at night - with movies - it bothered me - but it may not bother you - i would first try it for first 30 days - once you will keep it - and it bothers you - change out the fan - i never had one problem and i play it loud with music -
just get a good fan - 24volt model - not the computer fans - and try to get a high CFM to Low rpm - try to match the original as best you can -
i got mines at digi key - website - was close enough match for me - never gave me a problem and i dont hear it at all
the amp kicks ass - thats for sure - smile.gif
price wise its great also - if i were buying one today - i might just get the GX7 -

Did you use this fan from Digi Key? I feel like replacing the fan because it is becoming more and more noticeable.

Just received a new energy smart power strip and the same thing is happening. Model is SCG4E. Bought it from amazon. I have strip turning off the amp when the AVR turns off. I'm still trying to see if I can somehow plug my problem device into another outlet or just get one of those 3 prong to 2 prong adapters.

I would steer clear of a cheater plug. If the amp is close to your avr run a ground wire to each chassis. The Onkyo will have a binding post designated GRD.

Ok, I'll try that out. Thanks. The buzz is really annoying lol.

Several higher end power strips come with ground isolators.
You would think all power strips would have isolators in them.

I'm still loving this amp though. So much power for such low cost. My future amps will now be Pro Amps.
Problem has been solved for me. I just ran my problem device to another outlet. No more buzz!! smile.gif

Next step is just the fan now.

Chief, do you find the blue LED light annoying on the GX? If so, did you just put black tape on yours?

i dont remember the excate model i got - but looking over those specs - i think it may be it - they look good

as long as its a 24 volt model - going to be very guiet once you change it - i never hear mines now and never had an issue with over heating - i doubt it very much - mines is in a Rack but not closed in - open rack - and i put tape over my blue LED also - i used masking top with black marker - and it dimmed it down where its ok now - i see it but dosnt blind me
post #4811 of 4947
i just found the package which i scanned when i got the fan - to keep in case i needed another one and it matches your specs there - so YES thats the same fan i got -

i got two of them just in case to have handy -

you will like this fan

I don't cover it. It actually looks cool and matches my blue HD light from my Marantz.
The light is just too bright for me. Amp sits about a foot below my TV. Also, I like seeing the green lights flash when there is sound.

Glad to hear you got your hum sorted. I meant to warn you about the light! I find it extremely distracting and cut a piece of 1/2" foam large enough to cover the spot lights on both amps for movies. For music, I let it shine. tongue.gif

I took expresso's idea with the tape and marker. I used scotch tape and black marker. It dimmed it down to a good level. Not as blinding anymore.

thats great -- i think it does a good job to just dim it down but keep it blue - when i sit back to listen to music - the amp in my Rack was almost eye level when i sit back to relax and it was really blinding -

now its there but not blinding - smile.gif

hey guys - just wanted to say so long - this has been a great trend - about the GX5 amp - fan etc, - but lately AVS in general has been going down hill - i hate the new look - and i just got my first notice of being a bad boy -

i posted something to find out about DVD FAB 3D software - how it works for others etc, - and got a few idiots to respond in a childish manner - they might have been on the Rag or something -

anyway - besides this Trend about the Amp - i dont use AVS much at all and decided its time to jump ship to a different Forum - maybe Home theater Shack ? and start a new GX 5 trend there -

its been nice sharing all this info, -

these other guys were like babies - ran and reported me like babies - all you had to say is - hey dont think its good idea to post that or whatever - etc, etc, - i didnt think it was such a big deal -

all well -

by the way - does anyone know how to actually delete your account here ?

thanks -

Don't leave expresso because of a few idiots. Just ignore people when irrelevant comments are left. That's what I usually do. If you do leave, pop your head back in once in a blue biggrin.gif

I am not too sure how to delete your AVS account though.

How in the world do you remove the stock fan? I'm trying to replace it but the fan will not come off. Is there a special way to remove it? It feels like it is glue onto the mount. I'm working with a QSC GX5.
Nevermind...i managed to change out the fan. Much much quieter than the stock fan. Only thing i hear now is silence smile.gif

Care to share how you removed the stock fan?

Also, can anyone provide a link for a replacement that is proven to work with the GX-5.

Cheers!

Oops sorry lol. I had to remove the two screws near the heat sink on the board. Than I had to lift the board slightly and pull out the mount that the fan is set on. Then it took me (way to damn long) 10-15 minutes to remove the fan from the mount without breaking any of the clips. Was really frustrating because i only have TWO HANDS lol. I first removed the fan from the side with the one clip. Than i did the other side with two clips. I cut the the wires and soldered the new fan to the wires.

I bought this fan from Digi Key....http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/OD8025-24LB/1053-1263-ND/2621168
Cost $13 incl shipping.

Ive just bought a couple of Crown amps. An old XLS 802 and the newer XLS 1000.

The 1000 is quiet but the 802 is better sounding to my ears. However in my listening room the fans on the 802 are loud.

I really think these sound way more solid than the Emotivas I have and so far im preferring them to my McIntosh MC202

Im still not sure what would be good replacement fans.Any suggestions?

wow, this is a very famous thread, can't believe it's still going. It should be re-titled "Implementing Pro Amp's Into Your System"

I ordered a Crown XLS 2500 this week and got it going today. It has tons of power !! Fan is very quiet and barely runs at moderate volumes.
So far I am very pleased with it and will be giving it some serious listening time.

I will say I did have a very small amount of an AC hum in it though, so I simply ran an extension to an outlet on another circuit. No more hum smile.gif

Yea, only down side is the hum with these pro amps. I fixed my hum issue too in a similar fashion. Too many ground connections on the same circuit. I now want to get a second pro amp to power my center speaker. I'll be searching ebay in the coming months for a good deal. All i need is 300-400 watts for one channel.

Do you experience any hiss with the XLS? I dont hear any hiss with mine in a quiet room even with the gain at max.

Presently my gains are at the one o'clock position and with the AVR volume at minimum I can hear hiss if I am about 8 inches or closer to the tweeters.

Really? I have 2 XLS 1000's and 1 XLS 2000 and I don't have any hiss even when I have the gains on the amps turned up all the way. These new Crown XLS's are awesome.

I guess you mean at your listening position you don't hear the hiss. I hear hiss only when about a foot away like lapayne.

Glad your enjoying them amps.
