Still no new HD channels yet through Comcast in Sugar House. Hopefully we'll see them in the next few weeks, since they've been appearing in my guide for over a month. I'm ready for more HD!
I'm in Sugarhouse as well, and my friend downtown is still waiting for the channels to show up as well. I'm very happy to hear news of TCM HD and will also watch Comedy Central HD. I've heard bad things about IFC stretching their images and other crap, but hopefully they've got that sorted out by now. I was a fan of MGM HD before they inserted commercial breaks into the movies, then I stopped watching. So unless they've done away with the breaks, I won't watch. TCM was my most-wanted channel, so props to Comcast on that. Now I just need HDNet Movies and more of the premium suites and I'll be happy.

Does anyone else find it amusing to watch the lip-sync problem during the World Cup Final? The delay is as bad as I've ever seen it. I've checked it via Comcast and directly over-the-air. And I've checked it on two different TVs. I don't know where the problem lies. Obviously, neither do the people at KTVX. The video is maybe a half second before the audio. Maybe channel 4 needs a new motto. How about, "Video first! Read my lips."
KTVX's lip-sync was very close on their OTA signal when I checked, but it was a mile off on Comcast in HD. Comcast analog was about as close as the OTA, though.

My friends and I didn't turn the TV off after the game, partly because of the hilarious Ronco knife infomercial that came on after it. Here's the funny part: The infomercial was in perfect sync, but once ABC4's regular programming resumed post-World Cup ("Talking Pictures"), it was out of sync again.
Sounds like they have some issues when taking network audio in stereo vs taking a feed of the 5.1 surround.
About 2 months ago my signal strength went down to 65% for Fox 13. From antennaweb.org it looks like the signal for KSL, KUTV, and KTVX all come from the same location and their reception is fine. My antenna is DB8 Multidirectional HDTV Antenna It has been installed for 3 years and I have never had any issues with Fox 13.
For those interested, I called Comcast and asked if they had any information on when the slew of new HD channels would be activated in my area (Sugar House), and I was told August 5th. I'm crossing my fingers that holds true.

They threw the switch last night for downtown.

Nice! Too bad I have to wait another 2 weeks before I can behold the glory of Travel Channel and Comedy Central in HD.

It seems to me that after months of problems, the audio delay (lip sync) issue has been largely corrected on KTVX's feed to Comcast. It looked better to me on both SD and HD.

Has anyone else noticed a change for the better within the past few days?

Anybody else notice that ION (KUPX-TV, Channel 16-1) is now being broadcast in 720P HDTV?

Looks like I didn't have to wait until August 5th after all---I came home after a long weekend last night to find all the new Comcast HD channels are now live in my neighborhood (Sugar House). After months and months of no new HD channels, I'm seriously elated!
Interesting that Sugarhouse would be so slow in getting new HD considering that the headend is in Sugarhouse.

Looks like KUCW has fixed their PSIP generator.
Yaaaaah, Bob!

Any idea when Comcast will light up all the new HD in South Jordan?

I just want to know if the government will subsidize my new 3DTV box?

Yea they will. They subsidize everything else, so why not subsidize your 3DTV.

Anybody have a recommendation of a long-time reputable DirecTV installer around Salt Lake?
Does anyone still have the letter from comcast for West Jordan? I thought the new hd was already suppose to be here...but no sign of it yet. I threw my letter away so I can't remember the date that was listed.

Is it time to rename this thread, "Salt Lake City, COMCAST"?
Does anybody here watch OTA any more?

All of my local channels are watched OTA.

DirecTV for the rest.

Comcast only serves my internet needs.

And, you may even have TIME for some of that stuff, now that KJZZ is outta there.
Amazing what quadrupling the workload does to Master Control Operators.
(Did you guys get a network affiliate, or another 48-feeds-a-day "indie"?)

I've returned to OTA and will never go back to Comcast or satellite. Why pay for all of the channels that I don't watch when I can get local HD channels for free over the air and the rare good cable shows with Netflix streaming directly to my TV? $9/month compared to $75+ a month? I'd rather support my local TV channels than wonder why my money is going to ESPN 19 or The Underwater Basket Weaving Network (now showing 80% less underwater basket weaving in a vain attempt to be a clone of all of the other cable channels).

CNN Money and Yahoo Finance have posted news articles about consumers moving away from cable/satellite to return to OTA with streaming options. I've discovered that more and more family and friends have already made the switch or are strongly considering it in the future after coming to me for advice.

No wonder comcast is worried and wants to buy NBC.

Well,
I have had problems with reception with my trusty rabbit ears for the past 4 months, so I figure it is time to investigate an antenna route. I don't have an
attic crawl space, so what do you guys suggest? It is a rental house, with no chimney to use for foundation.
I went to Radio Shack, but their antenna looked just O.K. and the price was very high.
Should I take a stroll down to Raelco, or is there something that would suffice.
I don't need much, as I was just short of a good signal with the powered rabbit ears. But need something.
Thanks,
Lyndon

When we had KJZZ, we were running 8 stations out of here.
When KJZZ left, we added a replacement, so still running 8.

Replacement doesn't have any syndicated as of yet, just a 24 hour a day feed with local break insertion.

Already had 3 "indies", well CW and MyNetwork affiliates, so only 2 hours of prime M-F, rest of the 24 hour day is syndicated.

4 are 24 Hour a Day feeds with local breaks.

Still don't have time to "watch" anything while at work, so all my watching is DVR based and on a much bigger screen.

This from Radio Shack has been installed on two houses I've lived in.

It was $25 when I bought them, they want $35 now.
Can mount anywhere as long as it can see the towers on Farnsworth.
Could even stick a pole in a 5 gallon bucket of sand.

Thanks for the word up, Jerry.
I don't know what the kid at the Sugarhouse Shack (that sounds like that B-52
song) was thinking. He showed me a box and said it was $100. And that the Shack didn't carry any other models.
That makes me want to drop by the one on State Street tomorrow.

Whew! I always heard that TV people have an easy, cushy job.

Now you know why I go home at night and watch channel 2 (and, 3, 4, 5, and 6). Turn on the analog and wait for the "snow" to melt and a trace of Mexican TV to come hopping in via e-skip.

Much more soothing than watching local TV and waiting (by force of habit) to see if something breaks.

How do you handle EAS? Must be fun to juggle 8 different logs, especially on Monday morning. when somebody has to check them out. Don't even get me started about AMBER alerts or bad weather, with dozens of incoming and outgoing messages across multiple stations.
