and the #1 reason i havent switched from Cox, as the whole TV, Phone, Internet for XXX / month was only that low for about 12/24 months after that it was just about at where i am with cox if not higher depending on channel packaging.

I'm receiving $10/mo off a month for Internet ($64.99/mo). I've been with FiOS just over 3 years...

Costs didn't factor into my decision to go DirecTV, and FiOS data and voice. I knew with FiOS Internet I was going to get better speeds (and prices). Didn't go with FiOS TV only because I have DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket. Just couldn't let that go. DirecTV's HD quality is probably just a tiny notch below FiOS TV...

OK, after dealing with space at less than 50% yet again with only 4 half-hour HD shows, I'm considering the whole home DVR. Is it possible to get it self-install yet? If not, is there any way I can get it without paying for that installation fee?

Let us know if you can.....I called Cox last year and asked the same question. I was told that all the boxes had to be synced together and that a Cox tech had to do this. I would really love to have this service. Just not willing to pay the $40 fee to get it.

Still no self install but there are specials from time to time.

i know people that have nothing but good things to say about WHDVR, then I know people that have nothing but fits with it, (and these are the people I've built the Ceton Equipped DVR/HTPCs for).

then there's people like me, that are waiting for self install,
I have an elderly parent that does not want ANYONE in his house for anything.

Later this month I'll be replacing the 2nd line from the service entrance, as one of the idiot construction people decided to tuck my line behind the siding, and PUT A EFFING ROOFING NAIL THROUGH IT, while he was putting on the siding. and it took me 2 years to track that down, as the signal levels were Good, but certain channels would still refuse to tune, and the same channels were always scrambled on the 2nd DVR but not the first. I noticed when i was adjusting some stuff that the signal would drop if i moved the cable, so I removed the siding panel that was over the line, and low and behold the source of 2 years worth of headaches and signal checks/scans. etc

So I have to completely replace that line, nice.

occasio, If and when I choose to get the WHDVR, what will my will monthly bill increase to. I now have 1 HD DVR and 3 HD boxes. How much more per month will i be paying?? I know the one time installation fee is $39, right??

Thanks,

Bill
i think you'll be paying less, if im not mistaken. or at worst $5 more.

Yep. Had someone swap two DVRs to two WHDVRs (networked) and they just had to pay $5 more per month total. Basically swaps one set of $7.99 equipment and $9.99 DVR service fees per box for another set and adds the $5 Plus Package fee.

The only reason I don't have WHDVR yet is because they won't let me install it myself. Dangit, guys, just because I'm not a field tech doesn't mean I can't put a MoCA PoE filter on my own tap. cool.gif

wasn't there something about a deleted recording recovery. can't seem to find it per the instructions on the whdvr box.

also it is real nice watching the nhl finals right now, well it would be if instead it wasn't showing a sorry no signal detected message.

Ditto...

Cox Has Until August, then Im gonna go ahead and just re-wire my Cat5e and Build a 6TB Ceton 8 Tuner Box.

AMD FX8150, 16 GB of RAM, 3TB SATAIII x 2, SSD for the O/S, 3 Tuners Max for the main TV, everything else will use Xbox 360s as Extenders (as I have a few of them and remotes for them).

You should just bite the bullet and do it now, I don't foresee Cox ever offering self-install on the WHDVR.
Plus with a CableCARD solution TiVo, Ceton, SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime, you save the $5-$10/mo fee for the Plus Package channels.

For anyone considering an HTPC solution, one item to consider, currently the Intel Core i3/5/7 Intel integrated Graphics HD 2000/3000 does not support the Cox MPEG4 (H.264) channels. There appears to be a Graphics Driver issue. A simple fix would be to just use an inexpensive dedicated graphics card, instead of the Intel Sandy Bridge HD Graphics. The Ivy Bridge most likely suffers the same issue.

There is a thread on the issue here:

I wouldn't say never, but no time soon will you see a self install on the whole home because of the networking software currently used, not the actual cable connections.

Im working on a new Setup.

with the hardware listed above
AMD FX8150, Watercooled
32 GB of Ram,
2x 3TB SATA3
Discrete GPU (havent decided yet)
2x Ceton InfiniTV4,

However, Im gonna Split the CPU and Ram Resources,

Windows7 Ultimate, Running A Virtual Machine Windows 7 Ultimate.

4 Cores Dedicated to the VM, 16GB of Ram dedicated to the VM, VM will use the 2nd 3tb HDD for its image. 1 Ceton Card will be forwarded to the Virtual Machine.

So I'll have the Native win7 install, 4 Cores, 16 GB of Ram a 3TB Drive and a Ceton 4 Tuner Card for the Physical Box and the TV its hooked to,

From there I'll have the VM Running Windows 7 off the 2nd 3tb Drive Minimized, and have it running with the other 4 cores, 16GB of Ram, and the 2nd Ceton Tuner, and all 4 tuners networked.

2 HTPCs in one, one for local use, the VM for Networked Use. tongue.gif

The problem will be trying to get the VM to properly setup the network bridges. If Not, I'll just set all 8 Tuners up in the Native Windows7 and Force 4 to be networked. but that limits me to using 1 HDD instead of 2, (unless WMC added Spill drives feature somewhere.)

just checked my speed and my modem logs looks like cox now has 4 bonded upstream channels
post #7372 of 8011
Any news of any upcoming changes to Cox carrying analog channels as they now do? May consider my options in the near future and that could have an impact. Thanks.

Jim
Not to my knowledge. We are looking at a few different things but no major exodus of the analog channels.

Did anyone else lose some local channels tonight? 7-1, 7-2, 10-1,10-2, 13-1,13-2,43-1 all out on QAM for several hours now. The corresponding digital channels are not tuning in on my STB either, it just says "Temporarily Off Air" for 1007, 1010, 1013 and 1014. They are still running on the analog channels and OTA. I did a fresh channel scan over QAM thinking maybe they had been remapped but didn't have any luck finding them, I should have check the HD box in the other room first then I would have known not to bother with a scan.

Same thing here. I noticed it last night. 1003 CBS for me is working as of last night. Last night 1007, 1010, 1013 and 1014 are "Temporarily off air". I called this morning and they said the techs are aware of the issue and are working on it. These issues for me don't typically last over night. I hope they get this fixed soon.

The HD locals are back up for me. 1042 is off air for me as well. Not a good weekend so far. Hope no one had any Father's Day plans to watch MLB on TBS. I'm watching the Euro's on ESPN so no worries for me so far.

TBS is blacked out right now because of the MLB TV broadcast rights agreement. If you want to watch the game you need to watch it on MASN (channel 1039).

Ahh...thanks. That is very helpful. It's a shame that the message on screen couldn't say something to that regard instead of "Temporarily off air".
