Sony Service menu - Page 9

Could someone describe how the Service Menu looks and how to get out of it? My kids and I have triggered some sort of service/diagnostic mode on our 30HS420 by accident a few times using the remote, and it would be nice to know how to back out of it gracefully. The mode we've triggered blacks out a large box in the middle of the screen. Usually a few letters of text appear in this box which may be the code for whatever command it thinks we entered on the remote. The only way we've managed to clear it is to shut the set off and then on again. Also, how do I undo whatever command I inadvertantly enter in this mode, if the kids and I happen to really mess things up in this mode some day?

The recommended method for exiting Service Mode is, indeed, simply to switch off the TV. Not very graceful, but it works!

Settings you change inadvertently in Service Mode will be reset if you turn off the TV, then unplug it from the mains. To save new settings you have to write them to memory (by hitting Mute then Enter on the remote) so unless you've done this you can always get back your factory settings.

You might want to start putting that remote on a higher shelf. :)

I would greatly appreciate it if someone would forward to me the .pdf version of the Service Menu.

I have the 34xs955.

Thanks so much.

Okay folks, Jeff here has been kind enough to reformat this jumbled Excel spreadsheet into a nice clean PDF. It's much more friendly to use and should look the same on Mac and PC.

You can download it from my web space here.

Thanks Jeff!

(Having finally got hold of a real Sony service manual [XS955/XBR960] yesterday, I now know that this homebrewed spreadsheet actually tells you more about what each setting does than Sony's 419 page version!)

Ayton, that pdf file is for only the xbr. It even shows the settings to be set for twin-view. The xs955 doesnt have twin-view. DO NOT USE ANY OF THESE SETTINGS FOR THE XS955. Here is the one for the xs955.

I think you misread my post. I have a genuine Sony service manual, which covers both the XS955 and XBR960. It is, however, copyrighted to Sony, and over 22MB in size. This is not the PDF I'm posting, for those reasons.

The homebrewed PDF I'm posting is just to help people figure out what many of the parameters do in the service menu, since many Sony models share the same service items. It's useful across most models, including the hs420.

A very helpful thread for those who want to tweak the service menu.

Hello KyPen,
I have the sony KV-27FS120 and this set has trouble displaying true red.
Red seems to be a little orange or a little maroon.
Please send the service menu for this set at garhow9@aol.com

Please ignore, I just read KenTech's post.

Kypen,

Please send me a copy of the service menu list too.

Thanks,

Dave

Since I am new, I can't seem to post my email. Do you have an address that I could email you at with my address?

Does anyone have the newest service menu for the 30HS420? Mine was made in November of 05 and it's SM is somewhat different than older versions. I'm just trying to see if anyone has stumbled across some luck finding this or if anyone has truly figured out which settings to adjust for screen size in different scan modes.

p.s. please don't reply with a link to KenTechs post, I have been through it and asked and no one is really sure about it.

KyPeN, Please send me the Sony Service Menu information you graciously offer to members of this forum. I need it for my KD36XS955 to do final calibrations. I can't post my email address because I am a newbie.
my email handle is "z1michaelj" and I live on a "sbcglobal" server that uses "net" as the extension. If that is too cryptic or out of bounds, please let me know how I can obtain a copy perhaps by emailing you personally?
Thank you very much. Michael (z1michaelj)
