HS-HD1100U and D-Theater won't work???

I am trying to buy a HS-HD1100U D-VHS, I know I can't record D* nor E* so the only reason would be to record OTA and "BUY" several movies that I like.

WELL: Surprise, surprise. I just read here that D-Theater works only for JVC D-VCR's.

Is there any other format at stores besides D-Theater for HDTV movies?

Thanks

I've never seen D-Theater in any store (I order on line). HD.net sells D-VHS programs that will work the Mits VCR. Microsoft has HD wm9 titles for HTPC viewing.

D-Theater only works for D-Theater D-VHS (JVC and Marantz). Why don't you want to get a JVC?

Store meaning retailer or online-retailer. Are any "movies" in non D-Theater format besides HDNet shows? If Microsoft has HD. Are they "good titles"? Where can I buy them?

Yes I am thinking more on getting a JVC insted, but price is important. $150 a mit vs ~ 400 a JVC on eBay.

Doesn't the Mits require firewire connectivity?

Also check netflix. Seems like when I was researching, they popped up as a D-Theater supplier.

Yes, no integrated MPEG decoder.

Just know that reliability issues aside, the JVC D-VHS decks are the best consumer-grade VCR's made. The onboard MPEG2 encoder means you can digitize SD material with no perceptible loss of quality, and get 3 times as much material on one cassette as an ordinary VCR. Oh, and they record HD through IEEE1394 and play D-Theater too. I love mine!

There is also a newer model coming out that's also got HDMI connection, if that's important to you.

I got the Mitsubishi HS-HD1100U because D-Theater was not that important to me. Reliability was important to me and the JVC is notoriously unreliable. The Mitsubishi is notoriously reliable.

The lack of an internal MPEG decoder is not that important because if you are going to record over the air you need a firewire equipped STB. With a fiirewire equiped STB you then have an MPEG decoder for the VCR.

By the way the MIT MDR-200 is the firewire equipped STB I use and it is an outstanding STB for a very reasonable price.

I have Mitsubishi Diamond (55813) and, as far as I know, I don't need anything else to record-playback HD, is that correct?

Now... Besides that. Can I buy any "non-D-Theater" titles somewhere? I mean movies... Good clasic movies. Lord of the rings, Matrix, etc.

Nope.

HD Net has non D-Theater tapes but they are mostly tapes of its shows such as Bikini Destinations and travel shows. To my knowledge HDNet offers no movies.
