Perhaps this list could be broken into a chart where the top contains all the features and the left column contains the receivers. Thoughts?

Tell you what, if I get a couple volunteers, I will create a couple of web pages. One for entering receivers and their info, the other for displaying this data and it could be filtered.

Hm, I think there are only a handful Class D (digital) HT receivers on the market right now.

This is the sad part about this great technology. I hope there are more coming.

Well, here is another explanation, fairly simple if you ignore the formulas:

Basically, think of Class D as more efficient, smaller, cooler (both figuratively and not) and often cheaper to produce.

This last part is what may be the bane of the technology, from the standpoint of the major producers of the currently most common Class AB designs.

It's harder to convince the consumer to spend thousands on something which contains relatively inexpensive parts, with little room for esoteric, expensive sounding components.

That, and the fact that Class D are compact and usually light, which current marketing has termed to equal cheap and low quality.

But for my money, Class D rules.

I think my old receiver has a dead channel, but that is another post. My speakers are rated at 95 watts (klisph) Do I need a 100 watt reciever? any suggestions. I want middle of the road system with hdmi. There are some good deals on the hk ebay store. would this be a nice unit? harman kardon 2600 only rated at 65 watts.

Is Pulsus PS9830B inside Samsung HW-C700 Class D amp (digital receiver) ? Crystal Amp Pro = Pulsus PS9830B ? It just consume around 20-25 watt compare to my TX-SR607 around 80-90 watt (using Kill A Watt).

Is there a current gen receiver (capable of decoding lossless formats) that uses Class-D (Apart from the Samsung HW-C700 and the Pioneer SC series) ? Any new receivers coming up from JVC or Panasonic?

Sony are still producing the TA-DA9100ES flagship multi-channel integrated amplifier.

This uses S-Master Pro amplification like the discontinued DA9000ES and DA7100ES.

I believe this is now the only all-digital multi-channel amp.

Sadly it has only ever been sold in Japan.

Samsung has eliminated the audio D/A converter in this 700 receiver yet no one is even discussing it, even when the sound quality is superior.
The irony of inexpensive yet superior technology in beer budget gear will turn the market on its head.
Lets see how long it take for the industry professionals to admit it. A great experiment in human nature. My bet is 1-2 years.

Gee, I asked myself the same question having owned a Panasonic digital receiver too. Texas instruments let their digital amplifier die, even worse than the fate for their DLP technology.
Both are, incidentally, good examples of why Asia becoming the economic powerhouse of the 2ist century, no questions asked.

New Marantz NR1601 looks very good -- slim, reasonably powerful, and -- unlike Sherwood AVR mentioned on previous page -- supports upconversion, 3D, 1.4a, and standby passthrough.

It's very new, so the only review I've come across is at CNET -- http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...ml?tag=rvwBody

The Marantz NR1601 is NOT digital nor class D Though.
The Sherwood mentioned is...

Although it does look like a good choice if space is limited.

The reason I jump to HW-C700 because less heat to my bedroom (above 100° F summer here) and two of my subs using Class-D amplifier (SuperCube I), so I'm newbie for digital receivers. I didn't know Pioneer SC series digital receivers, thanks for the info... :-)

I took me 3 hours to remove this chip using a small soldering iron and a pair of tweezers. After much experimentation I determined that only the Dolby and DTS functionality was missing. I made sure the mute button was set to "off" too. Any other great mysteries just letme know guys. Gotta go watch Waiting for Superman now!

Hi HiFiFun... So which one is the "digital amp chip" inside HW-C700 ? Pulsus PS9830B or Texas Instruments DSP chip ?

The TI handles audio processing only, not amplification. The Pulsus makes the class-d amplifier tech here.

Great pics! A couple of things I noticed:

1. The board is listed as C500/C700, implying it's the same PCB at least. I'm sure there are differences in the components used.
2. There are some IR (International Rectifier) chips near that Pulsus chip. IR makes a number of ICs for class-d amplification. I wonder if you could give us the model #'s of those chips - I can't quite read them in the pics. Perhaps IR is involved in the Pulsus class-d amp solution?
