'm using Windows MCE 2005, is there any way to do this manually so it works? Does anyone have a solution? Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks!

I'm with Cox in southeast Louisiana and have looked into it extensively. I also have the same STB. The upshot is that Cox in this area has *no* firewire enabled boxes, so, if you're in the same area, I'm afraid you're out of luck as far as Firewire goes. I'm using a capture card with component and s-video inputs to record. Unfortunately, the card will not record HD via the component inputs. I still have yet to record the HD via the s-video input and burn to DVD to check quality on a large screen TV (37").

I figured it out- the problem was with my firewire card. I have the DVR connected now, all I have to do now is try to figure out how I can transfer my already recorded programs to my PC. (I'm in CT, by the way )

Hi guys:

I am currently trying to record FIFA World Cup games from my Motorola 6412 to my PC.

The material off of my cable provider (Shaw) is taken at 1080i (From TSN HD and Sportsnet HD).

I am using CapDVHS to copy the .ts (transport stream) from the motorola box to my PC. The transferred .ts video plays smoothly on my PC with no visual or frame issues.

When I used Nero Vision Express (in Nero Suite 7) to burn a game, the close-ups, still action looks great, but the action sequences are jerky (e.g. when the players run or the ball moves quickly) and there is a lot of misquito noise around the ball.

The original .ts stream on my PC looks fine, so I know the problem has something to do with the encoding process when the 1080i stream is changed to 480i by
NVE.

I then tried using HDTV2DVD to do the encoding (of the .ts stream to DVD), and while it eliminated most of the mosquito noise, the video was still really jerkly when there is a lot of movement on screen.

1)
Anyone know an encoder (or simple process) I can use to eliminate this problem?
I gather the problem seems to be with redudant frames in the 1080i material to inverse the interlacing to reclaim the film frames or something like that.

The quality of the soccer games (converted from .ts) is ruined by the jerkiness.

2)
Anyone know a .ts audio repair tool that can (Safely) work with .ts streams taken from a 6412 box (for slight audio irregularities).

Thanks

JC

Check out my comments in http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=687192 where i mentioned how to write a script to make 1080i into anamorphic 480p for DVD authoring.

While I do use Womble Video wizard DVD to edit out my commercials (And to seperate the game into 4 parts:
-Intro
-First Half
-2nd Half
-Postgame

I was hoping for some sort of encoder that could do steps 2-4 automatically:

2) Use DGIndex to create d2v project and demux AC3/MPA audio/etc
3) Use Avisynth with appropriate script (drop fields, drop fields + decimate for 24p stuff, resize, etc) to create encode-ready 720x480 (anamorphic, if 16:9 content) video source
4) Encode the resulting AVS using your favorite MPEG2 encoder

to make it easier and faster (e.g. a few less steps).

Avisynth in particular seems a bit hard to use...

[Thanks for the link btw!]

Help!

I have a Motorola 6412 from CableOne, a Zonet 3+1 Firewire card, a 25 ft. Firewire cable, and nothing will work.

The 1394 net adapter has the Code 10 error, as does the 61883 Class Bus Device. My tuner's showing up as an Unknown device, and none of the drivers will install. I'm running XP SP2 with no media, which means the FiresTB won't even install. My motherboard's a slightly aged Gigabye GA-7VA-C, and it's been flashed to its maximum, but I've moved the card around between two PCI slots and it doesn't do a damn thing.

Have I wasted $40? Should I just shell out $100 at my local Wal-mart for a DVD Recorder (that supports DVD+RWs)? Am I going crazy for no reason? Please help!

i use windows task scheduler to run channel.exe and even open CapDVHS prior to recording.

this is an example of my channel change task for changing to 778

Run : "C:\\Program Files\\Timmmoore\\MCE 2005 STB Controller\\channel.exe" 2 778

I usually schedule capdvhs to be opened prior to recording...rather than letting it run in the background all the time...for me this was more reliable.

if you use this method you will want to check:

Does not "Video Power Off" at reserve

in CapDVHS Settings Tab

Update: Well, the Net Driver issue was an easy enough fix...all I needed was a different Firewire card. But even with the card switched out, the 6412 still shows up as an Unknown device and will not install the drivers.

I'm really getting annoyed at the situation here, so would someone please help me before I destroy something in a fit of stupid rage?
It took me a few tries too.
The trick is to CANCEL the first driver it wants to install.
Then install the 2nd.
Then CANCEL the 3rd.
THEN go to the Device Manager and DISABLE the 2 "unknown" devices. Do this BEFORE you reboot!!

