Also: I noticed this in the "notes section" on the bill
With DirecTV I get all the channels like your dad (waaaay more HD channels) but also the Encore suite, 35 regional sports networks, WHDVR with 4 HDDVRs and 2 HD receivers, and Verizon FiOS 25/25 (not 15/2 like Cox) for $218/month (including ALL taxes/fees/surcharges)...

I went to the Chesapeake store to get a new remote. My "cable" button had stopped working. There were at least 3 others there picking up new remotes.

Is that the only channel you are having that issue with?

There are a few others that stutter sometimes, but 1024 freezes solid for up two 5 seconds everytime we tune to it.

Couple questions;

I can "order" my services online and save about $50 a month by agreeing to a 1 year contract, is their any catches with this?

if I order a cable card, does cox allow self install and would I be getting everything I do with a HD STB except lack of guide/demand?
I know this has been asked many times before by myself and others. I've seen that you (Occasio) have some press releases coming but do you have any updates on when we may see the new HD channels (most important to me FSC HD with the EPL starting in a week) that were said to come 12/21/2010 or later (which is now much, much later)?

You need to understand that the discounts are for services only...Several months ago, I was able to renew for 2 years with a small $7/ month savings..What I wasn't prepared for was Cox's increase for their equipment. That discount went from a savings of $7 a month to an increase of $14 per month... i.e. a $21 increase...Yes I was pissed....Just read the fine print.... I did have a cable card many years ago. They would not allow a self-install for this..You have to pay for a tech to come out, put it your TV and then call a number to activate it. This took all of about 15 minutes and $35 added to my bill.......It might have changed, but I'm not sure.

arent self installs allowed now?

Yes, CableCARDS and SDV Tuning Adapters are available at any Cox Store, and self installs are free. The Cox CS Reps are not really up to speed on the self install process though.

My self install on Wednesday of a CC and SDV TA only took Cox 3 Hours to correctly provision and activate!!!!

No it's not here in Hampton, the weather channel might be the worse channel for locking up but not the only one. Many other channels are spazzing out and my DVR box still has the occasional reset. It's really getting to be beyond belief how Cox can get away with such crappy service.

I don't think we're ever getting new HD channels...

Don't worry, I am sure that we will be getting new HD "soon".

Not unless they are added to Trio

That sounds like an isolated issue. Do you know if your neighbors are having similar issues? I have a good friend who lives in Hampton & he has no issues. Feel free to email me you contact info at occasio.gee (at) cox.com and I will get someone to follow up.

No catches. Less people to pay when you order online. If you do the cable card you still want a tuning adapter b/c it is needed for some channels.

WOW how many boxes do you have to have had a $14 increase? We just started doing self installs like last month I think.

1 HDDVR and 3 other HD boxes.....Went from a $7 reduction for two months. Then Cox raised their costs for equipment and it went up almost $20...I called your Customer loyalty dept and one of the reps "found" an internet "special" and was able to knock off $5....Why not just git rid of all the "specials" and give everyone the same price??

What does it take to get a live local tech to reset all the local analog channels?
Almost an hour with all locals frozen.
Just received my bill and found this in the notes. "Effective on or after September 13, 2011, Cox Hampton Roads will
launch 27 Plus Package HD channels which include SWRV HD, Cooking Channel HD, Outdoor HD, DIY HD, The HUB HD and
several HD Premium channels. These will automatically be offered
as part of a subscription to the Plus Package that includes the new
Trio Guide and any of the following: Whole Home DVR and/or
Expanded DVR Storage. In order to align these HD channels with
their non-HD counterparts, Cox will be realigning the Premium SD
channels from the #150's to the #300 channel block. Likewise, the
current HD Premium channels will move from the #1150's to the
#1300 channel block. There is no change in service level or content
with these channel # moves. The old channel locations in the 150's
and 1150's will be removed on September 27, 2011. In preparation
to offer additional International content in the future, The Filipino
channel currently on 392 will move to 507 and GMA Pinoy currently
on 393 will move to 508. No change in service level or content.
Consumer-owned devices equipped with a CableCard may require
an advanced TV set top receiver or Tuning Adapter in order to
receive all programming options offered by Cox Advanced TV."

I currently have Cox TV Starter, Expanded Service, Advanced TV (qty 2), Cinemax, HBO, Shotime, Starz and 2 HDDVR's. I see that it mentions 5 "regular" channels and several premium channels. I don't see FSC HD included in the "regular" channels which is just awful to me. Am I reading the above right and thinking that the new channels that are coming to HD I'm going to have to pay for to get these new channels? Or are they included in what I already pay?

did u try power cycling or holding down the power button on the box?
