finally comcast gave me my listings. i've had fox news hd, fx hd and speed hd for about 3 months now in utah with my tivo hd/cable card box without any program listings. comcast has not been able to do anything. pretty annoying. my tivo just got program guide and listings for those channels along with the nhl network which has been around for a few weeks now. unfortunately, they still haven't acknowledged that we get the big 10 network. which means i have to search the internet to figure out exactly what game will be showing each week in our market.

Yeah, I also noticed last night that Comcast has finally gotten us TiVo users our program guide data for the new channnels they added a couple months ago. Now I can finally set up a season pass on FX HD for the remaining 3 episodes (ever) of THE SHIELD. Oh happy day!

I am unable to find KCBU or any DT translator for this station here in the Rose Park area of SLC.

I am using an Antennas Direct DB4 in my attic and getting excellent reception and signal strength for every other station shown to serve the SLC market. My STB is a Zenith DTT900.

What gives?
Technically speaking, RTN should be aired on 2-2, but it isn't. It's on KUSG 12-1 in St George, which repeats KUTV on 12-2, and is co-owned with KUTV, but for whatever reason, they don't carry it in Salt Lake City.

I'm not sure what programming KCBU is airing, but I assure you of two things:

1. KCBU is located in Price, UT. There are far too many mountains in the way for it to make it to the Salt Lake City area.

2. KCBU-DT is on channel 3. Your antenna will not receive that signal.

I live in Jeremy Ranch, just over Parley's Summit, but high enough to get reception from the Ochre towers. Until two weeks ago, I was getting digital reception from channels 2, 4, and 5, in addition to 7, 9, 11, 13, 14 and 30. Now channels 2, 4 and 5 (and 9) have gone dark..0 reception. I have a large antenna in the attic pointed at the Ochres.
Does anybody know what's going on?

I think mine is the KWorld KW-ATSC340U. Right now you can get it for $35.24 after rebate from buy.com.

I just purchased and installed a Zenith DTT901 converter box. Everything seems to work well except the reception of SLC CH 2 (DTV 34-1). It has a signal strength about 1/3 of all the other SLC channels. I have unobstructed line of sight view of Farnsworth peak. I've moved the antenna back and forth and up and down but no change. Any ideas what to look at next?

Hey all, I'm new here and still sorting out the options I have to get an HD signal working with my DVR, and would appreciate knowing what the experienced people here are doing. Be gentle, I am ignorant, although lurking here greatly helped me get my OTA channels setup. Bless my clear shot to the Oquirrh mountains. :-)

I currently have standard analog Comcast running into an analog tuner card, a PVR-150 from Haaupage. The software is Mythdora 5 under Linux. From there the signal goes out the DVI interface on the video card, and I have a DVI>HDMI cable running into an HDMI port on my TV. The DVR is outputting a 1080p signal, and looks great everywhere but watching a show, which of course is just analog cable quality.

So I have upgraded my cable package to include some HD channels, and it looks like this comes with a set top box. Right now the set top box is not hooked up to anything, but the channels up to 99 all work fine with my analog tuner card.

My question is: If I put a digital tuner card in my PVR, like the Haaupage HVR series, will I need the set top box to get the "higher than 99" digital channels, or will the digital tuner make it unnecessary?

And if anyone out there has a mythtv type setup, do you recommend any particular dual tuner capture card? I'd like to record 2 shows at once.

Thanks, Sean

YES! That makes my antenna setup significantly smaller. Very cool. Thanks KSTU!

First off, I'm new to this forum. This is my first post. I don't want to beat a dead horse and I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but I can't find the answer I'm looking for, so here goes...

I used to get CW30 digital channel 30.1 on my new HDTV. (I bought the TV the day of this year's Olympic opening ceremonies... so it is a new TV.) Then the digital channel 30.1 was sporatic at times. Now I haven't been able to get it to show up for a couple of months. Does anyone know if this station is down? Has it changed locations on the digital channel map? I've tried looking at CW30's web site for info as well as ABC4 Utah's web site (as they are both owned by the same corp.).

Not sure if those of you who are smarter than me need this info, but my TV is a Sony 32" Bravia M Series LCD, model number KDL-32M4000. I'm using an over the air antenna. All other SLC digital channels are coming in perfectly clear. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Regarding ch 30 - I can only tell you that 2 weeks ago I set up a Digital tuner and received ch 30 fine .... (couldn't get ch 4 on one TV though, and ch 7 on a different TV, same feed - but the cable to the antenna has some issues I need to fix)

For those Comcast subscribers: What happened to MOJO? And more importantly, what will happen with Jazz games that should be shown in HD? I called Comcast and all they had was a recorded saying MOJO had gone off the air????
I think 30.1 is and has been working just fine. Digital TV seems to require a better antenna than analog did. Or better aiming. I've had lots of trouble getting all the signals at one time, but I've finally got my antenna in a spot on the roof that picks them all up well.

I too noticed that the Jazz games are no longer on Comcast 664 (Mojo) even though the Jazz Website says they are. I don't know what the story is. I do get the channel 14 games in HD over the air (but not on cable).

