Salt Lake City, UT - HDTV - Page 107

When talking about RSL matches, they have been referring to KUSG 2.2 for the past several weeks.
KUSG 12-1 is the same as KUTV 2-2.

Makes me wonder how they can carry the same programs as KJZZ, just an hour or two later.
I can only see one program that KJZZ and KUSG (KUTV 2.2) both air, Swift Justice with Nancy Grace.
No idea how that happened, unless KJZZ "serves" the Salt Lake City market, and KUSG "serves" the St. George market.

I guess no one mentioned that both stations are easily viewed in both markets.

2.2 still has This! programming, just less than half the day now.
Not a bigwig, so no idea what thinking was going on behind the change, but surely $$$ played a big role.

I wasn't sure how many shows were carried on both 2-2 and KJZZ.
I just noticed Nancy Grace, because she is from my old neighborhood, and looks exactly like her brother did when we were fourteen .
Okay, 2.2 is a copy of 12 kusg.

ThisTV plays during weekday afternoons, and weekends. The rest of the time its syndicated carp, oprah, Dr Phil. I can sure get my fill of Phil up here in cache valley.

If ONLY we could get CW... (I could watch Saturday Night Live)
Or IONtv...
or Tuff...
or RTV.

I wish Franklin County and Cache county would TALK to each other and decide we don't NEED channel 5 on 4 different frequencies, and put on something different on the way underutilized translators we have.

Ouch! Really that woman annoys me. One thing for sure I haven't missed since going OTA.

What channels are these? I have never heard of them.

She's really a very nice person, but the "show" requirement is that she be very hard and sarcastic. My brother knows her, having worked on videos for the Methodist Children's Home, where she is a major, major contributor (time, as well as money).

Explain this a bit. I'm wondering if you are getting translators from multiple sites, or is something going on that we don't know about.

He is getting translators from multiple areas BUT I'm reasonably confident at least some of them are operating in violation of their license.

Here are the three that I can find off-hand (he'll have to point me to the fourth; I have a document which claims there's a KSL feed on channel 39 for which I can find no license):

K45GL-D: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1265134
K33GF-D: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1287883
K40GZ-D: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1287887

Now K45GL probably serves at least some people who cannot get the other two. K33GF also does likely serve a somewhat unique audience. But K40GZ appears to be serving as an STL for K33GF, which as I recall, is illegal. It has complete overlap with K33GF and is highly directional and aimed right at K33GF. The county seems to have this going on with all of the translators that are co-located there, thus people in the Preston area see duplicates of everything even if they cannot receive the Logan translators.

Other parts of the state get KUPX and KUCW on translators but Franklin County, but because of this setup of questionable legality, have the band jammed full of multiple duplicates of the networks instead.

There's always too much complaining going on in forums like these, so here's some non complaining.

Seems that KUCW finally figured out the problem with their prime time CW.

Vampire Diaries and Nikita both had HD video with matching audio and closed captions this week.
Haven't watched Supernatural yet, but not as worried as I was last week.

Only 3 CW shows I watch in the privacy of my own home for entertainment.
Sort of have to watch the rest at work where I don't really watch.

These are small networks that for the most part are available only OTA. I believe SLC area is supposed to be getting TUFF, and I know it has ION, Qubo, and IONlife. RTV is locked up by a contract in the southern part of Utah, and therefore can't be seen in northern UT.

At least you get CW... I am waiting for franklin / cache to come through with funds for CW. My daughter wants Vampire Diaries, and I want Saturday Night Live.

Shame SNL can't be on NBC because of some tomfoolery on KSL. (POKE, Poke ---> kenglish)

Thanks, Trip.

Yea, it's a mess, kenglish! Franklin has applied for licenses, for example, to transmit KUTA (Logan LP) back into its own viewing area, and applied to overlap several networks from Idaho affiliates into Utah - many applications had not even asked the originating stations for permission. And on several applications, the county engineer has signed, where a county official was supposed to sign.

I get KUTV 2.1, CBS, from Mt Pisgaw, and also from Franklin. I also get KIDK 3.1, CBS, from Franklin. Clear overlap, there, but I don't mind, since KXPI 3.2 (MyNetwork - AGAIN! )- shows Elvira saturday at Midnight... and 2.2 doesn't.

I'd just like to just THANK kenglish and Trip for doing the work the FCC should be doing. Seriously, Trip... the FCC needs you, because they're all clueless.
I'm only getting stereo on KTVX (ABC) OTA in SLC. Anyone else experiencing this?
Perhaps kenglish has an answer for this...

On some of my TV / Set top boxes, I get a second audio, I believe its KSL-Fm. Some sets don't see that audio. Do you know why this is? BTW, the robomusic on 5.3 primary audio is really annoying and repetitive... just sayin...
There is a "hidden" audio channel on 5-3, that feeds a few translators for KSFI-FM in areas where the incoming translators have been displaced by new stations.
It's usually set where it can't be seen by most receivers (except professional ones), but it sometimes gets turned "on" (in the clear) for a day, so new receivers can be locked in. Technically, it's not "being broadcast" on TV, for copyright purposes.

As for "RoboMusic", we get calls from people who want to BUY a CD of it . But, it would be nice to commission a new version....we actually pay to have that music made for us. I don't think it's a major priority to management right now, money-wise.

Someone asked me this morning, "Was KTVX off the air for several hours Sunday afternoon?"
Just heard that they were off the air, due to a failure in their transmitter cooling system.

I wonder if that's what locked up my DirecTV DVR.

Came home Sunday night and none of my recordings recorded.
(actually didn't find out till Monday night, but Sunday's recordings were the first that didn't fire off)

If it happened to be tuned to 4 when they went off, they could be to blame.

Can't think of anything else that might have caused it.

Yea, I always get the 5.3 "hidden" audio on certain recievers. Others don't know its there.

RoboMusic would be less annoying if it didn't repeat so often!

4 disapeared from my lineup the other day too, from both Logan and Preston.

Trip:

K40GZ-D: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1287887

This is one of those translators for preston, id that's actually in Utah.

BTW, I zoomed on the site and the actual translator location is maybe a mile north of the marked location.

Finally, a subchannel for Fox 13!

Antenna TV is schedules to start programming January 3, 2011. No clue as to when FOX 13 will start.

I wonder how they'll do it.

Right now they are the only station in the market not following the common sense rule of .1 is the main channel.

13.1 is a stretched SD channel
13.2 is the main HD channel.

All my DVR recordings are set to record 13.2, if they change it, I will have to start over and reprogram everything to record from 13.1.

Maye they'll go to 13.4 just to make us wonder why they didn't use 13.3.
Trip (rabbitears.info) lists it as 13.3. I just got an Email back from fox 13, asking where I found out. I told them Antenna TVs web site. They seem surprised that anyone knows, and there is no official announcement from fox13.
I'm listing it as 13-3 because I can't list it as anything else. I suspect they'll flip the HD to 13-1 and put it on 13-2, but to list it as 13-2 with the HD there at the moment would be more confusing.

- Trip
Makes sense, Trip. I hope they are planning to drop the SD and move the FOX13 hd to 13.1, and make 13.2 the AntennaTV spot. I don't know why they put HD on 13.2, anymore than I know why they would simulcast the same thing in sd.
