Amarillo also has the PBS station (Channel 2) in HDTV, but no 5.1
ABC, NBC and FOX are standard digital...no HD.

KGW (8) should be DD5.1 capable they passed through HDNet's 2002 Winter Olympics in 5.1 (with many issues, but still), but I haven't seen any from them since. Has the network even put out any 5.1 material?

Here at ABC 4 in Salt Lake City, we do broadcast DD 5.1. Of course this only happens when we are sending out the ABC HD feed. When we upconvert it is just 2/0.

PBS: The public network cites budget constraints for delivering only a handful of HD programs in 5.1. Of its 340 affiliates, 233 made the transition to HD as of February 2004, and all are capable of passing through 5.1

This was reported earlier, but seems to conflict with some of the reports. Could it be that the stations are capable of pass-through, they just never have any 5.1 broadcasts?

  • Las Vegas, NV abc

Should be:
  • Las Vegas, NV - ABC(13) - pbs(10) - cbs(8) - nbc(3)

Our ABC has DD5.1, but none of the other stations are passing it. Fox and UPN may upgrade this summer or fall.

LOL!! I got excited when I read on antennaweb.org that my local PBS (WACS which is part of GPTV) was going digital on 07-07, and was excited until I realized that they weren't talking about July 7th, but July 2007.

Charleston, WV - WSAZ(3) NBC HD and 5.1

I know they are 5.1 because they lost the center channel last week during L&O and when the station engineer replied to my e-mail regarding this he told me they had a problem with the equipment sending out their 5.1.

Philadelphia, PA ABC(6) - CBS(3) - fox (29) - pbs(12) - nbc(10) - upn(32) - wb (17)

If you look at the ABC listings of each city, any city that has no channel number (New York, San Fran., Dallas, Seattle, etc.) are cities that have not yet had anyone report in with their HD offerings. Those cities' listings are likely to be very incomplete.

I added ABC, FOX, and WB affiliates from a database, so that info will be listed without any reports. Obviously NY has a much more substantial offering than listed at this time.

CP,

The KY (KET network) situation is a bit odd. I do know that the DD5.1 "light" has never lit on the statewide feed (aka KET4.) I suspect this may be because of bandwidth issues (multicasting 1 720p + 2 480i streams - plus there's some datacasting lurking in there also.) The second Louisville station does not have these constraints. Anyway, I've verified that "Soundstage" is indeed 5.1 on WKMJ but only 2.0 on KET4. Perhaps our kindly KET chief engineer will appear and explain the reason.

A lot of states have a statewide PBS network setup - apparently somehow that screws up the DD5.1 pass-through. According to the article, all HD stations are DD5.1 capable, but clearly what ends up at the antenna is not DD5.1.

Sacramento (DMA 19) should indicate:

ABC(10) 720p DD5.1
CBS(13) 1080i DD?
NBC(3)1080i DD?
PBS(6) 1080i DD?
FOX(40) 720p DD5.1
UPN (31) 1080i DD?
WB (58)1080i DD?

I live in a state with a statewide PBS network setup and I can pick up two PBS-HD stations. Neither one ever lights up as DD5.1. I was pissed when the Sheryl Crow concert came on a couple weeks back.

The following channels pass network HD in a couple of Iowa markets I'm familiar with:

- Des Moines-Ames: CBS (8-1), NBC (13-1)
- Cedar Rapids-Waterloo-Iowa City-Dubuque: ABC (52-1, doesn't map to its original 9 yet), CBS (2-1), NBC (7-1)

I don't personally get 5.1 at home, but I know ABC Cedar Rapids is definitely putting it out when available because I've witnessed it. The rest I'm not sure about.

Actually, what I meant was just waiting on my station to broadcast digitally. There is still 4 (I think) stations in my DMA that have yet to broadcast a digital signal, with one of the PBS's announced as starting a digital signal in July, 2007. I have no idea when the other three plan to start broadcasting.
