This DCX3200-M is even smaller than those older units without the time display. It's only 10 5/8 inches wide, 8.5 inches deep and 2 inches high. This box does display the time though it's fixed to a 12 hour display, I would prefer military time but I'm just happy to have the time display function.

I have problems occasionally with SD channels going "temporarily off air". Most of the time I fist need to change the channel then back for it to be fixed.

if it's the Motorola Overlay over the picture that says off air, I usually just hit pause then live and it goes away, and I can rewind back after the overlay is cleared, I also can clear it by pressing power off/on on the dvr box.

The DVR System Overlay doesnt affect the actual Signal being recorded, its simply a System overlay that is displayed overtop of the image (similar to GUIDE/INFO etc) and triggered by events (ie low signal strength or something).

there's been weeks when I come home from work, turn on the TV, and have the "Off Air" Overlay on everytime. regardless what channel is left on.

Cox Expands Home Security

Adding to its comprehensive portfolio of communications services including high speed Internet, cable TV and phone, Cox Communications now offers Home Security to customers to help keep their loved ones and homes safe. Cox started piloting the new product in Arizona last year and plans to begin launching additional markets in 2012. (read more - PR Newswire)

I actually think this is a cool idea... why not do it?

as long as it's not Remote Camera Recording (Cameras on Property All send Data Stream back to Server on Cox's property), Which Can be "exploited" and "Disabled" rather easily.

CCTV with Entry Point Sensors and Emergency Call Buttons, just dont stick them on the Cable remote... i dont wanna accidently press a Blue POLICE Button instead of a Blue ON Demand Button.. haha.

I have had the same thoughts but I think part of the cost for monitoring is also included.

What would you do for monitoring?

do you really think someone sits and watches feeds all day?

I'd Rather have direct Line to Emerg. Services Via The Panic Buttons I already have, not a button to call cox and tell them to call Emerg. Services.

I can setup my panel to send me TXT Messages whenever a Window Sensor, Door Sensor, or Motion Sensor goes off, as well as incorrect entry codes on the door lock, I get the text, I can bring up the camera feeds on my smart phone or laptop.

I was concerned that you had no way to contact the Emergency Services, if there was a need and you weren't available. Would you explain what you mean by panic buttons? I would like to know because I am thinking of doing something similar. I rather not pay those fees.
you can buy thermo stats / panels now, that you simply run a phone line to it, and when the panic button is pressed it dials emergency services and either sends them a code (based on button pressed) or opens an intercom w/ emergency services operator.

Buttons can be activated remotely via mobile app to alert police (ie, you're away on a trip, you phone gets a txt alert that the window sensors tripped, you look at camera to see someone in your home, press the Police Button and it will dial them from the home and send the signal, silent/audible alarm trips

Are they doing an update to the DVR box tonight?
Both my DVR boxes have reset 4 times in the last hour.
Makes it hard to watch the ball game I have recorded.
I hope it's an update that fixes some of the problems with the DVR's.

Same here, all those updates were very annoying. I had to give up watching cable and watched several episodes of Trailer Park Boys on Netflix with my Roku instead.

So is cox really looking to get the old grey remote turned back in, have gotten about 3 emails on that so far.

I've also gotten those off air messages often. Usually when I direct dial or select through the guide. Just hit the channel down/up to reload it usually works. Had several problems during the olympics that some of the tertiary nbc channels would take an excessive amount of time to load though (not surprised though, had same thing during nhl playoffs)

On the good news, while rearranging my den I found that the hdvr box has been revised to allow an active hdmi output along with component.

And finally, unless I read the story wrong espn just doubled what they pay to mlb, so be ready for the next round of "tell cox you want to get raped on your bill, visit www.iwantmybloodsuckingespn.com" at next contract renewal. Was hoping when the recent dtv dropping channels dispute happened it would do more to control these going insane channel cost, but they caved in way too early.
I haven't heard anything about one but it's pretty common place that they will spam large numbers at a time with those phishing attempts.

Really Cox, I can only use the iPad app to watch TV on my home network? Why wouldn't I just watch the TV? Ugh...first world problems.

I don't see the point in this either. Yes, I can see it "can" have uses but using it away from home would be much more well useful...

When i was testing the ipad back in January the DirecTV ipad had the same restriction for live viewing, only on home network. not sure if that has changed.

Still the same, at least it is on my wife's iPad. Home network only.
how does that work anyway? Hook the DVR to the Router?

or is a A Simple MAC/IP Address thing...
with cox i would imagine once you are on you home wifi, the apps would know your using a cox ip address, then it would allow you to use the app based on your login information.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cox-tv-connect-for-ipad/id474096909?mt=8

with D* you connect your DVR to your router. there are multiple ways to connect, mine are hard wired. If you have the newer style SWM setup, i believe the installer would connect an Ethernet cord in the room where your router is, then, all your stb's would have internet connection. however, i could be mistaken because i dont have the SWM setup. and of course the final step is connect to you wifi with your D* login information. The app scans your router to see what receiver's you are using, you can also view what items you have recorded on the app if i remember correctly.

It's not only that it has to be a Cox IP. It has to be your IP at home. I can't use it at my login information anywhere but my house. I've tried at my parents, my in-laws, and at work all of which use Cox HSI. It tells me that I'm not on my home network. I try with their login info on their network and it works. I don't really see the point of the app if I'm not able to watch anywhere but at home. Maybe to watch TV on it in the bed with headphones but the channels are limited and there's no DVR access.
