Nope, because this is the official firmware.

Is there any way to get my RP82 to play DVD+R DL disks? I just bought 30 of them only to find that the first movie I burned wouldn't play! D'oh!

I'm using Nero 6.x with a NEC drive. The burn was fine and it plays fine in my Media Center PC just not on my RP82 (I did a dumb thing and assumed it would play since it plays DVD-RAM I figured it would play anything!)

Thanks,

Ross

Roscarlson,
What brand are they? what speed did you burn them at?

The RP82 can play the DL discs and some others too. It dpeneds on how you did it. May need to asked those who had success, they will know.

You may need to use the search feature because the people who managed to do it posted in there quite a ways back.

I have just boguht a region free SDI modded RP82, it has firmware 65D298 and I was wondering if the firmware update will improve PQ when using SDI or if its only for the "original" outputs.

@Sango:
Did you do the JVL mod or you had it done by them? if it was you, is it easy to do?

The will improve over SDI as well.

I have a JVB of theirs for region/macrovision free which I put on myself. It's a bit difficult to do because the solder points are small and needs precision.

I assume your SDI/region free is a JVB mod - if so then I assume the region mod chip is there too. In that case, then the original firmware update will not work(you'll lose regions) and will need to put the modified one on there in place.

I agree. I've done a lot of soldering over the years, but soldering the JVB chip into the RP-82 is a challenge. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you've done some small circuit board work in the past.

Thanks to both for your answers.
I got this player 2nd hand and it is certainly region free as it was originally R3 and I can play R2 discs without a problem, but I have no idea how it was made region free, unless you have a picture of the chip installed in this player I wouldn't know where and what to look for. I will consider having it chipped if the improvements were really worth the expense of sending it to JVB because the cost is quite high at nearly 280 (330$), even doing it myself will cost 106 (125$).
My RP82 was SDI (PMS Kit) modded in the UK by crtprojectors.co.uk, this one is the only I know for sure.

Yup, I do have a picture of the chip for the JVB mod. Notice the chip with wires on top of the daughter board. The JVB mod chip for the RP82 is $64 for DYI while having them do it is $114.

Sango it'll be that price if I was in the US but I'm in EU and then I'm not in NL. where JVL is located over here, so my price with shipping and dearest VAT (19%) is the one I posted.
From the picture it doesn't seem too difficult to do, I have a friend who is quite good at soldering who could help me with this.
I have only tried one brand of DVD+R DL (crappy Philips 2.4x) and it seems the RP82 is not too keen on them.
Thx again.

EDIT: sorry Sango, my mistake, copy paste error.

I don't have a DVD burner and media so I am unable to test them on my own players. You will need to ask members who have done so to see what they say.

i'm having a problem similar to that of a previous poster - i am trying to instal the newest rp91 firmware but my rp91 says "player incompatible with this up-date". the fix for the previous individual was the downgraded FW (version 227) but the link for that downgraded firmware is dead and i can't find it anywhere else.

any help appreciated

thanks

For my RP91 upgrade, I first upgraded starting from 188 to 236, then to 262. Version 236 can be found here:

http://home.cogeco.ca/~hdtvguy/firmcheck.htm

Link still works. Good luck.
hmm...i checked the firmware and version 236 is where my rp 91 is at - and the 2 newer firmware upgrades in that link you gave me are dead now. thanks for the info, though. i wonder why on version 236 my RP91 is refusing the 262 firmware disc? it recognizes it as an update disc, but says it's not compatible with my player on the message screen.

This has been reported before below.

The first link referred to is the same one I posted 2 posts up. And yes the 259 version link is dead.

The ver 262 I used came from link: http://www.firmwareupdate.us/index.a...t=panasonicdvd just in case yours was from a different file.
Sorry I didn't have a better answer, good luck.

I sent oleus a PM of a possible solution.

UD#1 and Sango -

thanks for your help. I am currently on 236 and it's still not letting me use the 262 upgrade so i will try downgrading to 227 when i get home in the morning. i can't find the 259 firmware anywhere otherwise i would just try that. does anyone have a working link to 259?

PS - the 262 update disc(s) i have are from the firmwareupdate.us site you linked to..i don't think there's anything wrong with the multiple discs i burned (tried different burning options, now i have several discs that are recognized as 262 updates but the player won't let it "take").

thanks
oleus,

I actually have the firmware file for version 259. If you're are interested I could send it to you over an "instant messenger" or if your e-mail can accept a zip file of 9.293 megs I could send it that way. You're more than welcome to it if you like. Send me a private message if you're interested.

LCSeminole -

you have a PM.

thanks

Sango & oleus,

Sorry I haven't gotten back you all till now, it was a long day at work.
You both should have e-mail............... .....................I'll check back on this thread to see if it was successful!!!

LCSeminole -

thanks! i will try and burn it later when i get home.
hmm....i can't get my rp91 to recognize the 259 disc....it says "no play".....i will try different burning options tonight and see if i have any luck that way but i burned a disc image with Discblaze, which worked for the 262 update ("worked" in the sense that the rp91 recognized the disc even though it wouldn't let it update)
I got the Panasonic firmware iso and burned it to disc. Upgraded my RP-82 and it went smoothly. I'm now at D302. Just want to be sure of something. My buddy has an RP-62. Can I just give him the disc I burned and it will also update his player?

Thanks

If it's the newer disc, yes.
Not sure what you mean. His RP-62 is three years old, as was my rp-82, and for sure he has never updated his firmware.

I released two firmware discs, the old(the first time I released it) one and the newer(current) one. I know the current one has RP62 but do not remember if the old one has it - I believe it does.

Update:

I managed to look up some old email which had the list of firmware on the old disc, it does have RP62 so you don't have to worry about which disc you have.