Well, it looks like the staff at KSL chose advertising money over quality, by adding a 5.2 "sports" channel to the 5.1 and 5.3 offerings. This will only have one outcome: 5.1 will become a pixelated mess like the multiple channels added to KBYU and KUED. Sad. HDTV had such promise for those of us who actually cared about quality video and sound...

What are they thinking? ... as if KSL/NBC could afford losing any MORE viewers.

There's a 5-3? I mean, other than the static image they have on 5-3 now.

5-3 is and has been NBC Weather Plus, although it will be going away in the not-too-distant future.

I've tried looking at CW30's web site for info as well as ABC4 Utah's web site (as they are both owned by the same corp.).

Last year CW30 was having problems with their PSIP.
They were shutting it off, or forgetting to turn it on, or something, until right before primetime.
Many times my HD TiVo couldn't record Smallville because the channel wasn't there, but would record Supernatural just fine, leading me to believe they fixed whatever was wrong between 7 and 8pm.

If you can't find a signal on 30.1, try channel 48, the actual UHF channel they are broadcasting on.
If you get picture and sound, then that means their PSIP problems have returned.
I went as far as double recording Smallville and Supernatural last year on both 30.1 and 48 for this very reason.

I've also seen some ATSC tuners remove channels if they tune to them and they aren't there, and you have to rescan all channels to get them back.
So, if you tune to 30.1 and it isn't there for some reason, you can't get them until you scan.

There also could be some work being done getting ready for the 2-09 switchover, and they could be going lower power on their digital transmitter, or other maintenence.

Long story short, CW30 is very hit and miss.
This year I've seen No signal at all at the start of prime,
no HD at the start of prime just upconverted SD,
no audio at the start of prime,
once they even had part of Smalliville airing in the middle of Supernatural (or vice versa),
I've also seen Closed Captioning from Smallville airing in Supernatural (again, or vice versa).

As your site lists, 5-2 is the upcoming Universal Sports. 5-2 used to be dark.
Ah, okay. I thought the implication had been there was a third subchannel that I didn't know about.

At the moment, I'm leaving the static image on 5-3 off my listings because I imagine it will go away when Universal Sports launches. If it doesn't and is replaced by some additional SD service, then I'll add it.

I'll inquire with an engineer from KSL who posts on another forum.

The static image is on 5-2. 5-1 is the main channel, 5-2 is Universal Sports, which, at this time, has the static image, and 5-3 is NBC Weather plus. Your site correctly has 5-1 and 5-2 listed, but 5-3 is omitted.

Is that Ken?

Yep. I've sent him an e-mail since he hasn't been on that forum in about a week.

I also went ahead and added 5-3. Thanks for clearing up just what KSL-DT is doing. I'd gotten confused by the numbering. =)

EDIT: Got a response. Universal Sports launches on 12/15 on 5-2 and at some point after that time, a new less-bandwidth-intensive service will launch on 5-3.

Does anyone know what frequency KSL will broadcast on in St. George after the hard switch Dec 15? They are currently on VHF-8 and it is marginal signal at my location.

Also, any idea on when/if CW will broadcast digital in St. George?

Thanks

Does anybody that lives up my way rely on an antenna instead of paying a cable/satellite bill?

Also, does the HDHomeRun get work over a wireless network?

If you haven't purchased yet, I have heard from a number of sources that Terk antennas are overpriced and don't perform. I used an Antennas Direct DB4 in Herriman and I get excellent reception. http://www.solidsignal.com/manu/antennasdirect/

As for wireless, I tried it once. The HDHR datastream was a little too much for my wireless G network. N would probably work. You're much better off on a wired network though. The chance of your neighbor firing up a new router and killing just enough signal to break your wireless HD signal is enough to keep me from messing with it.

Digital Signals in Morgan, Utah?
I'm sorry if this topic has been discussed but does anyone know if there are digital signals in the Morgan area. I have a friend who live in the Morgan area who is buying a new digital tv and is wondering if he can receive off-air signals in Morgan.

I looked in previous posts and noticed that Ken mentioned analog signals but was not definate on the digital signals.

Any help would be appreciated.

Anybody in SLC having problems getting abc4 (aka 4-1, 4-2, etc.)? A couple of days ago, I seemed to completely lose reception and haven't been able to get it back. We live near the point of the mountain in north Lehi...

Just started working again...must've had problems at Farnsworth they just fixed!?

Take that back now...4.1 & 4.2 unwatchable due to very poor SNR

I am having the same troubles. I tried to contact them, but it looks like their broadcasting form is broken. Does anyone have email contacts for ABC 4's engineering dept.

I live just south of the Point near Micron. It has been out for the past few days. Would like to have it back at least by bowl game time. Maybe they reduced their signal strength.

Sure is annoying, we never had these problems with analog.

Going through my TV, channel 4 shows a signal quality of 45% and I get nothing. Going through my DirecTV AM21, I get pictures. I just figured it was my antenna (broken post) and my AM21 was more sensitive than my Hitachi.

I am having the same troubles as previous posters. Channel 4.1 and 4.2 recently went out. My signal strength is extremely low - 28/100.
This channel has been working fine in the past. I noticed the problems a few days ago.

Here is KTVX's contact form - let them know!
http://www.abc4.com/content/about_4/...g/default.aspx

I should have noted - I am in West Bountiful. Large antennae in attic.
