Not 100% sure but I think it is the existing client. I will check.

Cox Communications raises rates

Cox Communications Inc. raised its cable rates this month, including an increase of 21.6 percent for the monthly rental of a digital TV receiver.

The monthly cost for Cox’s basic digital service, known as Advanced TV, actually dropped from $65.99 to $63.29. However, the rental of the digital receiver required to receive that service climbed from $6.99 to $8.50 per month. For a high-definition digital receiver, the price rose from $7.99 to $8.50.

Enhanced digital service levels, with more channels and features, also grew more expensive, with Advanced TV Premier going from $78.49 to $83.99.

All of Cox’s digital specialty packages jumped in price, in some cases doubling or more: The Variety Pak went from $5 to $10, while the Latino Pak went from $4 to $9.

Cox also increased most of its Internet service charges by $3 to $5, depending on the access speed. The cost of the fastest Ultimate Internet service dropped from $109.99 to $99.99.

Customers should have received notice of the changes in the previous month’s bill.

Had a bit of a medical vacation so some of this has occurred over the last couple of months and I’m just slow updating:

After the first tech came out to fix my cable card/tuning adapter, all that was done was to change from the diagram shown parallel setup to a series pass-thru one that boosted the signal just enough for the card to stay locked. I mentioned at the time that the signal still seemed on the weak side, but off she went.

Then on the next bill I receive a tech support charge. So I called up and asked exactly why I was charged since either my protection plan should have covered it, or even if I didn’t have it the fact it was a problem with their equipment should have resulted in a no charge visit. Billing said that would clear it but when I got the next bill it was documented as a customer convenience (-)charge instead of an annotation that it was incorrectly billed.

I then called for a tech as I was still having a problem with the tuner adapter dropping out causing me to lose most channels within a day of the adapter last being power cycled. This tech came out and change the splitter in the junction box (said something about it having a 1-7 when all I needed was a 1-4) and he removed the moca adapter from the tuner (said it wasn’t needed and cox was just wasting money including them as default in the kit self help boxes). Signal now stays above 90% so that’s good, but I still have the same issue of the TA dropping out and taking 2/3 of my channels with it.

Debating on whether to call for yet another tech or just swap the TA, although I believe I’d still need to call in for some account/network config with just a new TA so may as well call the tech and have him take care of it.

Not sure what to tell you on this one. If you have any charge issues let me know though.

Two local stations want more money from Cox. I hope Cox doesn't pay.
Technically it's 3 channels. The Richmond CBS is part of the retrans negotiation as well. We are getting hammered by people thinking we are dropping the channel. Though we have said that if we don't pay them their requested increase.

Cox will pay more than it wants to... Local TV LLC will get less than what they want. We ALL have seen the rerun before...

It doesn't matter to me, I watch them over the air because the picture quality is better. I record them with my TiVo in the living room and my Channel Master antenna DVR in the bedroom.

Haven't used the host much other than weekends last couple of months. Have noticed that when I do over the last couple of weekends I've had to hard cycle it as otherwise it was dropping signal every couple of seconds.

Spent a good amount of time last week watching the NFL channel, quality on that channel was real bad much of the time.

Also can anyone confirm that DOCSIS 3 modems now work with the home dvr system? After my original install the tech had to downgrade me to a 2 and I was told they weren't compatible.
It should work. How long ago did this modem issue happen?

I got the home system a month or so after they opened it up via the list you could call and get your name put on. Within a few weeks of that I noticed the internet signal dropping out momentarily on a near constant basis.

DM me your acct number or address. I want my team to look into the issues you are seeing. Has anyone noticed the 59 min bug showing up again?

My brother had a problem with his Motorola DVR. Cox switched it out with a Cisco unit that uses different software from Passport that he says is not as intuitive or user friendly. Is Cox moving away from Passport now?

Yep. It sounds like he got a trio box. It might take him some getting used to but it is a much better box.

He's not familiar with it. Neither was I. After a week, I loved it. I'll never go back to Passport. Can hardly wait to see what TRIO 2 brings.

Is trio the name of the software? Will Passport be around as long as the Motorola box or will I wake up one morning with a new software flash?

Not on the Moto. The trio is much better than the Rovi guide though. here is a video about the guide.

My brother complained about a certain action he regularly did with a single button push with Passport that he now had to navigate through two or three menus to do. Not entirely sure the details. If he wanted to stick with Passport would Cox trade his Cisco back for a Moto or are they just phasing them out now?

Dunno about the switch back to Motorola. It's up to the local office. I bet his trouble with TRIO is just a case of unfamiliarity. Without the details, I would be guessing.

He is somewhat of a sports freak. He'll stop a recorded program to check the score of a ball game. With Passport you could hit the DVR List and return to the recording where you left off. I guess with Trio you have to arrow through several menus to get back. I have to say I personally will miss Passport. It was a very well thought out system that did virtually everything I wanted with no frustration. Can't say that about many software systems.

Several of us mentioned similar things when getting trio boxes. For all the good about trio, there are also notable bad. I think were the primary issue lies is that the "bad" is mostly noticed around the UI elements, so they feel a bigger detraction to the user.

With Trio, it's DVR LIST-> [choose program] -> resume. Can't get much easier than that. Passport has less clicks? Which one did they leave out? Are his recordings grouped or ungrouped? If they are grouped, an extra step is involved. Trio gives you that choice.

I, too, had similar gripes with Trio. But that was because I was so used to Passport. A few weeks actually using and learning Trio made most of those gripes disappear. We'll see if the upcoming TRIO 2 upgrade eliminates the rest (like the CC remote button and the "ZOOM" remote control button usage.)

Don't forget: Passport is an old, mature product with numerous upgrades under its belt. Comparatively, TRIO is just a baby.

After the "upgrade" Wednesday morning, my moto DVR no longer hides unwanted channels. The skipped channel function no longer works. Anyone else experiencing this?

Same here....Also, when you hit the "guide" button twice to see all the listings for a particular show, the screen is now blank and you have to type in the name of the show you are looking for...What a pain!!!!!

I had my guide customized for what I watch and don't watch....Now all the channels are there....What gives, Cox???????

Just curious, did you loose your favorite channels or the setting in the guide to only display your favorite channels (or both)?

Didn't lose my favorites...I figured out how have my "skipped" channels from appearing on the guide. What I don't like at all is the "feature", or lack there of, that does not show a selected show's complete listings....If you press the guide twice and then select "Title Search" nothing appears except the alphabet. You now have to type the show's name to find the show then you have to click on that show to get the complete listing. Before this software update, you could select a show from the guide, hit the "guide" button twice and the entire show's listings would appear. I have already called tech support and voiced my displeasure. She told me she will pass it up to the software then engineering departments....If you don't like the new features, call Cox....The more that call, the more of a chance this will get corrected.
