Looks like KPDR-LD has been sold. The new owners say there are some legal issues to be worked out, concerning who is actually in control at the moment, so no one is sure why they are off the air right now.

Maybe we'll hear something soon.
KPDR-D filed to go dark at the FCC. Transmission issues.
That's gonna come as a real surprise to the new owners.
Where did you see that? Is it something very recent?
I found it. Looks like it was filed by the sellers...maybe because the new owners asked them to file (temporary at least) when I told them it was off the air.

They are on Ensign Peak. I'd suspect the power is OK up there, with so many other folks on that site. I wonder if their transmitter or antenna are damaged by weather.

Also, they had two of the five channels dead, and one without audio, when I saw them last.

Thank you. The buyer was not aware of the notice to go dark.

Several months ago you posted a thread about a new fiber optic line going south to the cable head end in Cedar City. Do you know if that was completed?

The head of the translator/ LPTV department of the FCC media bureau said there was over 600 translators in Utah.

A fiber would free up a great deal of channels used as relays and lower the cost to the counties in Utah.
The fiber optic system has been up and running for a while. It won't replace translators, though. It supplements the translator system, which doesn't carry all of the Salt Lake stations.
Most translators have a considerable number of direct viewers, even though some are classified as "relay" sites.
Several years ago the translator relay system in Utah was replaced by microwave through out the state. This relay freed up translators having
to daisy chain to every corner of Utah.

According to the FCC CDBS, KPDR filed to move to Farnsworth peak and is on public notice for 11/18.

That is going to create problems at that height. In addition, its location is a 1/2 mile north of the KSL Tower and down the slope to the tower/ storage building.

At that location Davis County north with get a good signal. I wonder what Ron is going to think about a signal coming straight at his channel 19 near Lewis Peak.

There was a reason KPDR channel 19 was at Ensign, but hey, lets see how a co-channel overlapping contour map operates.

OET 69 study does not demonstrate the actual interference, just the predicted interference.

Interesting to say the least.

Is that on the Bengerter Communications antenna site?
Don't know, I thought it might be Utah Communications. Interesting location and looks like limited access in the winter.

I've been noticing signal breakup and/or digital artifacting on KUTV-HD via Dish Network for a few days. Anyone else noticed this via direct reception or Comcast?

According to the FCC, the proposed KPDR site is about 0.4 mi due south of the Bangerter tower.

I haven't seen any issues either OTA or on DirecTV.
There's a "protected" receive site for the Ham Radio repeaters somewhere near there.
Channel 4's signal strength is markedly lower today. Anybody else notice it?
KTVX had problems with their power amp about a week ago, and they are currently running at very low power.

Their people are up there right now (yeah,....holiday weekend ), installing a new tube and all the parts around it. They expect to be back to normal tonight.

Rumor has it that KSL 5.2 will turn off Universal Sports on January 1st 2012 and replace it with the Live Well Network..........

That's too bad. I love their cycling coverage...and have recently started watching the rugby matches. I will certainly miss Universal Sports.

Why couldn't they nix that useless KSL Weather on 5.3 instead?

I know, I know...there's a difference in the bandwidth they dedicate to these two sub-channels...but still...

Maybe we could start an "Occupy to keep Universal Sports on 5.2", huh?
I could see this coming when the FCC allowed Comcast to purchase NBC. Comcast could see dollar signs by putting Universal Sports on pay tv.
On Another matter, I reviewed the college bowl game availability. The bowl games start on December 17th and finish on Jan 9th. There are 35 bowl games. Used to be we could watch most of them on broadcast tv. Now ESPN has acquired the rights to the majority of them leaving broadcast tv with 3 minor bowl games out of 35. What a shame that most of these colleges that are subsidized with public money are denying these bowl
games to the general public via broadcast tv by selling the rights to ESPN.

Because the local weather subchannel isn't being made cable-only by NBC. http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/2...ticast-outlets

I think we will see a lot of "testing the waters", by Comcast putting a show on NBC just long enough to build a potential Pay-TV audience, then flipping it to Cable.
I still suspect that the "Playboy Club" was just such a "test'.

You got it before I even heard....
"Live Well" network will be broadcast on 5-2, in letterbox SDTV, beginning at 5:00 AM on January 1, 2012.
A one-hour local avail slot will be used for a daily (one-week delay) re-run of KSL's locally produced "Studio 5".

The network originates in 720p HDTV, but KSL will only have bandwidth for 480i SDTV. The network also will not allow widescreen SD, so it will be letterboxed.
Looks like K18FJ, Trinity Broadcasting System, is back on the air in analog, from Farnsworth. The FCC shows them back on as of December 6.

Really? Someone might want to tell WVEC, WTMJ, WCPO, WPTV, WCNC, WXYZ, WFAA, KXTV, etc.

Sounds like they simply "suggested" we not do SD WS.
With your info, we might do it differently now...it will better match our SD-WS "KSL Weather", and KUED's SD-WS channels, too.
Thanks

That would be great, Ken. I get pretty frustrated playing with format options on various TV sets and converter boxes. Make it WS, and let those with 4:3 TV sets deal with it themselves - besides, those old 4:3 SD / CRT TV sets and converter boxes are being replaced in huge numbers lately, since the price of HDTV sets has dropped.

I think LiveWell is a better choice for a subchannal than NBC-US, considering the limited bandwidth you have to work with. Anything with a lot of motion really looks bad at low bitrates, and universal sports just didn't work well at all.

Although I was REALLY hoping KSL - or someone in SLC - would pick up Luken's PBJ network. You know, for the kids. Yea, for the kids, that's the ticket.

I think anyone could have seen this coming. And as always, the FCC put it's money-colored glasses on and approved it, only to have one of their commissioners take a job at Comcast right after it was approved. The current FCC's unstated goal is to kill OTA TV, per the FCC's broadcast TV hatchet man, Benjamin Stuart. I fully expect more of these type of shenanigans from the FCC, Comcast, et al. in the future.

By the way, CORTEZ, Co? I am jealous. I've seen your market on rabbitears.info, and that's a LOT of channels - what is it, over 60 now?

We have full-time QUBO on the ION network, so PBJ might be a good one to add. I'd like to see a couple of the Spanish channels use their excess BW for something like that.

I don't get ion networks up here in the Cache Valley, and I don't think Cache or Franklin county have plans for translators for them. And whats on Qubo is a lot different from PBJ's classic cartoons. I agree, I would also like the Spanish AND religious stations use their excess bandwidth for something like that. PBJ would be a good fit for religious stations.

Which brings up one of my pet peeves. Why don't Spanish channels have SAP in English, or at least English CC?

Speaking of wasted bandwidth, KUTF-DT1 (Channel 12.1) - Daystar is back on the air. ONE single SD channel. I'm actually happy that I don't get it because my antenna is pointed 90 degrees away.
