Nice to come home and find your cable box stuck on some mysterious software update. Even better when the online chat system is turned off because they're "busy".

If you have a Whole Home DVR with the update message, power cycling my DVR fixed my "update" problem.

If we have any available. There of course is a run on those boxes. We took most of our employee's boxes back and u/g them to WHDVR.

Anything going on in here? Mighty quiet.

I haven't had a chance to try and switch out my boxes for the ones with the 500 GB drives. I will say that my internet speed is been pretty bad lately. I have to say my neighbors must all be taking advantage of the their data that's for sure.

occasio - Still waiting on an answer on this one if you want some activity in the thread.

Im still replacing lines in my parents house, but I was doing landscaping (trimming trees and stuff, and I was looking at the service lines for both Dominion and Cox.)

Both need to be serviced, dominion's service line is pulled/stretched and exposed. the last "hurricane" we had, the fire department was here responding to a call that our service line was shooting sparks. most likely because the tree branches from the tree in my neighbor's yard is leaning on the lines.

The Cox Service drop has an extremely worn section, just before the metal clamp that secures it to the building (like it was pulled through the clamp when the aforementioned tree branches were leaning onit.), if I can take pictures I can. I also inspected the Line running to the back room, the one that's had a problem with FAM HD, HBO2HD and a few other channels. when the guy re-did the siding for my father, not only did he put a nail through the line behind the siding, but he also put a few nails through it to hold it up off the ground in the back of the house.

So.. .Most likely Im gonna remove that line from the splitter at the end of the service drop. Run a New grounded line 20 feet into my room, buy a ceton tuner for my PC, and watch TV through my PC, and set a network Tuner for my brother to watch TV on his PC or TV and another to my other brother's laptop.

I'll prolly look into calling cox regarding the service drop soon..

My Father still has his DCT6412 box in one room, and the 2nd room has a DCT6416, so one is 120GB and the other is 160GB.
My studio Rig has 12TB of unused Storage... So, Putting the Ceton Tuner in there and setting one of the 3TB drives for Windows Media Center Cache and letting everyone record whatever they want.

Im waiting for firmware updates to the Ceton Devices, as well waiting to see if they are gonna release any 6 tuner cards, or the 6 Tuner DVR System soon, which can also be configured to share tuners over the network. not to mention Ceton has some nice Apps. and other systems i've built work flawlessly using Xbox 360's as extenders.

Seeing as the External Ceton Boxes are no longer on NewEgg, and the 4 tuner Internal Cards are $20 off, I think the 6 Tuner/Q will be coming soon.

Cox should look into a deal with Ceton.

Maybe respond to "Just Mark's" post...

Also, Any future plans to get ESPN 3D????

The number Cox's 3D shows are very limited....with popularity of these TV's growing, I would expect more of that type of programming

You may wish to read this AP article: http://money.msn.com/business-news/article.aspx?feed=AP&date=20120928&id=15612270 (and several others) before stating 3-D television popularity is growing. The market is not there to support the providers rush to obtain new 3-D programming.

hmm

should I be concerned with the amount of SPAM mail in my Webmail SPAM folder that actually Use Contact names of people I've emailed before?.

Considering I dont use Outlook 2007 anymore, only once every few months to download and clear the webmail inbox. But havent used it in over 60 days.

I got spam messages in my SpamBox with Names of Contacts that I've just started emailing in the last 2 weeks.

Strangely enough 90% of them are Facebook Contacts.

Kind of a damned if do, damned if you don't scenario....I see the research firm quoted in this article expects the number of households with 3-D tv's to triple after the holiday season. I am sure the viewership is down because, as in the case of Cox, programming isn't being offered. Cox has 3D On Demand, but it's the same shows have been there for 3 months. I would love to watch the ESPN 3D channel, but it isn't offered by Cox. Offer it as part of the programming and I am sure the viewership would go up.

I haven't read the article yet. I think its also a situation that people have 3d TVs but do they have them for watching of 3D tv?

This is a known Facebook issue.

