Tivo can access OnDemand?

Only in limited areas unfortunately, and it's taking Comcast forever to roll it out to all.

They are taking forever, but it does work very well.

It's available in the SF bay area and while I don't have it myself there aren't too many posts in the local Comcast thread complaining about it, in fact, I don't recall seeing one for quite some time, most of them were when it was first rolled out.

Yep, I see we don't have access to it here. That has and always will be a problem with Comcast, we never seem to get the goodies until way late in the game. The main reason I'm with Directv is because whatever they have everyone can get it, unfortunately not the case with Comcast and most all the cable outfits.

I am using my TiVo with cable card to watch on demand for over 6 months, no issues. It's rock solid. I live in Fremont.

Hello All,
Thinking about the TIVO premiere 4, the one with 4 tuners. I've got a dual tuner TIVO now using a Cable Card. How would the setup be with the additional two tuners and the Cable Card. Anyone also using an external HD for additional storage. Thinking about a nice 2TB HD should be sweet......Thanks in advance, Mike
post #11830 of 11882
Way better to upgrade the internal to 2TB if you get the 4, or just get the XL4 and have it already. I have an Elite with the 2TB and it's plenty. Externals double your chance of a failure taking all your recordings, if you really need more than 2TB offload to a PC with either kmttg or pyTivo.

Thanks for the info.....that actually would be a more secure way of dealing with all my recordings. I guess i would put my existing tivo in my sons room and replace it with the Premiere XL4. How many cable cards do they use , do you know. ?? Not looking forward to dealing with Comcrap on that !!!. Amazon has the Xl4 for $40 dollars less then BB......ill use my Reward Zone money and then have BB price match. Thanks in advance SlowBiscuit......biggrin.gif

You'll need just one m-card for the Premiere 4. I suggest picking an m-card up from your local Comcast office and do a self install. Call the Comcast cablecard hotline at 1-877-405-2298 to set the card up once you have it in. They are much less likely to screw something up on their end. I've never had a problem setting up a Tivo and cablecard going this route.

The CableCard Setup Wizard will walk you through the process. I also suggest connecting your Tivo to the internet and powering it up prior to installing your cable card as it will take a couple of hours to setup the Tivo and install the latest software.

Need help. I live in Stuart FL (west palm beach area) and just switched to comcast, i have the RNG200. I went through the HD setup menu and selected both 1080i AND 720p formats. However it is broadcasting EVERY HD channel in 720p. Does comcast do native pass thru format in the stuart/west palm beach FL area? thanks.

Does this happen immediately after you change the setting on the cable box? Some of the Comcast boxes have handshaking issues which cause the resolution setting to be lost. I have a Motorola DCX-3400M which defaults to 720P any time I power my system back up after having my AVR and TV turned off, regardless of what setting I choose.

Many users have reported that connecting the cable box to the TV via HDMI while feeding an AVR with an optical or coaxial digital input resolves this problem.

Note: RNG200 is a generic Comcast identifier that specifies the general capabilities of the box you have. If you search for the actual manufacturer and model name (likely on the rear or bottom of the box) you may be able to find a thread for the specific box you have.

it is the cisco model. if i take away the 720p option it then broadcasts every HD channel in 1080i.. But when i select both options, it chooses 720p for every HD channel. i have unplugged and replugged the HDMI cables several times with no help. Just want the channel shown in its native format. This is very disappointing. Any other advice is appreciated? Thanks.

Question for Comcast Xfinity Internet users. I've had my Arris tg862g Gateway cut off/reboot itself periodically each month since signing up in December. Is anybody else experiencing this behavior? I've noted it mostly happening when

engaging in downloading certain...err...urm, files.

The gateway never seems-or I've never noticed it, rebooting with regular usage, or when streaming from Netflick or Vudu, Youtube, etc. It's..unnerving that it only happens when doing that spoiler cloaked activity.

