I am also trying to record HDTV from the 4200HD via firewire. Using the D-Vhs program on the first page of this post, and selecting Scientific-Atlanta AV/C Panel Device as the capture device, I get "Error 80040217: Cannot connect SampleGrabber. When I change the capture device to Scientific-Atlanta AV/C Tuner Device, I get "Error 800705AA: Cannot start Capture".
I have a single cable box, 6 pin firewire going from STB to PCI card, Timmmoore's Firewire/USB software installed, 2005 MCE with all updates, a dual tuner hauppage card, and a Vbox Antenna HD card (but no antenna lol). Other hardware is that of a capable gaming rig.
What am I neglecting to do/doing wrong??? I can record cable channels via MCE from channel 2 to 70-something in SD no problem, but I believe that is coming from my SD tuner.
I have no indication that Firewire link is active, other than my cable box showing up in Device manager. Nor do I notice any change in channel-changing (is firewire channel changing supposed to work with my cable tv remote, or the MCE remote btw???)
Furthermore, I cannot watch HDTV in any capacity (channel 701 and above here in CT thru cablevision) via my Media Center PC. I have read that the 4200HD by Scientific Atlanta doesn't have a functional Firewire out for this, but it appears Ron above had some limited success.