"Recently, we discovered a single isolated campaign that was using compromised e-mail accounts to gain information scraped from Friend Lists due to a temporary misconfiguration on our site. We have since enhanced our scraping protections to protect against this and other similar attacks and will continue to investigate this case further. To be clear, there was neither a mass compromise of Facebook accounts nor any leak of private information.
To help protect our users, we've built enforcement mechanisms to quickly shut down malicious Pages, accounts, and applications that attempt to spread spam by deceiving users or by exploiting several well-known browser vulnerabilities. We have also enrolled those impacted by spam through checkpoints so they can remediate their accounts and learn how to better protect themselves while on Facebook.
Beyond these protections, we've put in place backend measures to reduce the rate of these attacks and will continue to iterate on our defenses to find new ways to protect people. In addition to the engineering teams that build tools to block spam we also have a dedicated enforcement team that seeks to identify those responsible for spam and works with our legal team to ensure appropriate consequences follow."

Would be nice option to have. I don't have a blue ray player, so I can't watch 3D DVD's. It was really nice watching the Olympic 3D coverage.

I would love for Cox to pickup this channel. It's called beIN Sport. Here is some info on the channel. It is the only way to watch El Clásico today. Last year it was on FSC but this channel now has the rights.

beIN Sports is a new dedicated sports channel available in the USA. Launched in August 2012, the channel is an initiative supported by Qatar Sports Investment. The channel will be trying to establish itself as the "new home of football" for soccer fans in America. The channel has acquired an impressive portfolio of TV rights for the US which will certainly target a big segment of soccer fans in the US. Currently beIN Sports is negotiating deals with various US television providers. Availability of the channel's programming will be limited to DirecTV Ch 620 and 9620 (HD) and on Dish Network DISH’s America’s Top 250 package as well as on the DISHLatino package. (Channels 408 and 871). As of August 23, 2012, beIN Sport will also be available on Xfinity TV by Comcast. beIN SPORT en Espanol will be available on the MultiLatino Package and beIN Sport 1 wil be available on the Xfinity TV Sports Entertainment Package.

The channel will expand it's availability to new US TV providers in due time. New announcements expected in late August.
beIN Sport 1
Acquired rights:

England - Capital One Cup (2012-2015)
England - Championship (2012-2015)
France - Ligue 1 (2012-2015)
Friendly (2012-2015)
World Cup Qualifying (2012-2014)
South American World Cup Qualifying. USA World Cup Qualifying Matches - Away.
Italy - Serie A (2012-2015)
Spain - Copa del Rey (2012-2015)
Spain - La Liga (2012-2015)

I would love to be able to watch/dvr all of these matches especially the USA World Cup Qualifying away matches and would welcome the ability to watch everything else they have rights to broadcast.

Hey, what's up with my WHDVR and client box? Both have been intermittently flashing the message Ed98 for the past three days, I called tech support, and they did a reset, but it did not fix anything. I called Cox again, and now there's a recorded message saying there's a problem. I can't tell that the boxes are not operating correctly otherwise, but the flashing is getting a bit annoying. Anyone else got this issue?
I'm seeing the same thing but I have no idea why. I'm going to check w/ my teams today to see if they know why.

So Mark I was kind of ignoring you because I can't give the answer yet....lol....I know thats an odd answer. I have some info to give in the very near future.

Let me apologize, it's just taking longer than I expected to relay the answer.

FWIW: In Cox San Diego (and I assume most, if not all, Cox California) allows Both Plus Pak Trio as a Stand-Alone DVR and also just the Cisco HD-STB w/ Trio as a Stand -Alone option. So It would make sense it would eventually roll-out in most markets. Both Trio Stand-Alone options still require a professional install I believe partailly due to the fact that the Trio IPG uses DSG (DOCSIS Set top Gateway) to communicate with the headend rather than the legacy OOB method used by Motorola equipment.

And Effective November 7th, Cox San Diego will no longer charge the extra $5/mo for the Trio Stand-alone option, just the Whole Home DVR set-up will have to pay the additional $5/mo ($10/mo in some markets AZ for one) again hopefully this goes out to all markets soon.

wonder if more companies will add picture in picture ?

I'm planning on turning in my DCT3416 for the DCX3400 when I can get my wife to watch the shows she has on there. In the meantime though my box has started beeping occasionally. It will beep once, twice sometimes three times within say 3 minutes and then not beep again for hours. I've searched around and not found a definitive answer on this and was wondering if anyone from Cox has heard or this or know what may be the cause. I've read that it could be anything from overheating to the hard drive failing. I just picked up this box 2 months ago (and I know that doesn't mean that it's brand new) when my old box had DHCP errors.
Cox should just buy a mess of Ceton Q 6 Tuner boxes.. lol

the Motorola x41x (34xx 64xx etc) DVRs have PIP in the software, but it's not enabled by Cox.
