Having a very odd issue here.
Cox San Diego using SA8300HD with SARA 220.127.116.11
Couple weeks ago I looked at my diagnostic menu and saw that the 1394 ports were NOT active. So a call to my cable co was made and was told they would be activated within 24hrs.Fair enough.Well much longer has gone by and still reads DISABLED
So I thought why not try and see if I can get something.Maybe it just says that and I can record via 1394
Well after following the instructions here
I was ready to go.One thing I did notice was that now that I had a firewire cable connected, the diagnostic menu read UNAVAILABLE this time under the 1394 ports.I paid no mind and went on to record.
Here is where it gets strange.
I first tried live recording. No go.Not any channel.Well that sucks.Guess I need to call the cable co again. But wait, let me see if I can get things I have recorded from different channels.
I first try CHRONOS from INHD - CapDVHS crashes after about 1min and gives me a very watchable 100mb clip.I thought this was odd and tried a few times and got the same result.CapDVHS would crash.
I then moved on to a channel I know shouldnt have any problems and no 5c junk.I try a recording from my local channel 10 ( ABCHD ) and same thing. So I think, well this couldnt be a 5c thing could it?
So I move onto a recording of Metal Mainia from VH1 Classic which is like channel 300's and would think had 5c and no way to capture.Well I was wrong! I captured 30min worth just fine ( got me some cool 80's metal videos now! )
So I thought that was odd that everything was fine with that channel.
Just to remind you, all these tests are being done on recordings I did over time.Nothing here is from live recordings as for whatever reason I cant. These are all on my DVR waiting to be transfered if they can.
So getting back.I tried something I have on INHD2.I tried The Philadelphia Experiment and as with the music videos, all was good.I for 20min of that and no CapDVHS crash.
I tried then to get a cool program I saved on Discovery HD called Sharks Under Glass.Well even though my diagnostic menu reads FREELY ( as do all channels I have worked with so far ) I got about 20 seconds and CapDvhs crashed.
So here I have a 8300HD that tells me my 1394 ports are no go.That tell me my good HD channels are set to FREELY and I am only getting scattered results.
Both INHD and INHD2 are set to freely yet can only get one to record ( INHD2 )
Can record VH1 Classic but not something local and available OTA and not set with 5c
Can anyone tell me what is going on?
I am using a Gateway Laptop with XP home SP2 as I only have a 3ft firewire cable and main PC is too far away from 8300HD
