Orlando, FL - OTA - Page 4

I have finally had enough of Adelphia, and bought an OTA antenna and a D* system.

I am in Waterford Lakes, and I get really good reception on the OTA channels, all of them are crystal clear - and I am fortunate that I have clear LOS in the SW sky and all the D* sats come in at over 90%.

I love ESPN HD.

Adelphia's network is garbage. They offer 7 whopping channels including locals (no FOX, no ABC, no WB though) and they only have enough bandwidth for 5 channels atm. I always get only 5 channels, and depending on the day it's a different 5.

What a garbage cable company.

In my limited experience (four different cable companies in different parts of the US), three of four were horrible, total garbage. After that I shifted to D* and have stayed with them through several moves. Am I wrong?

I cannot even get the OTA signal from WKMG tonight (again). Anyone else having problems?
Do any of you guys who have off the air receivers have a problem with channel six's audio level? I'm using a Zenith HDV420 and whenever I tune to Ch 6.....the level is around 6 or more db higher than any other channel. This makes it about at least twice as loud as all the others. I get tired of always having to change the level before switching to 6, because if it is a commercial I get blasted off the couch if I don't.

Clear signal in Melbourne. Robbie

Gator, considering my question on levels is on WKMG.....no I'm not having any problems with reception here in Brevard.

Yes, WKMG's audio level is higher than the other DT stations. I also find it rather annoying.

Gator, could the weather over there be causing your reception problems ? Being the highest DT channel, they are more likely to be affected by rain.
Gator,

I have seen Rich21 post this many times whenever it rains and WKMG goes away. They are a high frequency UHF and are the most susceptible to signal loss due to wet shorted out RG-6 exterior connections. Check your analog signal strength for UPN 65 to compare.

RthurDent,

I think your problem with audio levels on WKMG-DT is actually the fault of our CBS affiliate broadcasting 2.0 audio inside a 5.1 wrapper which takes the dialog and blasts it out of your left and right mains and sends nothing to your center channel. I have a analog connection to my receiver I use as a work around to properly decode the 2.0 audio.

Its also probably that if the weather is nasty, WKMG will suffer degradation due to rain fade (signal being reflected and/or aborbed by the rain). The effect is worse for the higher channels.

Thanks guys, 6 is coming in fine tonight. Must have been the weather. 6 seems more susceptible to weather than DirecTV (at least for me).

any Gainesville residents know when we can expect the local affiliates (besides PBS) to hit the HD switch? Hoping to get HD before football season!

Since WOGX is run by WOFL and is a Fox O&O station I would image they would be up and running in time for football season. If you can find out if they have made the switch to 720p then you should be in good shape for the All star game in July.

Can't find any info on the other stations (except PBS) doing digital or HD.
No HD on WKMD-HD tonight. Good thing it's rerun season.
This is becoming a pattern that happens every week now.

It's like someone who only works Thursday night wakes up from a nap during CSI and realizes they forgot to hit the HD broadcast switch. This week they slept a little later into the show than last.
WOFL is MIA as of right now.

I wonder if their doing any tweaking in preparation of going HD whithin the next couple of weeks?
I think they are DOA. Just when we thought we were past the rain delay. Robbie
post #107 of 3340
Yes, WOFL Fox 35 digital has disappeared as of about 15 minutes ago. At least their analog signal is still on.

I'm wondering if it is just their OTA broadcast or if they lost it on the satellite too.
BTW, there is a carrier signal with more than sufficient strength.....just no video.
Carrier with no video is a classic sign of a PSIP table change. Do a channel rescan to see if WOFL-DT shows up on a different virtual channel.
I just found it on Digital channel 31!!!!!!!!!! They are supposed to be on 22.

They aren't wide screen though.:-(
Ok, I'm looking for FOX HD, just went through all the menus and didn't see rescan. Rebooted the box, but it's still missing.
I did not mean to suggest you could rescan a cable box to see the new WOFL-DT channel. That only works for the off air people. BHN will need to reset the demod at the headend for the problem to be fixed on cable. My guess would be that the WOFL encoder got rebooted and came up with a PSIP table in default on channel 22 which put everybody including BHN in black. If WOFL monitored the digital signal they are sending out they would have seen the problem but the fact they stayed in black for many hours suggests they do not care.

Rich/Barry: What is the code that causes your sat receiver to display the transponder listing with associated channels?? As I recall, it is something like: "EXIT EXIT 7-7-7-3" or something like that.

I haven't found that code (for a TIV0)

This site has the info though
http://richardk.digitalrice.com/transponders.asp

At least with the HD Tivo, if you change to a channel and then go do a signal strenght test, it will do it for the channel (sat/transponder) you are viewing.

Another day, another problem. Now WCEU's primary channel 15-1 has been having audio problems. Before anyone asks, I've checked and I am not set to an alternate audio stream. The sound is broken every second to an extent you cannot understand anything. They have been this way since at least 3:30 this afternoon on multiple programs. They have good signal strength and their other channels are fine .

Anyone else having this problem?
Audio on 15.1 coming in just fine for me.
Yeah, they finally fixed it. It was screwed up for over 5 hours, but is fine now.

Is anyone else having trouble with WESH Digital? I arrived home from the holiday weekend to absolutely no signal at all on 2 different devices for that station. I double-checked and every other station is working perfectly with signal strength levels better than 85%. WESH is showing no signal at all. It has worked perfectly for quite some time but now appears to be gone completely.

Anyone know of anything that changed recently with them that might be causing this?

Have you tried to re-scan your channels? That is the most common cure for 'dropped' stations. With all the storms/power outages we've been having the past several weeks, all it takes is a simple 'glitch' in your digital tuner to cause something to go goofy.

Try a rescan, and I'd be willing to bet your channel returns.

I had already done a rescan on both the TV and HDTiVo but for grins tried it again; I even reset the OTA channel data and then scanned again on the TV. No change at all, I still don't have the digital channels for WESH. I went back and looked at the signal strength meters on both devices and they show no signal at all on that frequency. As I noted above, all of the other stations are up around 85% signal strength.

The only other thing is the booster on the antenna up in the attic; I guess I'm headed up there next to power cycle that to see if it stabilizes things. Seems strange though that it's only that station that died.
