Always check the tropospheric forecast if you're trying to lock a station 100+ mi away.

When you live behind a mountain or down in a valley - forget it!

The problem really is that the 1's shoot out of the antenna like little arrows and fly right over the mountains and into the valleys but the 0's are kind of fat and round and tend to bounce around a lot and rarely bounce into the valley.

also heard as - The problem appears to be a kink in the network cable... All the zeros can squeeze through but the ones just get stuck.

LOL!

Yeah, as one who is stuck in one of those valleys (literally the whole neighborhood is between two small mountains to either side running east to west) I get NO reception other than WTAJ TV10, and that only because it's 5 minutes away from my house....

Hence it's either cable or satellite for me. I'm sticking with ABB for now. I've downgraded to Value service (channels 1-99) plus the HD channels to save money, and traded in the DVR for a DVD recorder with HDD that does the job of the DVR fairly well enough. I was just paying way too much for cable. I really wish I could get OTA TV, though! Ah well.

Yep, I know the feeling. Here in the center of Butler county, I can't even get a blip of the Pittsburgh channels due to a large hill on my property, but I can get both 7 and 9 which are "down the valley" on the other side. I could put the antenna on the highest part of my property( about 150ft higher and 1,500 ft away from the house), but I still have not found a way to run over 1,500 ft of cable with out any loss...

Did WLLS-LP shut down?

I haven't been able to receive them for the last week or so. Not a big deal, but I'm just curious if they might be going digital (or going under) soon or something. There's no reference to anything in their FCC filings online.

The FCC said that the drop off will be around the Jefferson County Line and that you would have to live somewhere around Marchand - Indiana County if you want to receive the signal.

The same holds true for KDKA and all the other stations in the Pittsburgh area.

Good luck Buena Vista, PA is 63 miles from Punxsutawney and AFAIK WTAE is already operating at full power on RF channel 51. It appears there has already been a slight improvement of their digital signal to the west or at least in the direction of Newark, OH because WSFJ analog shut down last month.

Just received a notice from ABB that they are raising rates AGAIN! Didn't they just raise rates about six months ago? Most every service is going up a dollar or more. Grrrr.

Yes, they did. Don't you just love how they try to "justify" the raising of our rates yet again (2 times in less than a year)? All the new channels, the HD content, etc. etc. so I guess we ought to be GRATEful to pay a little more. Heh.

I'd just dropped down to Value tier with HD service added, and no DVR, to save money...but they're still trying to nickle and dime me to near death anyway. SIGH. It's still better, for me at least, than satellite though....

Anyone having trouble with comcast sportsnet hd, espnhd, espn2hd, and tnthd? When I tune to the channel I get the guide info but just a blank screen and it only seems to be happening with this group of channels.

I just don't have cable, it works pretty well for me, they haven't raised the rates yet.

You're lucky, then.

Here (where I'm at) there's one OTA channel that comes in, and that's it. After everyone goes digital I'm hoping even that one will still come in! (I've got a little portable digital TV for emergencies, so I think it'll still work OK. )

Yeah, I somehow manage to have an indoor antenna and still receive WPSU (3.1,3.2,3.3), WTAJ, WATM (abc23&Fox8), and sometimes WHVL/AmericaOne.

ABC23 has been giving me problems lately though, so I'm thinking of upgrading to a wall mount outdoor antenna.

I very much praise the digital switch (should have been just an addition though) because it took me from 2 marginal at best stations to the 6ish solid ones above, it makes it easier to bear my continued lack of cable.

Now if they'd just do that with WWCP Fox HD (and local WWCP Fox, as well)...I have to turn it down every time commercials come on, then back up when the program resumes. Annoying!

Well , guess I'll kiss Stubinville's channel 9, bye! bye ! haven't had so much of a sniff of a signal since their change-over. I was at least expecting a tropo by now! [ CM -4228...at Johnstown] not that I didn"t expect more than just an occational burp!

So, I moved my indoor antenna out to the (closed in) porch, and with some clever rigging including some coat hangers and aluminum foil, I'm not getting a great picture from WJAC's State College repeater. The nightly news looks great in wide screen HD (even on my crappy TV).

Is State College repeater = 34.1 - 3?

Might I suggest that you buy a small outdoor antenna and mount it outside the porch - you might get more channels that way.

No, The repeater is on 42.1-3. Yeah, I plan to get an outdoor antenna to better level out the signal quality when the weather isn't ideal, the money's just tight right now, and for now I just don't want to lose WJAC after the 12th (especially now that I've gotten used to constantly watching RTN6).

I probably have one out in the shop that would work for you that I could sell for $20 + what ever it cost to deliver / or you could meet or pick up.

All it needs is a good transformer.

So WJAC signs their Analogue off at 9am tomorrow (the 12th) Does anyone know when WTAJ plans to turn theirs off?

Did anyone else catch the Low Band VHF skip today (June 12th)? I caught KTBS 3 Shreveport, LA and KDFW 4 Dallas/FW, TX analog signals here in State College between 9 and 10 AM on an antenna pointed north west!...I guess this is the last time to do that...I'm thinking that some of the closer stations on those channels turned off already, which helped.

Yeah, I noticed that also. Does anyone know what would be coming in on channel 2?

Also, does anyone know when WJAC is going to physically turn off their analog transmitter?