Basically follow the instructions to the letter! Since you have the 6412 it should work (I guess) but if you have the 3412 you need the updated INF file.
The problem with following the instructions is that the instructions on Page 1 don't work for me. I don't have Media Center, so the Media Center program included on Page 1 won't work. Even the drivers won't install.

Guys,

I havent recorded in a while but it did work a few months back. I recently formated and reinstalled XP w/ sp2 and all the drivers for my system. i.e. Timmore for my SA3250HD. The drivers install fine. After a reboot I open DVHS and try to record it looks like it is fine but after about 10 seconds it (DVHS) Crashes! I have tried everything and I get the same results. I even got Time Warner Cable to give me a new SA3250HD. I tried it with the new box and the same result.

Please assist. Any help would be appreciated!

Here are my specs:

P4 3.0 GHz
2Gb Ram
ASUS MB
Windows XP Professional SP2
Adaptec 3 port 1394 Card
SA3250HD running Passport (Dont know the Version)

THanks in advance!

Have done the most recent Windows Update for drivers, not just the critical updates?

Would anyone know what AV/C driver is needed (and where it may be found) for recording from a Pioneer Elite PRO-1120HD i.Link port to a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine w/on board Firewire?

AV/C Tuner.
Use the meidvhs drivers mentioned at beginning of this / earlier thread and keep in mind that you will most likely not be able to record shows received via CableCard, and only OTA HD.
Thanks for the lead.

Installed the driver. The Pioneer PRO-1120HD sensed the computer is attached to the i.Link port but a message on the Pioneer TV said that the i.Link device is not controllable. Scanning through configuration options for the i.Link device on the TV, it says that no i.Link devices are connected.

I figured I needed more than just the driver and after searching this thread, I saw the reference for the CapDVHS utility. Found ver. 0.3.0.6 on the Internet. Upon running it, it said "Cannot Find Capture Device."

Would you know what pieces or steps I may have missed?
Just curious when you connected it for the first time, what device did hte pioneer box come up as? AV/C Tuner Device? Generic AV/C Device? or something else? If it was AV/C tuner and you followed install instructions, you SHOULD be getting a 'Panasonic MPEG-TS Source #1' or something similar in capdvhs menu list.
I've gone thru quite a few pages of posts and finally am able to do some recording. I have a Mot DCT6412 III w/ comcast in SF bay area. Here's what I found out. I am able to record analog channels but not the HD ones. These are not premium channels. I was recording ABC as a test. I switch between the HD and analog and only am able to capture the analog. I used CAPDVHS. I also checked the ABC HD channel and make sure 5c flag is 0. timecop, i'm hoping you have some idea.....pls help.....thx in advance.

When the computer first sensed that the Pioneer TV was attached to the Firewire port, a pop-up came up indicating the there is a new "AV/C Tuner." It searched for drivers but couldn't find any. That's when I posted here and then downloaded & installed the Meidvhs driver. In the device manager, the two 1394 ports do not show any error - no question mark or no 'X." Same for the AV/C device. No, a 'Panasonic MPEG-TS Source #1' did not come up in the capdvhs menu. There are no devices listed in the menu.

If I recall correctly (am not home at the moment to check) the Pioneer manual says that the i.Link can only talk to a DVHS. Could that be a factor here? If so, is there a way for the computer to be thought of as a DVHS by the Pioneer TV?

You can get a trial of FireBus (search the forum / google for it)

AC3Fix (freeware) is a very reliable command line tool.

I have a SA8300HD trying to connect to my pc via 1394. I've followed the instructions exactly over and over. Drivers seem to be installed correctly. It recognizes as a SA8300HD tuner and as a SA8300 panel. In CapVHS am I supposed to see a Panasonic device? Because all that is listed is the two SA devices. And when I select either of them, I either get the SampleGrabber error or a crash. If so, how do I change to recognize as the Panasonic device? Is this my problem? I'm pulling out my hair over here!!!

sinan32121, you might want to try to uninstall them from device manager and reinstall the drivers. If you can't see it under imaging devices, click on view and show hidden devices. make sure you only remove the 3 devices detected when you plug in your stb.

no luck, even when showing hidden devices, they're not there, i don't even have an imaging devices catagory