You have actually selected "native" output right? I believe that is separate from checking the formats your TV supports.

In my March bill, I just noticed an unannounced "HD technology fee" which I'm guessing is their special way of making up for the supposedly "free" first cable box. We had no explanation, no warning, just a $9.99 fee tacked on. Because they are calling it a fee they can claim they have not increased their "rates" so they pretend to be competitive with their promotions. I am so very tempted to walk away -despite the fact that just three months ago I renegotiated a supposedly stable two year price and free HBO. Now the cost is inching back up - and more important - I hate doing business with thieves. This increase was unannounced (which really pissed me off) and apparently is being phased in to various markets. From what I've read online, even tho we are already paying for a high def plan, and paying for the hi def boxes...and for the additional outlet.. this new "technology" fee is to allow the HD signal to come into your "whole house". Really???? It's like Starbucks charging you for the cup, and the coffee, but if you want that coffee poured INTO your cup, there's an unannounced extra free. I will wait til I cool off a bit to decide, but this might be the final straw.

Oh, and while I'm at it - are any of you having issues with On Demand HD requiring unplugging before viewing. This was going on for two weeks, but as soon as they 'opened up" the free access to on demand at the end of March (a "Watchathon" for a week, I think) , I havent come across it. Trying to figure out if it's a RNG box issue (it doesn't happen on my old motorola), or if it's a provisioning issue. Guess if I cancel, the problem will be moot, but it's kind of annoying to have to unplug and re-do the channel lineup every time I want to watch HBO HD on demand. (It works for a day, once restarted, then the next day we have to unplug/replug again for HD on demand. It's not happening on Showtime, which makes me think it may be an HBO access issue?

Happened to me last night here in Howell mich, Comcast on demand kept locking up, said I had a loose connection....so wrong.
My daughter was trying to watch House of Anubis on Nick.

That sucks but call them. I might be wrong but it sounds like you might have upgraded to a Triple Play and gotten a 2 year price guarantee. Unless things have changed and/or are different in your area, there is a chance that they entered an incorrect code when setting up your promo. Either way, I'm sure that you don't have a contract. Use that to your advantage when you call them.

Here in Groton, CT, I am seeing horrendous local re-compression. We're on a 650mhz system that for some reason hasn't been upgraded to 860mhz or not, not sure if that plays into local re-compression. I was watching CBS last night for basketball (normally I only watch PBS and cable channels), and it was awful. It was constantly breaking up into MPEG-2 macroblocking. Anyone else seeing bad local channel compression, or is this a local issue? I can tell the triple-channeled cable channels, and they are degraded, but they look amazing compared to the locals at this point. I'm also wondering when we get upgraded to 860mhz, as we're missing ESPNUHD and some other miscellaneous HD channels.

My real hope is that the other cable company, which just got bought out, does some serious upgrades to compete with Comcast, but that remains to be seen...

CBS has been looking awful for all of the March Madness games across the country. Don't judge anything based off that.

Even if you are under contract, Comcast can still tack on fees.  Unfortunately once they decide to add the HD Tech fee to your bill, there's no way to get rid of it.  I even turned in my HD cable box and they refused to remove it claiming it's needed to get HD on my cableCARDs (I spoke to several reps including a higher up executive support person).

The only exception is if you have one of those HD Triple Play packages that Comcast was touting awhile back which have the HD Tech fee built in.

What's weirder is how it varies by area whether it's an equipment or programming fee. Luckily, in my area it's an equipment fee, so I don't pay it since I only have a CardCard.

And have you mentioned to them that some areas (including the ATL) do not get hit with this bogus fee if you have cards? No one in the ATL has posted at AVS, tivocommunity, thegreenbutton, etc. that they get stuck with the fee for cards only. It's only in some areas that people get screwed by it, and it's just another example of how screwed up their billing is.

g

Yeah, it's totally inconsistent from system to system and market to market. Just like everything else they do.
