It's in HD for me on 13-2. The HD commercials are pretty cool.
No problems here -- HD all the way. Nice as ever.
i was getting occasional audio & video dropouts (maybe one every 10 minutes), even though my myhd mdp-120 card was getting 75-81% signal consistently. was this a national or local problem? did ne1 else experience these dropouts?
I was getting pixellation every 10 or 20 minutes too (as well as the occasional audio dropout), but that's typical for me with Fox being 40+ miles out and only having a SilverSensor in my attic.

The broadcast itself looked really nice, although I started to resent (its a cool commercial - don't get me wrong) the Ford Mustang commercial almost as much as the "Hey Ted (or whatever his name was) whatcha doin'?" Sony commercial from the olympics.

No FOX HD signal at all for me (13.2). I had to watch the D*TV Fox network feed. I live in East Layton and haven't been able to get the Fox feed now for over a week. My equipment has not changed. I have a large raised rooftop antenna with a direct conflict free sight line to Farnsworth Peak that picks up all other locals without any problem at all -- Just nothing from Fox.

Why I got a good FOX HD signal a week ago but none now is a mystery to me. All I can assume is that the local Fox station LOWERED their signal strength or changed something or had some glitch. But it definately caused the loss my ability to receive the signal. The problem is not on my end, but on theirs.

I wish they would get it fixed so I could watch "24" tomorrow at 8:00 PM instead of watching the D*TV Network feed of "24" at 10:00 PM

See my thread (stickie) about PSIP changes and needing to rescan.
It was my dad's receiver. When we rescanned it worked and was HD. What a difference going from SD to HD (especially on a 90" screen like we had). Thanks for the replies.

I rescanned yesterday and 13.2 worked! I rebooted many times before without success, so I guess a "rescan" is the trick. (I thought that rebooting automatically rescans, but no?) My 13.2 signal is wavering in the "normal" strength range. It is not great, but adequate. I am about 40 miles from Farnsworth Peak using a roof top antenna in East Layton.

Is Fox going to be boosting their signal soon? The only thing I have wanted to watch on Fox was the game and my antenna wouldn't pick up an adequete signal.

I can't see purchasing a higher powered antenna just to watch one or two programs a year.

I also asked when they would be boosting the signal and he indicated that it would not be until April or later. He said that their schedule has been pushed back by the network and not by the local station.

Here's to hoping all goes well with the Super Bowl.

According to the above, look forward to a boost in April or later.
thanks. did you ever get an answer whether Dish will provide a Satellite feed until then?
Did anyone else notice the changes in Fox13's broadcast recently? It seems as though they're doing what KSL was doing a while ago where on their -2 (HD) sub-channel, they broadcast SD (like the news and some commercials) that's a bit "stretched". I'm still not sure which I like better, as I was a bit torn on the subject when it came up with 5-2 (can't put my finger on exactly when that was). Anyway, I don't think it was my receiver, as it varied depending on what was being broadcast and only affected 13-2.
yes, i have noticed it too. I don't watch fox when it's SD material anyways so it doesn't bother me.
FOX13 getting boosted April or later? Sheesh, my problem lately hasn't been signal strength. Rather it has been horrendous multipath. It seems like I just can't win - I usually have low strength or good strength and multipath

I've got an old Samsung SIR-T151 HD tuner, and I noticed last night that I could not get 4-1, 4-2 -- nothing, I rescanned several times and nothing. Any ideas?

I have a built in HD tuner on my other TV and it works fine. Am I destined to buy a new tuner? If so, any suggestions? Thanks.
I've got the same tuner and both Lost and Alias were flawless for me last night. I don't think I ever checked 4-2. Have you installed the firmware update from Samsung yet, by any chance? I have the update but haven't installed it, FWIW.
smartbomb,
I have an old Samsung TS160 D*/off-air HD receiver and I remember reading something in another forum about a broadcast flag upgrade for the Samsung HD receivers. If I am not mistaken this broadcast flag is sent along with the digital signal to restrict copying of the signal (maybe Ken could shed some light on this). Anyways, if I remember right the Samsung HD boxes needed a software update in order to receive the off-air signals once the stations switched to this broadcast flag thing.

I don't know if this is your problem but if I were you I would check it out anyway, maybe search the AVS Forum/HDTV/Hardware section of this forum or the Samsung web site.
That's the same update I was referring to. I haven't installed it yet but I still receive all channels just fine. I don't think I'll actually do the install until absolutely necessary.

Email ABC4 Engineering at engineering@abc4.tv
ask Bob to check the PSIP info for compatiblity with the Samsung tuner.

i'm getting a lot of audio dropouts on numb3rs tonight. ne1 else?
We had major Metadata problems at the beginning of Numb3rs, but it should have been better after the first 2 minutes.

Did the dropouts happen throughout the show?
After the starting problems, I monitored it more than normal throughout the hour and didn't see/hear anything here.

My audio problems with Numbers was for the first few minutes as well. I switched to the analog 2 until the first commercial. After that, back to 2.1 and everything was fine for the rest of the show.

