No. Actually my 4200 watts covers most of the populous areas of my market and 60% of my market has us available via cable so only the OTA only folks on the edges of the market are the only ones who have trouble getting us and even those folks have access to the FOX signals OTA from FOX affiliates in other markets. Sure, I would love to have full power, but I understand why things are as they are and in many cases, I agree with the decisions.

FOX's problem, not mine. I just do what I am told.

Sorry to go OT, but what have you found to be a general area of coverage for that 4.2kW? As far as the outer edges, can you go 30-40 miles?
I pick up our Fox affiliate who is broadcasting at 4.6kW (or very close to it) and I'm 62 miles away from the tower.

For UHF, transmitting antenna height is often far more important than power.

Our Fox HD stick is putting out 800 Watts.

The height and antenna pattern have a lot to do with it. My antenna is at 900 ft and has a what is called a narrow cardioid pattern. That works for my station since my transmitter is south of the three towns we serve and this puts the signal over the main population centers of those towns. Furtherest distance is about 35 to 40 miles with an outside antenna on a roof. Of course those who live on the sides get about 15 to 20 miles and on the back of the antenna about 5 to 10 miles but there are no population centers on the sides or back that are beyond that coverage. I am on channel 35, which is not a bad UHF channel.

Today's update:

'Technical Issues Have Arisen'

Not totally unexpected, but issues nevertheless. It is still possible for the game to be available in HD, but odds are significantly reduced from the previous prognostication.

The Magic 8 Ball extends its sincere apologies to all who are inconvenienced in any way by this information. Even experts can sometimes be mystified by bugs.

:( very sad!
Yep, that sucks. But there's still hope. The phrase " the odds are significantly reduced" doesn't sound good though.:(

Staying positive in Tulsa anyway!!
In some respects, this is still a science project.

I just finished reading a thread over at HTS from somebody claiming to be an engineer at Fox in LA. He says they've finished testing the fiber feed to D*. He also says plans are to put the July 13th All Star Game on D* as a special event and some splicer-installed affiliates.

Does the Magic 8 Ball have any updates?

The last the Magic 8 Ball heard, the final decision will probably be made a day or two before the game.

I guess they aren't confident and this really IS a testing ground for them. Assumed "not going to happen". ;p

Perpetually pessimistic,

Hong.

We still have two weeks to go. I want to see the home-run derby in HD.

It's on ESPN-HD.

We still haven't been given a yes or no on the All Star Game. As the Magic 8 Ball has said, there are some technical issues within the distribution system to the stations that are being worked on at a feverish pitch. If the past is any indication, if it isn't working to a certain standard, FOX will not take the risk.

The All Star Game was always a maybe and from what I have been told, to make the All Star Game means that certain major milestones are having to be moved up. From what I hear, FOX Sports wants it pretty bad, but right now network (they are two separate divisions who answer to different VP's) has more important issues such as the antenna dish repointing project that has to been completed next week or parts of the network go dark. If it goes dark, you will not have SD much less HD. I personally spoke to a network guy last week and asked him if he had done any work with the splicers and he told me that no one in the TOC had really worked with it yet since their attention has been on the dish repointing project.

Based on that, I would say there is a 40% chance, but until we hear a no, there is always hope. And yes, IMHO, if the All Star Game is in HD, it will be beta test version HD broadcast and it will more than likely be full of technical bugs. I don't think the venue will have too many problems, my concern is the splicer and how it will work since it will be the first time EVER on line and there is always trepidation with new technology. If you can't stomach that, then I would suggest you watch it in SD and save your blood pressure. Then if all goes well, (and I THINK IT WILL) I won't need that ambulance on standby! ;)

I just don't see D* getting exclusive broadcast rights for the HD version. Newscorp will always go out of its way to make sure Fox doesn't show that kind of favortism to D*, or vice versa. Could you imagine how much Charles E. would cry if D* got to carry the HD feed of the game exclusive.

A report came a few days ago from satguys that a good possibility for the AS game to be on E* was there. FWIW, TIOLI, YMMV WGAF....

If only TWC would get their act together with ESPN/Disney and carry ESPN-HD.

FYI -- Yesterday I was watching the Fox Sports West 2 broadcast of the Dodger v. Giants game. It looked better than usual -- as if they were using HiDef cameras, but still broadcasting in SD. Then between innings the camera focused on the full moon and Vin commented that they were using HiDef cameras today, and he was told this shot would look amazing in HiDef. I'm not sure what this means. The broadcast was not available in HDTV anywhere that I was aware of. Maybe Fox is testing out its equipment in advance of the AllStar game...

Meanwhile, while you guys are rubbing your magic lamps and having wet dreams of Fox in HD.... ESPN has added WEDNESDAY NIGHT BASEBALL IN HDTV. So now you've got Sunday and Wednesday. Tonights game is Boston/Yankees in HDTV!
I'm happy for ESPN. Glad they're putting out an HD baseball signal.
But a lot of people like myself, are always looking for a bargain. I am hoping to put up a nice antenna outdoors and (with some hard work from FOX!) get the All-Star game for free.
I'm worn out with constantly rising cable bills. Just one man's opinion.
In the middle of nowhere in the 1970's, having a few stations piped in by cable seemed like a good idea when there was no ABC station within reach of the "deepest fringe" antennas and preamp on a 40-foot tower.

Now it's cable station overload and cable has become a burden (to some).

UGH.

Anyway, there's still time to put together something. My local station is now passing 720p, so there's hope.

Foxeng-
Nothing against your personally (I never shoot the messenger), but............

It's hard to imagine the Fox, home of "Enhanced Widescreen" in stunning 480P would even have a "certain standard". Maybe things are finally going to change over at Fox.

As a former Houstonian, I'd love to see this in HDTV. I love Enron Field, oops MinuteMaid Park, and since I can't go to the game, HDTV would sure be nice.
