Well I just got my XR50 on friday.
Running it with my B&W DM303s and LCR3 center. Mirage 8SX sub.
Well initially I just went with bare wire. The 5 ways worked fine. The clamp/spring clip style posts kinda suck. Bare wire still kinda pulled out, 14 guage, and was a huge PITA to get in there. Today I tried some Monster Angle Pins, but they dont work since they are solid and the posts cant clamp on them, though would work well in a spring post. Went back to BB and got some Flex Pin connectors. 40 bucks for 4 pairs, not cheap, but oh well. Worked better, clamps nicely. The only downside is that I had to tape the connectors since I was afraid of them making contact with each other.
Not using the unit for any video switching, leaving it all up to the mitsu TV.
Woooooooo! Infinately better than my old h/k avr300. Much more consistent decoding, and the DTS decoding actually works on the Panny. Sound overall is much improved in movies like Gladiator and Episode2. Voices are FAR more distinct and less muddled now. I can even understand people at lower volumes. Impossible on my h/k. Seems to be plenty of power for my dm303s, 88db 8ohm.
Loving the DPL2 for 2 channel tv and movies, its pretty impressive!
2 channel music:
Very nice as well. Some material is a little on the bright side, but I don't have many hours on the unit yet, seems like many have had improvements in this area with burn-in.
Excellent decoding, power, and overall sound quality. All these are by far and away the most important factors for me, so im happy about that. Love the small form factor.
Crappy speaker hookups. The unit doesnt seem to have an on screen display which could help make initial setup a bit easier. I wish I could rename the connections on it and it had a few more. Right now I have 2 coax and 1 optical hookup in use, Cable Box, DVD, and XBOX. I haven't yet but would like to hookup my dreamcast and PS2 also.
All in all, for 225 bucks its a steal. Will probably remain my receiver for some time to come.