Too bad "2 News" isn't as nice looking as 5. I'd rather watch 2, but can't stand the difference in picture quality.

If you are a D* customer and you subscribe to the Local Feeds and you have an HD receiver, D* has to give you the CBS West and Fox West HD feeds.

D* has made arrangements with all four major networks to allow a national HD feed to all owned & operated (O&O) markets, of which KUTV and KTVX are.

i actually missed the first few minutes of numb3rs. my audio problems were for the rest of the hour. they would occur every few minutes. annoying, but they didn't make the show unwatchable.

i feel exactly the same way you do about the 2 & 5 news.

I have just joined the ranks of those who receive HDTV/DTV. I'm seeing a strange problem on 4-1, details a couple paragraphs down. Had I known/realized that the relevant standalone tuners were willing to output 480i signals I would have done this long ago, as my analog vhf reception leaves something to be desired. My house seems to be located in some sort of dead zone.

Anyway, I just picked up the Samsung T451, and after some initial panic with it not finding anything (although it paused longer than normal on 36, 38, etc) I was able to cure it by rotating the antenna somewhat (I hadn't yet corrected it since the last major windstorm twisted it) (an RS outdoor VU-something or other i've had for years). Unfortunately on FOX (28?) it finds absolutely nothing, and doesn't even pause as if its trying. Apparently fox is very hit'n'miss as there seem to be people north of me receiving it, and people south of me who aren't (i'm in Ogden). When I manually go to 28, I don't even get one signal bar. On kbyu i'm getting 6 signal bars and #7 flickers on occasionally. (and #6 flickers off occasionally). Antennaweb seems to think kstu doesn't even exist digitally, and at the moment I'd agree with them 8)

However, whats most concerning me at the moment: on KTVX (abc) 4-1 there is a line of pixels, maybe 10-20 or so pixels wide near the top of the picture and slightly to the right of center which are blinking to black approximately 3 times per second. This seems to be happening only on 4-1. It is not there on 4-2 or any other channel. Its there all the time. Is anyone else seeing this? Since its only 4-1, I tend to not think its anything wrong with the receiver, but on the other hand, I haven't found anyone else mentioning it, and perhaps 4-1 is unique from all the other channels somehow, causing the receiver to only exhibit this problem here.

Also, on 11-1 KBYU (pbs) the N in "casting" and the R in "org" blink about once a second.

Are these "normal" (being transmitted this way) or do I have a defective receiver I should try to exchange? (its less than a week from the store).

And does anyone know if its possible to directly tune to the subchannels (either with its remote or a programmable remote), or is one stuck with things like "enter channel number, hit channel up 4 times"? (which is a further annoyance because one must wait until its tuned in the current channel before you can hit channel up/down again, *and* it won't let you "watch" anything in the guide for which there is "no data" as the program info)

I have the receiver in 480i mode connected only via its s-video jack at the moment so I don't know if these problems are showing up on the other outputs or other output modes yet.
xxiii, don't worry, I see the flashing pixels on 4.1 also. I'm using the built-in OTA tuner in my Sony KDP-42WE655. I also see the same thing that you mention on 11.1 and, finally, I don't get Fox either, and I'm in West Layton (I'm just using a Terk set-top antenna, though).
Whew, so difficult trying to explain these things to sales droids sometimes. I had a hard enough time trying to get across that I was looking for a receiver that didn't say "cable in the sky-TV" on it...

I checked this morning and my antenna is still about 8 degrees off target, so perhaps i'll try to align it better tonight and see if I can get the receiver to at least briefly pause as it goes past the kstu frequency. (and cure my weather problems. during the rain saturday, I lost 3 or 4 channels).

i'm having a problem with fox hd using my fusion card to record. when i play the recordings back using a myhd mdp-120, i get short, complete audio/video dropouts. it happens 1-3 times per hour, & it causes me to lose a few words of dialogue. i don't get a black screen or anything; it's more like someone has cut a small portion of the show out & spliced the film back together. it's like the scene "skips" a small amount.

i also sometimes get a phenomenon where i'll see parts of a scene in the wrong part of the tv screen. imagine the old days of vertical screen adjustment where you could turn the knob & make the bottom part of a scene appear in the top part of the tv screen. i get a few instances of that happening when i watch a recording.

are these problems due to so-called "multipath"? if so, why would they only be occurring recently? i've had the same antenna for 16 months, & i've only noticed these problems in the last few weeks.

thanks.

I wonder if you just need to de-frag the disc drive. HDTV takes up a lot of disc space. Might be that you are seeing glitches as the drive jumps around to different spots on the disc, where it found space to write the data.
I have the same skipping/picture jumping problem with channel 13 using a Zenith HDR-230. I've thought about actually watching a show live on KSTU to see if I don't have the problem live, but that seems a bit drastic. I'd say it happens to me four or five times during an hour show. And it only happens on channel 13, none of the other channels do it.
