Peter: since you are working with VOOM, do you have any thoughts on this?

Which AP preamp do you recommend? 8700? 4700?

Thanks.

Does anyone know a company that will install and antenna and how much it costs? I am not a person that should be crawling around in the attic or the roof.

I don't. Haven't gotten a unit set up for myself, so I can't say I'm familiar with the updates they are doing.

Thanks.

Depends how long you are going between the antenna and receivers. I use the 8700 normally, and the 8725 if its a long run with lots of splitters and receivers. They key to remember is you don't want to overdrive your receiver, it will act as if the signal is low. Try the 8700 and you should be fine, at about 17dB gain even if its real close to your receiver it probably will not overdrive it. I have never used the 4700, and I can't remember what I usually get on 11, the only benefit would be if you were getting at least -5 dB at the antenna which I don't think has ever happened to me. I would try nothing first. This is the chart with all the pre-amps. http://www.winegard.com/offair/pdf/Chart29.pdf Remember, ultimately, you can't choose what amp you need unless you know what you have at the antenna and you need a meter for that, so everything else is guess work. Hope that helps.

Anyone receiving digital channels 2, 6, 18, 24, 27, 30, 35, 41, or 56 this morning?

I mean from OTA.....I have checked....getting only 9 and 15 and both have good signal. All the rest have no signal at all.

They were on all during the storm last night....now they are gone.

41-1, 15-2 and 18-1 were on last night, the others in your list were off the air when I checked around 11pm. 15-1 had no picture and 15-2 had no sound. 41-1 was showing the WOFL news. 18-1 looked like it was running on reduced power and was breaking up pretty badly. 18-1 was better this morning before they went down. 41-1 was up earlier this morning. Probably doing work at the tower (WESH, WRBW, WBCC, WECU & WKMG share the same DT transmitter site)

Kudos to WFTV-DT for managing to stay on the air even when the power went out at the station.

9-1 is all I'm getting on my OTA currently...glad to hear it's not just me.

Boy, I am really regretting not being able to watch/record the Opening ceremonies last night and today. I am not in an NBC O&O market, so Iam not able to catch it on D* ch. 84, and our NBC OTA reception has been out since last night (Hurricane Charlie). So no NBC HD coverage at all!

I'm getting 6-1 & 9-1 now. Still nothing on 2, 18, or 35...
For those interested, WOFL-DT and WRBW-DT were taken off air voluntarily to conserve fuel for the analog transmitters, since both transmitter sites are running on emergency diesel generators until FPL can restore power, which may take several days. This was done because it was unclear when deliveries of more fuel could take place. Those deliveries have now been started and it is likely that the digital transmitters will go back on-air soon. Thanks for your patience.

It is getting closer to football season, and I need to get an OTA antenna installed. I know I asked this already, but does anyone know a company that will do this? I am not having much luck finding one. I live in the Winter Garden Area. I would really appreciate it. I want to get MOnday night football in HD.
Thanks
Frank

Private message aforlano or PeterShipp they're in the business but tend not to push their business on this forum.

I'm still showing the following channels down:

WESH-DT NBC 2.1 11
WRDQ-DT IND 27.1 14
WOFL-DT FOX 35.1 22
WMFE-DT PBS 24.1 23

Everyone else showing the same thing? I wish WESH NBC would come back up so we could get the Olympics in HD. I know there are bigger concerns out there these days but it still would be nice...

Half of the reason I got this HD Tivo so quickly was to get the Olympics in HD (Football being the other half).
I'm still showing the same channels down. The only saving grace is that at least the Olympics in HD are available on DirecTV (84). Granted it's a 1 day delay but at least I'm getting something.
My dish is down and got damaged due to Charley so off air is my only option for Olympics right now. However, DirecTV is coming by today to replace the dish for free! Didn't know we qualified to get channel 84, so I guess I'll be watching the Olympics in HD later today!

The nice thing about WESH-DT being down is that I can see WINK-TV in Ft Myers in the morning/evening to see what is happening down there.
Huh? You can pick up Ft. Myers stations from Melbourne? How far is that?

Well outside of reliable reception. Its normal Fl tropospheric progation. That's why it comes in during the morning and late evening when the noise level and atmospheric layers are low.

Wow cool. And I've been beating my head trying to get Tampa stations from Orlando (towers are only 60 miles away).
Looks like WESH-DT is back up again.
Woohoo!! Time to go watch the Olympics.
Of the MIA stations looks like WESH-DT and WOFL-DT are back, but now WKMG has gone MIA.
It appears they are showing the same thing as 84 and the D* local channel 2 is showing different programming!
My longtime satellite installer has moved away. I need to find a replacement.

I have what I consider to be a fairly complicated set up which includes C/Ku Band (4dtv receiver - currently not working), HD DirecTv with 1 HD DirecTv TiVo and 2 non-HD DirecTv Tivos, and OTA antenna for local reception of digital signals.

I live near downtown Orlando. I recognize that this is a bad time to be looking for somebody new but if anybody here can help or can refer me to somebody who can, please PM me.

Many thanks in advance.

That's exactly what's going on ... the feed on D* 84 is the official NBC HD feed and it's being picked up on 2.1, 2.2 is showing regular Olympic programming for the day that's been cut up for prime time air.

I too was ticked when 2.1 was down then when I found 84 I was ok as I got to see coverage and it was in HD which I would rather watch over the daily SD feed anyday.

Just wanted to post about the bad experience I'm having with Mastec-the Orlando DirecTV installer.

If you can avoid using these guys-I would do so. The first tech they sent out had no concept of putting the OTA antenna in the attic. He also wanted to re-mount my new HD dish on the roof, drilling holes through my shingles(doubt it would be there now if he had since Charley came through).

I currently have a dish with a 99 signal on the side of my house. Clear view of the sky-shouldn't be an issue.

Then, he looks at my new Mitsu DLP and doesn't want to touch it because it looks too expensive. He was afraid to break it! This is someone who installs DirecTV for a living!

So I send this guy packing and set up an appointment for this past Monday between 8-12. Monday rolls around, and still no confirmation from Mastec that a guy is coming. I call at 10:40. They have no record of my appointment. I speak to a supervisor, who promises to have a guy out by the afternoon. 3pm comes, and I call again. The supervisor tells me they can't get to me. So I set it up for the next day-at 5pm since I can't just keep getting time off of work for this.

So 5pm Tuesday... Just my luck, a bad lightning storm. The tech is there. This time I'm understanding, and I don't want this poor guy out there in the bad weather. So, I set it up for today at 5pm again....

I call Mastec at 3pm to confirm with the supervisor that someone will be there at 5. Supervisor seemed a little confused and said he would call me right back. No call back by 4:30. I call, and get put on hold. Told the supervisor was on the other line and he would call me back.

5:25....no call. I call again, and get a hold of Mr. Supervisor one more time. Then he tells me that he forgot to put my appointment in the computer because he wasn't in front of a PC at the time!! So now, I have to set it up for one more time tomorrow. Unbelievable.

I called DirecTV and told them if this happens one more time, I may just switch to Brighthouse. What would you do?
Use a reputable small local installer. There are several good ones in the area that are DirecTV authorized.
I'm watching the Olympics on WESH-DT right now and the difference between now, (when they don't have the sub channel stealing 4Mbps from the HD feed) and primetime last night, is astounding. I wish they'd dedicate all 18.4Mbps to the HD feed through primetime.

Kudos to the WESH-DT staff for at least giving us a good picture during the day.

I wonder if the network mandates the use of the sub channel during prime-time?
You're right Kid, the picture is horrible right now. I was watching in the afternoon and it looked very good. Multicasting blows...
